What an odd game... (FFXI)

How is it that this game somehow gets me to not only do something I don't like, but to do it for 10 hours straight? Under the worst conditions?
I hate XPing. I really, really, really hate it. It's boring and redundant. Yet I did it the entire day today, and mostly in the Dunes.
Chaser's MNK got to 18 though, so yay! I woke up at 7 AM with the most god awful headache, so instead of trying to go back to sleep I got up and took some aspirin then went online and put Chaser's flag up. Surprisingly, the party from last night? the Dunes burn party? we mostly got back together again! 5/6 of us, and we went to the Tunnel! Yay! Unfortunately, after two levels, half of them lost their connection at once (they live together), so then I had to go back to the Dunes. :/
Two hours to get two levels in the Tunnel, eight hours to get two levels in the Dunes. Well, 2.5 levels in the Dunes. Either way, gah, so sucky.
However, the Dunes do make for much amusement! The MNK 16 in level 1 armor, the WAR/RDM, and this winner, the WAR in my last party there: He was WAR 15, no subjob, yet claimed he also had BLM and WHM 75 on this character. We were fighting crabs and flies, and he told us we should switch to pugs because we'd get 500 XP per kill -- he got that earlier today! Then he asked us what WAR should use as a subjob. I responded by asking him what the WARs his BLM and WHM 75 partied with used. His response:
So ha ha yes. Neverending fun and education in the Dunes!
<3 Draque got me my skull and escorted braindead me back to turn it in (got the worm and the apron while XPing).
After that, as if I hadn't spent enough of the day doing something I hate, I did WAR 7 to 9 on her. No armor, level 1 weapon. :P However, now her subjob isn't gimped, so I can go back to the Dunes and get the last 1.5 levels I need! Then it's a chocobo license and access to ToAU and a locker and other good stuff!
I'll be so happy to never ever ever XP her again!
