Fullmetal Alchemist #14
Jan. 13th, 2004 09:05 pmWhile I didn't think this would be possible, I've watched enough Naruto for one night. Since (as usual) TV has nothing on, I watched the new Fullmetal Alchemist ep. It's so easy to remember why this was my favorite before I stumbled upon Naruto!
I love love love the "religion kills people while claiming to be protecting" theme, as well as the "religion will suppress science whenever it can" message.
Mr. Scar-Faced Religious Guy, "I say that god doesn't like you, so you die now!"
How often do we (sadly) hear that in real life?
Of course there's the other side as well: The alchemists, especially the military ones, are hardly innocent and pure little lambs frolicking in the sun-warmed pasture. Again, very realistic.
Anyway, back to the ep: The new opening theme is much better (I hated the original one). I think I need to re-watch the early eps; I don't get what the sin-people are about. I take it they're not really human? If they really, really are the physical form of the sins themselves, well... hm. If that's the case, then I wonder what that says about that fellow who keeps killing for god.
Has anyone read the FMA manga? One translation group is calling the military alchemists 'Nazis' and the leader is the 'Fuhrer', and the other just calls them 'military' and 'commander'. And is the character the "Full Metal Alchemist", yet the show is "Fullmetal Alchemist"? Silly Japanese people, not writing their anime in English so we can know these things! ;)
Boy, my mind sure is wandering. I suppose it's not that I've really had enough anime for one night, I guess I'm too tired to focus on things. Hopefully I'll sleep better tonight (I won't be able to sleep much worse...).

Date: 2004-01-13 09:30 pm (UTC)I have a manga, but it doesn't say that in it at all!
Nor does the Fanbook.
AND there is no Japanese word for Fuhrer that I know of, so I'd suspect that it would be romanized "Fyuureru" or something of the sort (i'm not 100% sure on the german pronounciation)

Date: 2004-01-27 07:12 am (UTC)The Japanese title means like "full body metal", so I'm not surprised they named it what they did. The title gets ungangly. But yeah! I love naruto too..and actually Naruto is my second favorite anime (Dragon Ball Z is the first). I was really irritated when I saw them write "furher" or however you spell that...like why do the germans always get blamed and are made out to be the bad guy all the time? --;; *is studying propoganda in school*
I actually liked the first opening theme better than the second one...I dunno, the second one seems ..I don't know. I like the second closing theme, and I actually saw Yellow Generation perform it when they did a panel at an anime convention in Tokyo! (I'm an exchange student in Japan right now...from Boston, USA)
but yeah...so many people like this anime now...do you know if it's big in the states?
wait..*looks at your info* do you own hot-hot-hot-catlove.com? I was just there. hahaha :) oh well, my name's Roxanne. nice to meet you.

Date: 2004-01-27 08:12 am (UTC)Naruto is my current favorite anime, followed closely by Prince of Tennis. I haven't tried any of the Dragonballs yet, but they're on my list!

FMA? I think so. Each week there seem to be more and more folks downloading the eps the second they're offered!
Well, welcome to my LJ! I skimmed yours before running off to work this morning and friended you. Can't wait to read more about being in Japan! :)
