It's amazing that playing a game can wear you out.
loneguardian invited me to form a group with herself and her friend Draque (don't know if he has a LJ name or not). Once we got to the tough area, we got three more folks to join up. (Six is the party size limit.) While I was unsure about how working with strangers would go, it went really well! We worked with that first party a long while (couple hours?), then the non-me white mage had to exit, so we picked up a new one. As the hours rolled on, we got new people as others had to go (usually white mages, heh!), but for all the people we dealt with, most of them were great! Not just nice, but clueful and did their jobs well. (Usually I hear bad stories about partying with strangers.) We had only two bad folks in the group, one who whined endlessly and the other a white mage who was, um, a little bossy. The bossy WHM left (without a word) after only a fight or two, so we'll just ignore him.
I started the morning at 13 (halfway to 14) and ended the partying at 15 (just a tiny bit to 16). Woo! Very nice! Having two white mages just rocked. One (the non-me one, whoever it was at the time) kept healing the four fighters, and I "attacked" the monsters (Paralyze, Slow, and Dia -- reduces defense). Having two WHMs kept me sane! I could watch the log window and actually see when effects wore off so I could recast them! And once I knew the WHM-of-the-hour was trustworthy, I could keep just a little eye on the HPs! Very, very nice. I still watched nearly none of the battle animation (so I don't know what hit me, the few times I got hit), but still, it was cool. :)
Most of the camps (places to wait while the "puller" went out and made a monster mad so it'd chase him back to us) had a nice ledge for us mages to stand on, so we'd stay out of the way of things. Almost no one died the whole time, except our poor puller who died at least twice! (Oh, and maybe someone else who disconnected without warning.)
But man, after seven-something hours of leveling, I'm so braindead! It was fun, and getting so much XP rocked, but it was oddly tiring. Oh, and no screenshots -- we were in places I've shown you all already, and I was really too busy to make them. At one point I was going to ask everyone to pose together for one, but I figured that'd make me look like even more of a geek than I am. :)
Edit: Why the heck does the LJ spellchecker not accept the word 'mage'?

Date: 2004-04-23 08:11 am (UTC)Random educational note: If you didn't know what kinna damage boosts those do, my regular hit is maybe 4-5 damage, Berserk knocks it up to 9-10 or so, and adding Mithkabobs punched it up to a grand total of 13-15 a hit. Plus if I have time to stack about 6 Boosts before a fight, my first hit is in the 25-30 range. :3 So you can see just by adding a couple skills to a regular attack how much of a difference it can make. It's really good to have people in the party who know how to use all their job's abilities (like a WHM's Divine Seal + Curaga is like a mini-Benediction) -and- use food. Food is expensive sometimes, but a total lifesaver.
