Odd, isn't it?
Aug. 2nd, 2004 10:25 pmWoo, I'm posting at night! It's odd (and nice!) to be able to do things like check email and read LJ and such! Darned FFXI demands uninterrupted full screen, which makes me feel like I don't have a computer at all anymore.
My FFXI-evening started with me losing more than 100,000 gil. (Mind you, I had "only" 150,000 when I logged off last night.) The guild turn-in was rabbit mantles (which for the first time in days I could actually make), but because they're so "cheap" the guild wanted 44 of them! To only give me 1,000 points! Each mantle needs 5 hides, a thread, and a crystal to make it, so buying all those stacks of hides got expensive.
The leather fun continued with an attempt to skill-up (which ironically was an attempt to cheer me up). One stack of the items I'd need to make one stack of skill-up items: 50,000. I bought enough for two stacks. So for that 100,000 what did I get? Out of 24 synth'ings, I had 22 failures. This was an item I had made plenty of times before! So for 100,000 gil I got .1 skill increase and two items to sell back to the NPC. Sigh.
So after helping out a couple of LS people with a couple of tasks, I logged off as quickly as I could.
After that, I switched to anime: I watched another PMK ep. Woo! Even though I saw the series once, I love it so much! I love the characters! Next: the latest Samurai Champloo ep (#8) finished downloading, so I had a gleeful time watching that. There's so much I love about that series! On top of an interesting storyline and great characters, the art style is so yummy! And the whole thing is funny as heck! I don't think I stopped laughing through the whole darned ep.
And so that brings us to now. I read my whole flist (tomorrow is going to be a bad work day, so I want to minimize the flist as much as possible before then), answered the ton of comment email (you chatty folks! :) ), and wrote this post!
Night, everyone! Be good! :)
Edit to add: I hate this damned game so much tonight. Since the latest update, every time I doubleclick on the POL icon, a Windows Installer window pops up and tries to install something. Over and over, with me clicking 'cancel'. After 20 or so times, it finally stops trying. Why would it need the darned CDs again, when nothing happened other than the update? (And like I even know where they are anymore?) And the viewer works fine once I get the stupid Installer window to go away. Sigh/grrrr.

Date: 2004-08-03 05:20 am (UTC)I didn't have any problems like that... also, I don't think it uses Windows installer. o.O;;
Hope your work day goes better than you expect it to.
:)
Date: 2004-08-03 05:22 am (UTC)But I enjoy your posts about it.
Also, let the installer do its thing already sweetie, fighting windows on that is always a losing battle in the long run.

*laughs* You're totally right. After fighting it all night I hunted down the CD this morning and let it install whatever the heck it wanted, and now it's working as it should be. Darned Windows!
Thanks!

Date: 2004-08-03 09:24 am (UTC)Then it happened to Neil later in the evening, after we had finished playing. I'm not sure what he did to stop it since I went to bed around that point.
I'm kind of worried that either a) something in the new patch broke the playonline installation somehow, or b) That there's some weird virus circulating.

Date: 2004-08-03 10:53 am (UTC)See, I'm having similar problems. It's not even letting me install it because it keeps coming up with this whole Wrong Volume thing, and I can't exit out of the Wrong Volume error. It just keeps coming up with another one every time I exit from it. It's maddening because I was hoping on playing it yesterday. *sighs*
If you find out a way of getting past that, and are actually able to play the damned game, please let me know.
I feel your pain. :P
