Cats and Russians, and FFXI... oh my!
Jan. 24th, 2006 03:36 pmI enjoy poking through those sites that pull random images off the latest LJ posts. (this is the one I use.) For the last few months, it seems like 30-40% of the images come from Russian LJs. (I almost never find any from other non-English sites, maybe a Spanish one once or twice a week.) But hey, Russians post the most interesting stuff, so it works out!
I have no idea if this is real or photoshopped, but man, what a cool looking cat! I guess that's a Russian fireman saving it from a fire?
And on the FFXI front: When I feel like I don't have enough pain in my life, I read through the message boards on Alla. Today, for perhaps the first time ever, I actually found something useful!
Recall a while back that JP folks were calling Dark Knights 'Souleaters'? And how odd that seemed? Quote:
Dark Knight -> Ankokukishi
Souleater -> Ankoku
So yeah, both terms start with the same 2 kanji, and like how the English version uses short terms like DRK and WHM to shortern job names, the Japanese version uses the first kanji of each job name. But due to typing reasons, people type ankoku instead of just the first kanji. And when you get lazy-tab-auto-translate that, you only get ankoku (Souleater) instead of ankokukishi (Dark Knight)

Date: 2006-01-25 05:58 pm (UTC)I don't know what to say about that cat. If it's a real one, that's the most pissed off cat I've ever seen in my life. I don't blame it, but still, I wouldn't want to cross it.
Also, I wanted to share this: http://mfrost.typepad.com/cute_overload/2006/01/new_kitten_swif.html
