I promised myself I wouldn't cry... (A)
Mar. 9th, 2004 08:21 pmI watched the last four eps of Haibane Renmei tonight. I try to never ever cry over stuff, because it makes my contacts hurt for days after (don't ask me why), but I couldn't help it with the end of this series. The two lessons one of the main characters learned hit so totally close to home, it hurt. *sniff* I put a longer review up yesterday, but if this post is enough of a selling point, just go here to download it with BT.
I loved how even at the end you had anything but all the answers. There was so much room to see everything in a variety of ways! Seriously, do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this series.
...man, how can anyone concentrate with AIM? I hate the darned thing when I have one window open, but tonight there are two. How does anyone get anything done when they keep blinking? Grrr. Non-anime stuff will get posted tomorrow.

Date: 2004-03-12 11:50 am (UTC)The ending really hit me hard (probably because I see so much of it in myself as well, but also because I came to care about these characters, even in such a short time) and it's one of the few series where you're right, that I don't care that we didn't get all the answers. I never really noticed that I didn't mind until you pointed it out, but I kind of like it that way for some reason.

If you ever figure that out, let me know, because it drives me to distraction most of the time, hence, why I rarely get anything done. ~_~

Everything about the series was done so darned right. How did they make us care about these characters so darned fast? And how did they make their world so ... so whole and yet left with mysteries? It's just an amazing thing.

Date: 2004-03-12 12:14 pm (UTC)I originally watched the series over a period of a couple episodes a night, very close together, so I missed a lot of stuff the first time around and would love to go back and rewatch the whole thing. (It's only 13 episodes, you'd think it wouldn't be that difficult.) But I can either find the time for that or I can find the time to watch episodes of Maria-sama ga Miteru or the rest of Gungrave or Paranoia Agent or Mezzo DSA (which I should hate, but the first two episodes were such batshit fun) or... well, yes. You get the idea.
I'm also tempted to go through the series and pick up as many of the background details as I could (because there are so many neat little details they put it--the way they made their halos, the rules they lived by, etc.), but I worry that that would take away from the magic.
Plus, I also worry that I'd cry like a little girl at the end again. >_> (The thing with the lemon pie/cake at the end made me want to cry so much. T___T)

*laughs* That sounds just like me. And the cake, yeah! She set it on his halo and asked him what color it was... and gah, I lost it right there. Yellow! Arg, *sniff*.
Such a great series! :)
