Don't ask me when this became a game journal. Hopefully when I go back to work tomorrow I'll have something else to post about. (Like the fact that I'm really loving the Naruto dub eps! It's so nice to see the beginning of the series again!)
At one point, probably not too long ago, I wouldn't have batted an eyelash at an 11 hour day on FFXI, but now it's just... gah. For the second weekend in a row, I got up at 7 AM for an in-game event. (Yeah, I could have gotten up a little later but I wanted to shower and I hadn't gotten myself ready on-game the night before so I had to do it in the morning.) A LS we work with (SB) was doing an event, so I wanted to go and help out. I didn't need anything we were going for (panties or mission), I just wanted them to see my face and see that I'm not a total flake.
It was quite an event. It started quite a bit late (but what can you do with 18 people attending?), and it was further slowed by someone being totally unprepared. (If you need the mission, you do not show up an hour after the start time and then still need to do all the leg-work! Bah.) I stayed for three hours, and they hadn't even gotten up to the mission part yet. (Draque stayed another hour after that, and they still hadn't...)
We ran into two NMs, which always makes me happy. Tres Duendes was the first one, and also the one where I failed at that whole "showing I'm not a flake" thing. Mob (and its Taru pet) was pulled into camp, so I attacked it as it arrived. Turns out we were killing the pet first. I don't know if I missed someone saying that or if there's a HNM LS rule that you kill pets first or what. (The screenshot is funny. Up till I saw it, I had thought that I attacked because others were, but it looks like I was the first one. :/ )
We got what I think is the good drop? Some NIN weapon.

The second NM was Eba, a DRK fomor. She dropped the Fomor Tunic, which is pretty nice for DRKs in level capped areas. But as you can see, my lotting sucked:

And it went to someone whose DRK is level 41. I hadn't gone there for anything, so I wasn't terribly sad. (Plus I was leaving in 30 minutes, so I would have felt horrible if I got it and then left right away.)
The day went downhill pretty fast after that. We were going to XP (finally! For the first time in five weeks!), but there were no tanks to be found. I did nothing but repeat "/sea all 60", "/sea all 61" "/sea all 62" for more than an hour. I asked every single tank job, seeking or not. I even tried inviting tanks who were in parties. c.c No luck. I was sick of searching, and was having zero fun. I was about to call it off and go play WoW (because really, why all this work? why all this stress? for a game?), but the last person I tried (a non-seeking NIN) accepted.
XP wasn't horrible but wasn't outstanding. Things went okay. The random THF we had stole 5 or so gold beastcoins, which made me want to rob him. (I successfully stole one at the end of the party, which made me feel a little better.) Unfortunately he lost his connection and we got someone who couldn't have been anything but a bought character. Level 60, rank 10, yet linked on every single pull (sometimes more than one link!). The previous THF linked once.
Through no one's fault but my own (or S-E's), I ended up eating dirt. Apparently my Trick Attack wasn't lined up to FFXI's exacting inhuman standards, and I got hate and couldn't lose it. (It was another one of those "why the hell am I still playing this game?" moments. I could not have lined up any more perfect than I had, and yet it wasn't good enough. Do I need to hold rulers to the screen or something?)
I leveled to 62 (yay!), then deleveled through dying (...), but nice Cehra's R2 got me my level back.
But there's only one thing
gbeans needs to know about this whole post:

I really, really wish I could just log off of FFXI now. It's 8 PM and I have a crapload of RL work to do, but I have two more tasks that have to be done first. (Have to, not want to. I need to have them done for tomorrow.) Very tired and stressed and have had a headache for the last five or so hours.

WoW: Nighttime is nice time! Is the moon always full? How long is a game day? (I've been playing for a few days now, but I've only seen nighttime twice.) I really want to play, but I don't know if I'll fit it in today. At least when I can finally log back on, I'll have lots of that "rested XP" time.
Edit: Wow. Just looking at that screenshot now makes me feel more relaxed. The simpler graphics are oddly comforting. The colors are nice and calm. And look! There's Fluffy's name even though I haven't seen him all day! I hope he's not getting unhappier because I haven't fed him all day. Maybe later I can pop in to check.

Date: 2005-10-03 03:12 am (UTC)Full moon is always full as well, though its colour and stuff will change from area to area.
Blizzard has said they're working on weather but they want to get "get it right" or something to that effect. My guess is the earliest it'll come in during the first expansion or something :(
But if they "get it right" having whole weather systems moving across the continents would be cool :o

Date: 2005-10-03 03:48 am (UTC)Just out of interest, are you planning to take the static to 75?
You make me want to play WoW now!

Heehee. On one hand, I hate tempting people with it. On the other, I can say hi to FFXI people when they log on! :)
I think you picked up my bad luck with parties. FFXI can be very, very stressful, but the good days outnumber the bad. It's just a shame all the bad days arrive all at once.
I think I'm just having a bad time right now. I don't know why, but it seems like FFXI is only stress and work, not fun at all. It doesn't feel like burnout, but maybe that's what it is. :/ Hopefully some time on WoW will make me get over it.

Date: 2005-10-03 07:40 am (UTC)I am always prompt for LS events so I know how you feel. Worst case example: Last week Dynamis was originally in the lsmes for 1pm, then I got on at 1 and it said 2:30,changed at 5:30am, so I came back at 3, and I'm not sure how 2 hours passed but I went back to bed VERY pissed off at about 5:10 for a nap and they decided they would not even go straight to Dynamis so when I came back at about 8:30 they had been in Dynamis for approx. 20 minutes. No exaggeration. And no one else seems to understand why it pissed me off so much ~_~ Annoying people!

Date: 2005-10-03 06:37 pm (UTC)And on the subject of nighttime in WoW, my first few "days" of playing WoW have only been late at night, 11pm-4am, so I had only ever seen it like that. I played during the day for the first time on Saturday and it was quite strange to see the sun out. 8)

Date: 2005-10-03 06:42 pm (UTC)Ha ha, so we're about opposite on WoW! The 24 hour day is pretty darned nice though. I like it better than FFXI's speedy time.

Date: 2005-10-03 07:28 pm (UTC)You can also add "inv" to show only those with their invite flag up.
I'm enjoying the difference, just for difference's sake. But if there's any time-dependent events or stuff like that, then it would suck.

Date: 2005-10-03 08:27 pm (UTC)I'm told there's no difference at all, other than the colors and sounds. They're considering adding weather, which could be nice.
