Despite me saying last night that I wasn't going to fight alone from now on, I spent most of the day doing that. (I hit level 10! Woo! But man, each level requires more and more XP to reach, it's slow going!)
Even though I didn't have my 'I'm looking for a party!' flag set, someone named Stickysix (I think that's right) asked me to join one. I agreed. (She was level 9 as well, and I believe a monk? Some fighter-sort.) I had to do one thing before we could leave, so she looked for other people while I did that. We picked up a ninja (level 8, but an experienced player -- the only one of our party-to-be who could claim that). After I returned, we got three other folks. One was a Galka (some big beastman-sort of race) fighter, and we had an Elvaan something-or-other, and another human. (All level 9.) I cast Protect on everyone, and we were off! Right off the bat, the last human got lost and never re-joined the party. When we reached the Orc Camp, we learned that the Galka hadn't done the things required to go on the quest, so he couldn't go in. (This was a big problem, as he was the one who was supposed to pull the monsters' attacks to him.) So it was just Stickysix, the experienced chick/ninja, the elf, and myself. Luckily the battles were easy, and I very much enjoyed hiding behind everyone and healing them as needed. Alas, the battles were too easy and we all only got about 9 XP! Blech! But in the end it was worth it: Stickysix gave me a Protectra (Protect on the whole party) spell scroll! At first I thought one of the orcs dropped it, but she said it costs her 300 gil! I didn't get any of the orc-loot (I don't believe anyone did besides Stickysix), but hey, I was happy to have the spell! Stickysix has a WHM whenever she needs it. (I wish I could remember the experienced chick's name, because she was both nice and cool. It was one of those names with too many vowels: Sanauaneda or something like that.
One other new thing: While I hate hate hate asking unknown people for help (there are so many new people who do it so poorly/rudely, I very much try not to come off like them), I asked someone where to buy bait. I did it as nicely/politely as I could: "Hi! If you have a moment, can you tell me where you bought your bait? I encountered an NPC who was selling it, but I haven't been able to remember where he is." The first fisher I asked ignored me, but the second had to go buy more himself so took me there! Yay! So with bait in hand, I went fishing: My first cast was a winner! A tri-colored carp! Then the very next cast: My rod broke! Waaah! My nice one that
loneguardian got me! *sniff* Oh well, so I went to buy a new one (a different one, because that one was an expensive kind). First cast: Another fish! (A moat carp, I think.) Then next cast... broken rod again! WAAH! Bah! Fishing is going to be expensive... (I have the two broken rods up for sale, but there are tons of others as well.) Tomorrow I have to print up the fishing FAQ; maybe I'm using the wrong poles in the wrong places...
This egg "quest" thing is ... well, not totally fun. I got THI and turned them in for my two ride tickets, but I only have three of the last eight that I need for the super egg thing. I don't know if I can stand the spam long enough to get the rest of them...
The sun draws higher in the sky behind the church... The tall building just left of center is the church.
Nighttime in the industrial area. Nighttime pictures tend to be dark, but I was trying to capture how pretty it was with the dark clouds in front of the starry sky.
Dancing Elven Queen! Okay, she was only a princess... but I think she has a crush on me!
