I have the brain of a hyperactive five year old (Think I should give it back?)

Sometimes it's so hard to live with myself. I've gotten five hours or less of sleep every night this week. I am tired. I am very very tired. Yet I snap wide awake way before my alarm goes off.

Two mornings ago I was awake and ready to get up 20 minutes before it went off. Yesterday morning it was 30 minutes. This morning it was 40 minutes early. 20/30/40 minutes might not seem like much of a loss, but when you're only getting five hours it makes a big difference!

The second I even drift towards lighter sleep, my brain snaps online. "WAKE UP! TIME TO WAKE UP! You have TWO! Not one, but TWO projects you have to do at work! And all the online stuff you have to do! And you've not checked your email in TWELVE HOURS! WAKE UP! And think of all the online stuff you never have time for! If you weren't sleeping you could do it now! WAKE UP! WAKE UP! WAKE UP! *bounce*bounce*bounce*"

I wish I could sedate my brain, or perhaps just beat it with something heavy.

The other example of this is FFXI-related. In real life, I don't have any problems with money. I never do the 'I know I have credit card bills, but I really want X so I'll get it!'. I'm responsible. I make plans and stick to them. So why the heck can't I do that in-game?

My plan was a good one: Buy the thick HQ pieces first (about a million each), then deal with getting the HQ haub (14-15 million). But... *bounce*bounce*bounce* There was one at the AH last night! And I almost never see them listed! And I wanted it! Real bad! So after a second moment of thought, I bid every single gil I had. Luckily I didn't get it, because the idea of having 0 gil scares me. But boy, did I want it so badly... And the thing is, I can't kid myself. I'd bid for it again before I get the thick stuff. I want it. I just want it so much! It's not reasonable, it's not logical, I just do.

Seeing you makes me glad I'm broke in-game. X3 I can't fathom getting most of the HQ stuff, because for the most part, there really is no big difference for me to get it. For RDM, you can always find something in another spot to switch out things. For MNK, there are so few things that we get as it /is/, and very little of the HQ versions of it are worth it. The things that are worth it are drops, and well, I'd like to think I've done well so far without them. :3

Honestly, I think you have the point of it. For the most part, the HQs won't make much of a difference. Maybe adding a couple pieces will make me hit harder, but I don't think I need all the pieces I want... but I still want them. It sort of bugs me that it makes no sense to want them all, but mostly the wanting blocks out all the other thoughts/feelings around it. :P

and well, I'd like to think I've done well so far without them. :3

And there's nothing wrong with wanting them, as long as you /know/ that they aren't going to add that much more than the NQ. For some reason, the general idea of NQ vs HQ is that the HQ will add super amounts of things that the NQ don't have. There /are/ some cases of that, granted (what comes to mind for me are the HQ elemental staves, especially for SMNs), but that is more of the exception than the rule.

That said, how you spend your gil is really your business. :3 If you can make enough to get all the HQ pieces, feel free. X3 I'll just sit in my corner ot slowly work at the few things that I'd really like to get my hands on. :3

Yeah. I'm not expecting a super-duper change. I won't cry if I don't kill an IT++ mob in one swing (ha ha), but a small change (and knowing I have both the item and that small change) is enough.

At least I know that you'll only part with it when you're able to wear your Hauberk (+1). That gives me plenty of time. *ducks*

Yeah, I would say go for the Hauberk first. The Hauberk +1 will probably go up in price, but Thick pieces +1 ... none of the ingredients are particularly rare.
