Friday: Remember Ronald Reagan Day!
Jun. 9th, 2004 04:43 pmWhile his corpse is being carted from one location to another for thousands and thousands of people to see, we're supposed to spend Friday remembering him. (Doesn't anyone else find that morbid as hell? Why do you need his corpse to remember him? He was sick for a decade and old as heck, just let him be buried instead of treated like the Stanley Cup.) The post office and other official businesses will be closed, so that those poor federal employees can spend the day mourning his passing. Or sleeping in. One of the two.
I know it's only Wednesday, but we can start remembering the good times now, can't we? So let's ponder this one:
His administration proposed to classify ketchup as a vegetable, as a way of further reducing federally subsidized spending on school lunches. (Link)
So as you sit back and remember our most favorite dead president, don't forget to get your five servings of ketchup for the day!

Date: 2004-06-09 04:49 pm (UTC)I'll admit that the ketchup thing was a little bizarre, but he is one of the main reasons that the Cold War is where it is. The life that we all enjoy today is markedly different from the reality of twenty years ago, when kids like me actually cried at night because we thought the Russians were going to get us.
Rest in Peace, Ronnie.

Personally, I wouldn't call the ketchup thing "a little bizarre", I'd say it indicates his stance on a number of things like that. YMMV. :)
