Walking in a winter wonderland!
Feb. 12th, 2004 09:46 amBrrr, it was cold out this morning! We had a clear sky overnight, which means we went down to near freezing. I went walking before work instead of after, so I had ample time to experience the chill. :)
I needed to mail one of those large (priority) envelopes, so I had to take it to one of those big mailboxes on the street instead of leaving it in my personal mailbox, and since there's one on the route that I walk, I figured why not do my walk early? Well let me tell you, walking in the morning is even better than walking in the evening! The cold was actually rather nice (other than it made my fingers tingle), and it was so quiet! The street I live on is quiet anytime, but in the morning it was nearly silent. Just me and the birds, which was really nice.
Plus, once I got into work, I was still feeling great! This was even after me lengthening my walk by about twice the distance I usually increase it by. *purrr* I feel like I want to go out and do more at lunchtime and then again after work, but if I push too much then I'll hurt myself and have to stop.
Such an odd thing this is. (Odd but good!)
Am I babbling about walking too much? Heh, sorry to anyone who's tired of reading about it! :)

Date: 2004-02-12 10:23 am (UTC)Of course not! It's great to read about people getting pleasure out of something that's healthy. It's really true that "the more you do, the more you want to do". I always try to keep this in mind when I cycle back into my running mode, but I almost always get too into it and end up getting over-enthusiastic and doing too much too soon. It's only been 22 years, though. Maybe I'll catch a clue one of these days.
It's great walking in the cold, isn't it? I seldom get a chance in the early morning anymore (spouse leaves for work at 5:30am and it's just inhuman to get up an hour before that), but sometimes I go at night and it's so quiet and chilly and lovely. It takes my butt a good hour to thaw out afterwards, though. Damn non-insulated running tights!

Date: 2004-02-12 10:34 am (UTC)I'm glad you posted this. I was planning on "cheating" (imagine, using the word "cheating" for getting *more* exercise!) and walking again tonight after work, but I'm going to make myself not. I want to be able to keep walking for a long time, and hurting myself will not make that happen.

Totally agreed there. If I get insane enough to wake up at 4:30 to go walking, then someone should stop by and hit me over the head with something hard. :)
*giggles over your cold butt* Mental images! Hee.
