In order of the subject line:

While I was in college, I never for one day considered graduate school. It's not that I didn't like being in school, it's just that I didn't know what I wanted to do, so I didn't need to plan for anything like it. Well now that I'm sort of vaguely pondering it, I wish I had planned for it back then. You need a minimum of a 3.0 GPA for your last 60 credit hours to get into the local state university, and while I haven't looked at my transcript in probably seven or eight years, I doubt I reached that minimum (I slacked off a lot, never studied. While I never failed anything, I really didn't put more than the minimum effort into things. I made the Dean's List twice, but I had a couple of semesters that probably balanced me the other way).

Another "amusing" back to school thing: While looking at the local giant university's website, about half the links went to missing pages. 404s left and right. I couldn't find out one single detail about the fees and costs, since everything was 404'ed.

In looking elsewhere, I found details about salaries. How is it that someone with a master's or a doctorate could make less than lowly tech support me makes? That's insane.

But all this doesn't really count as even a bump in the road -- I'm doing nothing more than just poking around and pondering things right now, it's not like any of this is even a firm plan. I don't know if library foo is really the direction I want to go or not.

[livejournal.com profile] temps_mort is just like [livejournal.com profile] contrelamontre, except it's for anime fandoms. I don't write every week, but this time I did. You had a choice of how many elements to use, and that number determined how many minutes you got. I went with only one (in addition to it being Valentine's Day), so I only got 15 minutes.

Title: Lessons Learned
Fandom: Naruto
Pairing/Characters(for gen): Kiba, Shikamaru (gen)
Rating: G
Summary: Valentine's Day at the ninja academy.
Notes: This takes place before the anime starts. The characters are all young kids, around 6-7 years of age.

Valentine's day was half way over, and the ninja academy's students were outside eating lunch. The girls formed small groups, talking about (or more often giggling over) the boys they liked. For their part, the boys tried to ignore the girls.

One boy went unnoticed. Kiba, with his puppy Akamaru tucked into his coat, was sneaking back into the classroom. Was it a love of learning that drew him back indoors? Did he leave a beloved writing instrument behind? Nope.

Kiba laughed quietly as he eased the door shut behind himself, then started down the first row of desks. Now and then he glanced over his shoulder, but no one entered to interrupt his task.

Sometime later, the class returned to the room and found Kiba still within it. The boy was curled up under his desk, surrounded by crumpled chocolate wrappers and small (empty) heart-shaped boxes. He groaned as he held his belly. Akamaru whined in concern.

Some students laughed, some made angry noises, but it was only Shikamaru who spoke.

"Guess it's true. Chocolate really isn't good for dogs..."
