CoP missioning and Dynamis - Sandy!

Way early this morning we started the Tenzen path of the CoP pre-6-4 missions. Luckily it wasn't anywhere near as long or as hard as we thought it would be. Perhaps the most annoying part was that it was a 50 capped area, thus I had to wear subligar. :P It took us perhaps 2? 3? hours to do, then we did the various CSs, the Tower NM fight, and the trip through the 60 capped tower to get the final CS.

FFXI is so amazingly good with stories! The CSs and the plot were so totally worth the hours of work we've put into this thus far. Unfortunately I have to cut part of this, since it is CoP-spoilery. :/

Eeee! Eeee! Eee! I think the CS outside of Jeuno (at the ??? in Batallia Downs) is my new most favorite CS of all time. Wolfgang and Monberaux are SO SO SO SO SO a couple, and it's the totally sweetest thing in the world!

Look at this dialogue between them! And more dialogue here! *makes many happy-fangirl noises*

But man, this whole part of the CS might just count as the coolest thing ever -- going back in time to see the ancient people? Eee! So cool! And how we were standing up in the sky looking down? Wonderful!

And if I didn't love that CS enough: Look! It's Draque's and my forefathers! Eee! These are people from so long in the past, yet there are two who look just like Draque and I! :D

Wish I didn't have to cut that, because those are probably the coolest screenshots of this post. :D

Then, after CoP, there was a Dynamis run in Sandy, so I went along! (Non-players: Dynamis is a shadow version of the "real" game world. The cities are filled with monsters instead of people. It's something only the highest level people (generally 70+) can do, and you do it in large groups. It's very very deathy, but there are good things dropped there, too. Special armor and such.) Sandy was the one I've wanted to see, ever since I was a level 1 WHM and heard about the whole Dynamis thing. I thought it'd be so totally cool to see Sandy, the city I loved, filled with monsters that I could help kill!

Alas, I really had built the whole thing up in my mind too much (looking forward to something for more than a year will do that, I suppose). The city didn't look cool (or any different at all, really), and the mobs were surprisingly few and far between. (Besides, I didn't get to see much. In all my dreaming about Dynamis I had always pictured me running around and looking at stuff.) The music was very cool... but after three hours of it I wanted to stuff my ears so I wouldn't have to hear it anymore.

Here we are, gathering at the first camp. See how many people there are!

Second camp, notice me standing there just watching the fight in the distance? That's how I spent most of the time, alas.

Eee! So cool! Swirly! That's what the gates out to Ronf and into the MH exit looked like. I tried running through, but you can't. Looks really cool though!

Most of the mobs were these odd orcs. Kind of cool looking.

The NM orc responsible for the most amusing part of the night: This orc had a special AoE charm move (could charm PCs in a whole area, thus control them). He got nearly the whole group, 30-ish people charmed, under his orders, following him... all except me! I wedged myself into a corner behind the chocobo stable, doing Beanie's "I'm a tree, I'm a tree!" thing. The darned NM and all the charmed PCs walked right past me, but somehow didn't see me! (If he had, all the charmed PCs would have attacked me! :D ) Eventually he lead them away from me, heehee. I wish I had gotten a screenshot of all the charmed people, but I was in something of a panic -- I had no idea where I could run if they all came after me!

The good parts of Dynamis: I got 3? 4? levels of GS skillup (it's only 10 levels below scythe now, and scythe is nearly capped!). I died twice, but Merlee gave me R3s both times so I only lost about 500 XP total (YAY). I was so happy that Merlee was our WHM because I totally trusted her. :) And the last good part was how much fun my party had (we were bored out of our minds, so we were joking, flirting, and getting naked with each other -- I almost missed the call to move camps once, because our DRG and I were removing our clothing together, piece by piece. :P ).

The bad parts: See that whole 'we were so bored' part. I spent the vast, vast majority of my time doing nothing. The other group did most of the fights and we just watched them as we waited for our PLD to try to bring us something to kill. This unfortunately lead to a lot of complaining on /p -- people were bored and really annoyed that we were doing nothing (rightly so in my opinion, though I never joined the complaining out loud). One of the DRKs in my group was one of those types who made me ashamed that he was a DRK. :( He couldn't even stun (not stun a move, we were just stunning in turn to try to keep it from doing anything).

So all in all I'm glad I got to go, but I have zero interest in going again. It took way too long, and I felt worse than useless. Mostly I just stood around and hoped I was standing in the right place. The few times our group got to fight, I only got a swing or two in before the mob died. :/ (By the way, [livejournal.com profile] gbeans, the walk-through you gave me before we started rocked. It was really good knowing where we were headed and where camps were and stuff!)

Maybe one day I'll go again, when I'm really high level and have nothing else to do. I am glad I got to go this one time though, since I've wanted to do it for so long. Just wish I hadn't been useless...

All Orc NMs can cast Charmga, no one should be in range that doesn't have to be >_>.

Yeah, we had a mishap with one of the NMs, and for some reason random people were attacking it (and thus got charmed). All the rest of them got -age III'ed from a distance. :P

I'd personally rather get charmed if it's going to happen. XD When you're charmed, you don't have a huge 30-person mob come after you.

For the record, standing in the back and doing nothing is NOT normal for any SB Dynamis run I've done. >_>/ Your PLD musta been lousy with the pulling and giving you something to /assist them on. Most of the time in Dynamis I'm rather busy, and that's as a DRG. I do a whole lot of Jumping and poking with the pointy sticks and that's about it, but it keeps me busy. o.o/

I so should have followed my first impulse and gone with you guys. :E Ah well, as I told you, spending time with my boys was worth it. ;3 Who got the DRG boots, out of curiosity? (If it's the moron, I swear I'll scream. XE)

His tank was fine.

The RDM's and BLM's using Sleep/Sleepga on pulls were not. I was watching and his tank got very pissed off as the mob he was pulling back to camp was slept five times on the way back.

Ummmm. By the time the boots dropped I think we had three people lotting. The guy you didn't like, someone named... um, RagonXXI.. something (named after that server) and someone else. I think that third person got it? Not one of the two people whose names I semi-knew.

Only two other AF2s dropped, something RNG-ish (Ryu got) and... um, something else.

True, but the NM lead the charmed people out into that tunnel leading away from the stable. I was worried the charm would break with everyone in the middle of a mob of mobs! (But luckily the charm broke just a little into the tunnel and they all ran back to the camps.)

His tank was fine.

Unfortunately we hadn't known that at the time and were all blaming him. All we knew (since we couldn't see the stuff happening in the front) was that he'd run off and never come back with a mob for us to kill.

Maybe I'll have to go some other time and try it again, maybe Bastok...
