Everyone loves a parade! (FFXI)
Jul. 11th, 2004 04:02 pmEdit, non-FFXI: Holy cow! I don't usually check my email over the weekend, but man! Looks like everyone commented on my last "prostitution" post. Gah! I'll try to work through all the replies before going back onto FFXI, but there are so many and the answers will likely be so involved that I'll need to deal with them tomorrow. Sorry! (I need to better time the posting of such things! :) )

Screenshots from the LS party, plus general FFXI stuff.
The CurseTheYagudo group had an event Friday night! A parade! While it wasn't very parade-like, it was still very fun! (Other than the three "crowd" screenshots, all the image sizes are small to reasonable. The crowd ones are not reduced at all, since there's lots in them to see in them.)
Before the event started, we played "/follow the NPC!", which had sort of a parade-like result:
First just a few of us were /following the little guy, then:
More and more people joined the line! It was very amusing; others kept stopping to peer at us!
Even in the early stages, the crowd seemed really big to me! Everyone was doing magic, the bards were singing songs, and generally having fun and putting on quite a show!
As the sun set, the crowd got larger and larger! It was suggested that people come in costume, but I wasn't able to. I had one, but it was for a non-white mage job, and since we were going out to kill things after the parade, I needed to be my highest job. Alas!
Eventually there were so many people that I couldn't get all of the crowd into one screenshot! We had a ton of parties formed from all the individual members. I lost count of how many! (So cool! So cool!)
As with any good party, food was served! Every single person who attended was given a meat mithkabob, and we all ate them at once! Ooh, fire! (Non-players: When you eat food, you see the element of whatever crystal was used to make that item.) Even us mages ate them. Hee!
As well as the free food, we were all given a bunch of fireworks! (This screenshot is nearly full sized, as it's so darned pretty!) There were Santas made out of fireworks, a bunch of wings, and tons of sparkles! (I wasn't able to get a good shot of the Santas, sorry!.)
Once the food and fireworks were finished, we headed out to kill things! That's just the very tail end of the mob of Yagudo Cursers -- because I kept trying to get screenshots, I kept falling behind!
Like a plague of Yagudo-killing locusts, we swept through zones, killing every one of the birdmen. They were dead before they even fell -- there were so many of us, and they were so out-leveled, they didn't know what hit them!
The bodies were everywhere. We killed them all! There were so many of us, as soon as a new one spawned, it was killed! Heehee.

A few mon-parade night screenshots:
I think Ninja armor is my new favorite armor! Mmmm. My god, that's some sexy clothing! I don't like his hair, but I'll forgive him that.
A wish for wings that worked. I saved one of my special fireworks from the event. I knew it had this wings-effect, and I wanted to be able to take a good screenshot of it. They were so pretty! It'd be wonderful if they lasted longer than a couple seconds!
I do NOT want to think about this name paired with that race. Please, please let the image be erased from my brain once I delete the image from my harddrive. Gah!
Want to see what a 100,000g bed looks like? Damn, that thing was ugly! Orange! It clashed with everything in my house! I'm glad I can now sell it!

I made a lot of progress in some things (such as BST -- three levels!), and very little in others (soloing WHM, what was I smoking?).
As I'm about 1K XP behind the static party-to-be, I thought I'd do what the other slightly-behind person did: Solo the XP I needed. With my best armor, weapon, and food, white mage me set out to the Dunes. Everything there was checking as either EP or "too weak to be worthwhile", but I figured EPs would be a start. Ha ha ha ha ha! While I never came close to dying, one 12 XP kill took me 200 MP (of the 250 I have) as well as half of my HP. That meant many minutes sitting and resting between each fight. Between each 12 XP fight. (Non-players: 12 XP is the lowest amount you can get. Next thing down is zero.) After four kills, 100 XP, and about a half-hour, I laughed at myself, gave up, and went back home. I wasn't so annoyed at the time lost as I was the money: Two wasted teleportations! (Money is tight right now, or at least cash-money is. I have lots of items worth a lot, but they need to sell before I can be un-poor.)
Beastmaster is as different from white mage as night is from day. Countless (literally countless) kills up to 36 XP with zero need for sitting (or at least sitting with no XP coming in). Fighting without pause, endless XP coming in. The few times I did need to sit and heal, I sent one monster after another and let them kill each other off -- XP while healing! In a 3-4 hour session, I had to sit without getting XP only two or three times. Amazing, just amazing.
I haven't successfully moved into La Theine for leveling yet: I can't see the logic of risking death to get 36-50 XP, then needing to sit with no XP coming, when I could get a continual stream of 25-36 kills in East Ron. Of the four times I've tried moving to there, twice I had to use an Instant Warp scroll to escape mid-fight (landing back home with HP in the teens), once I turned tail and ran mid-fight (zoning with HP in the single digits), and once I was killed. Not a great record...
So far I've been successful in my attempt to get one new level in Beastmaster per day, but I think that will end with today. It me just over three hours to move from 12 to 13, and it's only going to get longer. On weeknights, I don't know if I'll want to put that many hours into leveling. (Even though it's so amazingly easy! And no risk of death (in the right areas)! It's so easy that I can chatter away during battles and not worry at all!)
