Heroes! Eee! The chick and I said exactly the same thing at the end! Heh!

Well, that was the high point of the day. I was this close to uninstalling FFXI tonight. Horrible work day (and it's only going to get worse for the next month or so), log on to the game and spend 500K for a single .1 skillup in leather. Nearly cried. That's so messed up.

Went chocobo digging. Actually lost money. Never since the nerf have I not even been able to cover the cost of the greens. The best item was a giant femur, and I didn't get more than a couple of those. Closer to quitting the game.

Eco was okay. Ended and headed off to Escort. Nearly 7 PM by this point, and I've been up and doing crap since 5 AM -- work and then "work" on game. Not a second of free/relaxing time to myself all day. We lose the fucking Escort NPC to another group, thus we had to spend another half-hour sitting on our asses waiting. Tick tick tick. Assuming we got her next, I'd have a whole hour of relaxing/downtime after before having to go to bed before work tomorrow.

Luckily we got her next. Reward for Escort is 750 to 1000 XP. I got 762. Fuck me with a fork.

Realized that in my crafting binge I used up all my supplies. (Used 500K of bought hides, but all my saved stacks of ram leather and wool thread as well.) Tomorrow's guild turn-in would likely use one of those two items, so stayed my "free" hour as well as an additional hour to make more of both.

It's a damned good thing that Heroes was good, otherwise I'd ... I'd be something now.

Tomorrow is XP static. Wednesday is BCing. Thursday I have "off" on the game -- my first day "off" since Friday of last week. How fucked up is that, I get two days off a week on game, and already I know I'll be spending them trying to rebuild my stock of leather/stuff to sell.

But hey, at least I get to go to my job tomorrow. I can't be stuck doing FFXI shit there.

If that's how a *game* has become for you, you seriously need to cut back on some aspect of it. I know it's hard, I know you have obligations. But at no point should FFXI be another job for you. If it is then you've let it go too far and you need to cut back.

Beanie's right. You're here to have fun.

If you you're not having fun, do something else. Maybe lighten up on the crafting for a bit. (that said, I can get wool thread pretty easy, with a bit of warning).

Beanie: You're up early.

So don't log in for a couple days. o.O And seriously, you don't have to go on crafting binges. You have all your BRD stuff, you have all your DRK stuff... Where's the fire? It's not an emergency to make gil, especially not if it pisses you off so much. Just make a choice to stop, you're being obsessive again. :P The only things on that list that were unavoidable frustrations was the delay in escort and the lousy scroll you got from it. Try not crafting and not digging for a week. I dare you. ;3

I'm agree with Beanie and Calandra.

The game should be fun. Hanging out with friends and doing stuff together is that, but you're got more scheduled in FFXI than IRL. That's not fun. Give the crafting a break for starters. Time to take a few big steps back and do something else.

I totally agree with everyone else. Why do you think I don't log in most nights, and sometimes not at all? Suffering burn out and trying to get some relief from it. Technically I 'should' be saving for that level 71 sword.. but fuck that. I've ten levels to get, and could buy it right now if I were willing to use the gil I have.. so no fucking way. ;)

No one will get mad at you if you don'g dig, or log in every night to farm and craft. All our AF is done, we've got the things we need.. get some rest!

So don't log in for a couple days.

And skip out on what? Static? Escort? Helping people? I don't let people down, not without damned good reason. Getting hit by a truck, eaten by a bear, kidnapped. "Good" reasons like those. Stressed? Not good enough reason.

Try not crafting and not digging for a week. I dare you. ;3

That's what I do on the game. Jokes aside, I'm not a BRD. I hardly even count as a DRK anymore. I craft and I dig. That's what I do.

First off, every time I get a comment email from you, it freaks me out:

Dave Martin (calandra)

. o O ( Dave? Dave? But that's a guy's name! Cala is a girl! ) Heehee.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to try to.

Glad you like it!

Totally agreed. The only question is where.

Luckily AFs are finally all done for our static (I think), so that's one thing off the list. Hopefully once RL job goes back to normal the game won't stress me as much.

I'm so f'ing close to leather 100 (sort of, 98.3), once I got that done that would be a major thing off my back forever. Then I'd just need one more level of gold and ALL crafting leveling would be finished forever.

They're your friends, right? Let them know you'd like to take a break and concentrate on crafting or digging if that's what you really want to do in the game. From what I've seen in these comments, it looks like most people will be pretty understanding. "Helping people" needs to include you, too. Sometimes that means helping yourself by not scheduling the fun out of the game doing things for other people.

Stress is a good enough reason if ignoring it drives you completely away from the game, which is where it seems like you're headed. If you really don't want to play FFXI anymore, that's fine. But if you're just burned out and need a break, do that so that you can come back and actually enjoy doing Escort and Eco and your static and helping people.

We should check with Nil and see if his AF is all done. I suspect he's still missing a key or two? Or maybe he got it done with other people and didn't say anything.

No one will get mad at you if you don'g dig, or log in every night to farm and craft.

