thistlechaserI took this "Belief-o-matic" test before, probably two years ago. Funny how I've changed in that relatively short time.
I was actually "anti-god" back then (not a satanist! Just believed that all and every religion did more harm than good, that people who believed in a god were bad/stupid/whatever, etc.). I've loosened up a lot. I still don't believe there is any god, but I believe in some form of karma (though I think of it more as that witchcraft rule: If you cast a spell to harm you, it'll return three times as strong at you); people who do bad things eventually get bad things done back to them, or people who think/feel bad things suffer because those negative feelings actually hurt them, even if they don't know it.
I don't know if that's really true or not, but it feels right... and probably for the same reasons that religion feels right to people who believe in that. There's comfort in thinking there's a balance out there, that if Joe Blow rapes and murders a grandmother that he'll get what's coming to him. And as a bonus, it keeps me acting a little better, too. I know worrying about the balance isn't the /best/ reason for acting like a good human, but... well, the ends justify the means. The good still gets done, even if it's because part of me is trying to make up for bad things I've done in the past, there's still good being done.
