I hate it when "nice guys finish last" applies. I have a perfect little area in a zone that I farm in. In that spot, I can fill my bag to 60 in just over an hour and be done with farming for the night. Last night, for the first time ever, a BST was XPing in "my" spot, using the exact mobs that I wanted to farm. I could have screwed him over, I could have killed the mobs as fast as they popped, but no, I went elsewhere in the zone. Three hours later my bag was still only halfway full, so I went back to check my spot. Darned BST was still there. So I went and farmed elsewhere in the zone. Two more hours later and I was at 50/60, so I went to check my spot. &$*(@&!)($ BST was still there. So because I was nice, my farming took 5+ hours instead of just over 1.

Yeah, yeah, "But a BST XPing is more important than someone farming!", but know what? My time is worth something, too. I gave up most of my evening so that BST could XP. But hey, at least I was "nice".

*grump*

Four hours of sleep last night. Four and a half the night before. Both nights jam-packed with nightmares (what the hell is up with that?). It's going to be one of those weeks.

After farming, I did some crafting. On a new moon, doing synths 60-66 levels below me, I HQed once. Failed twice. Out of 15 synths. I hate it when people are paranoid, but it's times like this that I really, really think the game is against me. I should HQ the hell out of things I'm 60+ levels over cap on, not fail it more than I HQ it. And this is not a one time thing, results like this happen a lot. I bet there's some sort of "painfulcrafting:yes" thing set on my character. (There, see? Now I sound paranoid, too!)

Very very grumpy. And this post reflects that nicely, doesn't it?

If it happens again -- just farm at a slightly slower rate, let the BST get his XP mobs, he surely can't be killing them as fast as you would be if he's XPing so you should be able to accomadate him and take a little more time, but not 5x as much time as usual. :)

What do you farm anyway? I'm curious now.

I'm sure there's all sorts of hidden 'just to mess with you' flags set on all our characters. :) The game is all about the road blocks. Okay, so I'm not sure, but I am sure that people have bad nights; that was yours.

As I understand it, BSTs need multiple potential pets on hand. Even with me not touching the mobs, he sometimes had to run far off to find a new one because he used them up so fast.

I'd rather not say, sorry. :) The market is right on the edge of having too many sellers and having the price bottom out, so I'd rather not add even one more farmer to it. I know you personally wouldn't jump in if I said that, but these comments are totally open and anyone could read them and jump in.

I'm sure there's all sorts of hidden 'just to mess with you' flags set on all our characters. :)

I can't help but compare FFXI to a MUSH, and I know it wouldn't take even a minute's coding to mess up someone's "luck" like that. It has to be just as easy to do it on FFXI. (But why they would do it is another question...)

Hrm. Dunno -- never played a BST, haven't a clue. Still, if he was there for at least 5 hours, it wouldn't have killed him were you to farm real quick. Oh well. Maybe he'll outgrow leveling there and it won't be an issue.

Oh. Paranoid much? :)

Yeah, I usually leave the mobs to BSTs, even if it mucks up my plans for farming that night. (I can't count then number of times that happened in CN with the Mushussus and a BST duo would be taking them.) BSTs do try to move along quickly, so that's a plus. And many prefer out of the way spots, which is prolly how you ran into him in the first place if that's where your farming is.

Then again, with Nif as the sexy BST of the family, I better be nice... or else 9.9;

Exactly. I've farmed in Meh-whatever Mountains for ages, and somehow missed that this nice area existed. He probably thought he'd be out of the way of all farmers and such. :P

Whenever I want to be mean to a BST, I always think of Nif. <3

Odd. Sometimes LJ doesn't like the " < 3 " (with no space in there) and eats it and the rest of the comment. Must think it's broken HTML. Anyway, picturing the BST as Nif usually works to keep me nice!

BST is really really hard (at least I found it to be) so I'm surprised there are suddenly so many of them around.

Maybe he'll outgrow leveling there and it won't be an issue.

Hopefully he did last night! He was there long enough. :P

Oh. Paranoid much? :)

*shifty eyes* Why do you ask? Why do you want to know? WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING?

*pokes a Beanie on a totally unrelated topic* How much of the SeeD story will I miss if I skip these three chapters written by this Chaos guy? His writing is rather, um, not as good as yours and it's making it really hard to get into whatever part of the storyline he's covering. I hate to miss anything, but man, I can't even make myself skim through it...

(And I hope he's not anyone I know and thus might stumble across this. :/ I hate to say bad things about anyone's writing. I don't want to hurt feelings!)

I'm still learning the core classes. BST is right up there with NIN and RGR on my 'Yeah...I'll run right out and open these up' list. :) I'm sure that there are a ton of folks that love the classes I mentioned, I'm just not even mildly interested at this point. :) I have enough to learn with BLM, RDM, and WHM -- y'know?

And there's no rush to open/learn them, either! You have, well, forever ahead of you! No need to rush through stuff! :D One day you'll have WHM, BLM, and RDM at 75 and will need something new to level! ;)

aw <3

And I usually get annoyed when people start farming on top of me, but I try to avoid busy areas completely. ._.; If we go into party zones we get yelled at and if we go into areas that are farmed often, the xp is painfully slow. What level was he? If he was under 35, he probably wasn't using too many pets. It's usually 1 pet for 1 kill before you get Leave, and we don't kill all that fast.

I'm not sure what level he was, and I couldn't tell you his name other than it was short and I think it started with R. As soon as I saw a mob's name in blue I glanced around, spotted him resting, and moved on. (I try to resist randomly checking folks, and he was anon so I couldn't /search him to find out his level.)

Um... Lemme skim through it to remember.

chapter 6 starts really heavy chaos and then shifts back to me. 6 is mostly foundation laying for 7 & 8 =/

you might actually appreciate chapter 7, thinking about it. just for the discomfort levar and jessie are put through.

8 is actually really important because of a character that's introduced there.

Oh ho ho, maybe I skipped too far then. Finally I just gave up on 6 and moved on to 7 (which has seemed fine thus far, though I'm barely into it), but I can go back and just pick up later in 6.

Thanks so much for sharing this story! I'm loving it so much! And Xu is so Beanie! (Or Beanie is Xu...) I keep expecting Xu's tail to be mentioned in the fight scenes. :P

You make me blush. And yes, it is avatarish, though in a way not since I doubt I could ever be such an ideal. But as I see writing.. you *have* to put a piece of yourself, even a small part of it, into a story to give it life. If you try to cookie cutter it, to remove yourself completely with nothing personal of the author.. then it's flat.. it doesn't breath.. and it doesn't capture the reader.. [shrugs]

[grins]

Remind me to tell you about Xu and Tsuyo after you've finished reading the story. (You won't meat Tsuyo until late late late in the story). I was looking through my outlines / drafts for a sequel and found some interesting stuff that would make you laugh :)
