While his corpse is being carted from one location to another for thousands and thousands of people to see, we're supposed to spend Friday remembering him. (Doesn't anyone else find that morbid as hell? Why do you need his corpse to remember him? He was sick for a decade and old as heck, just let him be buried instead of treated like the Stanley Cup.) The post office and other official businesses will be closed, so that those poor federal employees can spend the day mourning his passing. Or sleeping in. One of the two.

I know it's only Wednesday, but we can start remembering the good times now, can't we? So let's ponder this one:

His administration proposed to classify ketchup as a vegetable, as a way of further reducing federally subsidized spending on school lunches. (Link)

So as you sit back and remember our most favorite dead president, don't forget to get your five servings of ketchup for the day!

I love Ronald Regan. I lived most of my childhood years under this remarkable man, and can't wait to watch the funeral. It's the first state funeral in 31 years, and the pageantry is fascinating, if not a little morbid, admittedly.

I'll admit that the ketchup thing was a little bizarre, but he is one of the main reasons that the Cold War is where it is. The life that we all enjoy today is markedly different from the reality of twenty years ago, when kids like me actually cried at night because we thought the Russians were going to get us.

Rest in Peace, Ronnie.

I was rather shocked when I heard of his death...I'd figured the Illuminat--err, Republican Party had given him life beyond death. It's still possible, of course. Reagan's lich could still be alive and orchestrating, while some hobo's corpse molders in his grave.

Boohoohoo.

There, I'm done. Now can I have Friday off, too?

The day Reagan died, the local station here showed the Simpson ep where the Republican Party was renaming everything to 'The Reagan (thing)'. I thought something along those same lines.

If every dead president would get this same handling, I would have less of an issue with it. But when Clinton dies, what do you think will happen? Do you think federal buildings will close?

(...left work, slept, returned to work... Lost train of thought? The darned thing is a dozen stations away by now!)

Personally, I wouldn't call the ketchup thing "a little bizarre", I'd say it indicates his stance on a number of things like that. YMMV. :)

Only federal employees, not people like me who work for private companies. Bah! I could have used the day off.
