Tuesday!

Oops, I forgot to post yesterday, didn't I? I try to post once a day, otherwise I'll keep forgetting then go weeks without a post! Then weeks would become months and months years and then I'd just fall off the edge of the Earth!

Over the weekend I watched some anime. One ep of Whistle! and some FMA. I had forgotten how much I loved Whistle!. The art is very simple, but the storyline is so sweet! I wish I had time to rewatch the whole series, but I had to make due with just a couple eps. I watched both some subbed and some dubbed Fullmetal Alchemist. I started with the subbed because I was looking for a bit of music from it -- I didn't find the music, but I got sucked into that ep that was all about Mustang! :D Gods, I love that man. Then I caught up on the dubbed eps that Tivo had recorded. Sigh! I found that the voices were sort of... not making me twitch as much. I didn't like the English voices, but I no longer wanted to kick my TV till the pain stopped. (Other than Al's voice, which I love more than the Japanese version.)

RP! RP! RP! Eee! I got two scenes yesterday! Not even just one! One was serious/near deadly (but still OOCly oodles of fun!) and the other one was amusing/lighter. My character is a kinfolk (related to werewolves but with zero extra powers -- a normal human with a werewolf for an uncle), and he's not the most brave of guys, so he tends to freak out whenever the werewolf folks are around. For some odd reason, this amuses them muchly. :) They like to keep poor Jack around and make him twitch and tremble. Heehee. So after two days of harassment by the Garou (werewolves), Jack runs into a punk teen, but of course he assumes off the bat that it's another Garou here to make him pee his pants. But eventually they got things straightened out, which lead to a more casual and less panicked RP last night. :)

Denver's IC time is not 1:1 with RL time, which at first seemed odd to me. It's grown on me though, and now I think I like it. Yesterday was the Fourth of July!

Eee! Thistle! I *love* the pellet belts you made me! With them, I'm pulling mobs for my static one at a time. They complain that it's boring, but at least they're all alive. ^^

Soucon is on 4:1 time and I like it lots. It seems like it gives more room for character development and stuff, though it does cause problems if you can't get with someone you need to RP with for a while. Back on PokeMUSH, you could have a character for a year and a half...and they were only a year and a half older. There's only so far a person can reasonably grow and change in a year and a half. On SouCon, that same amount of RL time would age a character six years. A person is going to have the potential for a lot more change in that amount of time. It opens up whole new possibilities. I do think it's good that there are games with both, but I'm enjoying the faster-than-normal right now.

Yeah. I kind of miss not being able to look out my RL window or at my RL clock to see what IC time it is, but faster is fun as well.

I'm not sure I like the time passing/aging faster end of it so much (I'd rather have each day have a lot of big events instead of having a big event happen every couple of days), but it's fun getting to RP more holidays and stuff. Both have their good and bad points, I suppose!

GarouMUSH's 1:1 time is somewhat unusual - I'm pretty sure we were the first to do it, and I recall fighting pretty hard for it. It was one of my pet initiatives, back in the day.

There's some strong plusses from it. One is that you always know what day, and what time, it is. In a more visceral sense. It's easy to roleplay about Christmas Shopping right now, because it's the background noise in life. Other places, I have to type +time and realize, Hmm, it's May 13th. Um, what might I be doing? Planning a Memorial Day trip? Hey, is it near my character's birthday yet?

But, much bigger, it allowed us to be set more-or-less in the real world. Which allows us to talk about current events or the latest gadgets IC. The big downside of 4:1 or any accellerated time is that *poof* it's 2017. And yet, it's so very much not. Nobody on these games sits out with a set of technological and social changes that are happening. The context of the game is lost, and it's like you're in an island outside of time and space.

(There are advantages, as noted. In a game not set in the real world, like the Pern games, it makes plenty of sense, to allow more rapid character development. Also, there's always a scheduling problem with the 1:1 game: why do we never see Adlebert at night? It's because he lives in Scotland in RL, not because he has a secret alter ego. So, that's a bummer.)

Can't say I know about GarouMUSH much, but I do know how fun playing Kinfolk is. I played on Denver at one point before I got terribly jaded by its idiocy.

Denver isn't anything like as insane as it was a couple of years back. The place has completely turned around and gone good.

Agreed on all that (and I'm glad you drove for the 1:1 on Garou!). It's a lot easier to feel connected to my character in a 1:1 game -- I could be sitting here at work and knowing my character is doing the exact same thing! Or sleeping in on a weekend and knowing no RP-loss was going on because my character is a slacker who sleeps in whenever he can.

Before a big staff change and theme adjustment Denver had vampires running around. In that case, I'd be all for the faster time. (Though I'd rather not play a vampire myself...)

Exactly. It's 2012 by us, but people are still using Palm Pilots and such. Part of me snickers, but most of me tries to ignore it. I sort of wish that every 5-10 IC years they "reset" the year back to the current (or earlier) RL one, but that would cause issues as well.
