I'm just a girl... (A mixed bag post, mostly RL stuff. FFXI at the end.)

First off: Catlove is down (and has been since yesterday), thus my screenshots are all out of reach, I have no email (no LJ comments), etc. Supposedly everything will come back up between noon Central and the end of the day, so it shouldn't be much longer.

Second: Dude, this Advent's Children movie is such a pain to get working! I had time before work this morning, so I was going to watch the first half of it. VCL crashed every two to three seconds! Every time I tried it! (But worked fine when I wasn't trying to use the subtitles...) So I went and downloaded Windows Media Classic, but then I had no subtitles, period.

Bah.

Third: How'd that "I'm just a girl" song go? *checks the lyrics* Okay, that song doesn't fit as well as I thought it had, but here's the point anyway: It worries me that I'm suddenly drawn to "cute" things. I saw mention of a store named All Things Kawaii and went "Eee! That's in San Francisco! I should go!". In the last few days I've joined allthingskawaii and smilingbread (a "cute foods" group), and I find myself going "Eeeeee!" over these things.

Next thing you know, I'll be wearing pink and hoping that some cute boy asks me to the prom...

FFXI: Nothing to report, no big events or big fun. Been farming, making oodles of money, enough that I'm going to splurge and get some silly stuff for my house (a saltwater and a freshwater fish tank!). I know it sounds silly to talk about splurging when all I've done for weeks is make money, but I don't even have enough for my next (HQ) scythe yet! But the tanks will cost just a tiny fraction of the scythe (200K for each tank at AH, not sure how much from Ead making them. Scythe is about 5M. :/)

Eh, non-players, I suppose I should have mentioned this long ago. (Or maybe it's obvious?) All money is just plain gil. If you wanted, you could say "20G" to mean 20 gil, but that'd be silly. If you mean 20G, you'd say "20". K stands for a thousand and M stands for a million. So 20K = 20,000 and 20M = 20,000,000. Sometimes new players get confused about that and it makes for amusing mistakes: Them offering 500K when they mean just plain 500... (I think they see K enough that they figure it somehow stands for "gil"? :P )

What are you having problems with? o.o If it's the subtitles, I had to get directvobsub (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/DirectVobSub.htm). Then I just had to have xvid and windows media player classic to play the file. It's a little tricky (was for me) to get vobsub and wmpclassic to work together. You go to Options > Filters > Overrides and add it to the list. Even after that, I still had to load the subtitles file manually. There's a little green arrow icon that appears when you start playing. Click that and set it to open the AC subtitles file, and you're done. o.ob

Assuming you have the same version of the movie as I do, you are probably missing the ffdshow filter.. although I don't know if it's related to subtitles at all.

^the green icon is in your system tray near the clock and volume. ^^ Forgot to mention. You might be able to right click WMPC to mess with it, but I found the icon easier.

I'm not sure if you have this already or not, or what verrsion you have, but DivX ran the one a friend sent me just fine. You can get the plug-in and player for nothing at www.divx.com.

As many times as I saw it explained to me I couldn't figure out how to get the subtitles to work in VLC or WMP either, then I tried it in BS Player, and bingo. I hate the player itself, but the fact that you can open a subtitle file from the main screen makes it painless ^^