No one except me. :P

Thanks though, I'm going to try to find somewhere to cut back. :)

Exactly. Calandra is female. It happens that Calandra's player is male. (most of the time) I use female pronouns in-game. I've been roleplaying one way or another for enough years (decades? >< ) that it feels odd otherwise.

('dria sometimes plays my character. Less so, now that she has her own little taru mage. ^^ )

I'm a monk, so just going out and killing things is alwasy theraputic for me. Sometimes you'll see me log on and ask: "Anyone need anything pummeled?". No plans, no stress, and I get to help people. I usually end up having a pretty good time.

That's impressive. I thought that we had all our AF. Then we hit 75 and people started leveling other jobs. I think we've done 7 or 8 sets of AF since then, with several more pending. And if I'm not careful, I'll need two more myself.

What items do you need for those? I can keep an eye out.

If nothing else, I need gil and I'd rather sell wool thread to you than the AH. I'll even give you the LS discount. ^^

To be blunt, yes.

It's a game. It's a stresfull, insane, agravating, anoying, wonderful, fun game. We like it because it's difficult. If not, we'd be playing WoW. We like it because we like the people. If not, we'd be playing ps2 or reading a book.

I'm not saying let folks down. That's different.

If you've told someone that you'd help them with something, then sure, that's one thing. But you don't have to volunteer to help with every thing that comes up, and if you take it easy for a bit they'll understand.

Running out on your static with out warning isn't good. But this isn't without warning, and it isn't with out reason. If you're not up to playing, then forcing yourself is bad. They'll understand. And if your static doesn't understand, then they have a date with me in Ballista. And I'm bringing Beanie. :->

And being eaten by a bear isn't a good reason. Being eaten by a bear just isn't good anyway you look at it. ^^

Thistle ~.~ Remember when you got your Lu's and you drove yourself *nuts* over getting it. And you kept saying stuff like "just 3000 more fish and I'm done forever!" You did get it done in way faster time than most bots manage it, then you didn't use the Lu's cause they changed fishing. Stop. Take a deep breath. Your crafting skill doesn't go down if you don't synth for a night. Relax. You'll get it. It doesn't have to be tomorrow, the next day, or even this month. In short, stop obsessing. The self-impossed stress is throttling your brain. And while I'm all for seeing you throttled, I don't like seeing you this wound up :|

Listen to Inda, she's a smart Mithra [nods]

Eco will be fine if you take some time off. Everyone needs time to themselves. Lord knows I growl at people sometimes if they're crawling up my back too much and I just need some time to do my own thing. And our shell and our friends really are understanding, Thistle. Take care of yourself, dammit :|

And speaking of bears, I was pawing through my mother's desk and found this. It made me laugh :x

"GONNA BE A BEAR

"In thist life I'm a woman. In my next life, I'd like to come back as a bear. When you're a bear, you get to hibernate. You do nothing but sleep for six months. I could deal with that.

"Before you hibernate, you're supposed to eat yourself stupid. I could deal with that too.

"When you're a girl bear, you birth your children (who are the size of walnuts) while you're sleeping and wake to partially grown, cute, cuddly cubs. I could definitely deal with that.

"If you're a mama bear, everyone knows you mean business. You swat anyone who bothers your cubs. If your cubs get out of line, you swat them too. I could deal with that.

"If you're a bear, your mate EXPECTS you to wake up growling. He EXPECTS that you will have hairy legs and excess body fat.

"Yup, gonna be a bear!"

Actually...AF isn't done. But if I don't get it, I don't have to store it. Body & Hands are worthless anyway. And there's absolutely NO chance of me going for keys anytime soon. I'm done with those. 1 full (mostly useless) AF is enough to convince me to not get the useless parts of the other...at least until I'm 70ish and looking to upgrade them. Thanks for the thought though!

PS caught heroes last night...decided i need to watch from the beginning...pity the downloaded ep0 is such crap quality.

There's 5 of me where I work. (One of them works in the next building over. I get a lot of calls for him.)

All those people above me say it, I say it too. Burnout sucks. I burned out (and got bored with) WoW back in the beta. I typically burn out on EVERY MMO I play because I do it too much. I like FFXI, and I like the LS and my other friends online (and seeing my RL friends in game). How have I not burned myself out on FFXI? Simple - i stop. I take a break. I'm out of a job, and COULD spend every waking hour ingame, but I don't. And that makes me look forward to my static this evening.

The moment a game goes from "want to do" to "must do", it ceases to be recreational. People start recommending support groups. Take a break. If you need time off from the game as a whole, tell us. I can't speak for the rest of the static, but I'd understand if we need to stop for a bit.

Amen to every point in that post. If you can't choose to not log on without feeling guilty, you need to rethink your priorities. Your personal comfort, or the game? No brainer. Being stressed is a damn good reason to not log on. I know how you feel -- hell, I felt bad telling my friends I couldn't log on for a couple weeks because I had to study for my finals. How fucked up is that?

Point being, even though you may feel bad for missing static or eco or escort, your friends will live. If you've given them prior notice they really have no reason to feel let down. If they do, then F them for prioritizing the game over you. =P
