Mostly for myself, but if anyone's interested:
Total number of synths: 35
Successes: 29
Fails (all lost ore): 6
Total profit from sales of successes: 260K
Total loss from fails/lost ores: 540K
Total loss for one level: 280K
I've been on the tail end of things through the whole of my goldsmithing skilling. There were other synths before this one which had been profitable just weeks/months before I hit them but by the time I got to them they became a loss. Unfortunately ore->bead is becoming the same.
When I started the level, ores sold for 90K and beads sold for 110. Prices of beads fell to 105K then to 100K. Prices of ores rose from 90K to 95K and now 100K. While I can accept not making a profit while I skill, the problem is when I fail a synth and lose an ore -- without the bit of profit from the successes, the 100K loss per failed synth hurts.
I looked hard for a different synth to do, but this still looks like the best one. >< I keep saying I'm going to quit goldsmithing, I said it as recently as yesterday, but I have such a hard time stopping. :/

Date: 2007-07-17 02:37 pm (UTC)Its almost like the market is at a permanent state of near-saturation, and ONE more crafter increases the supply past a stable point. I used to think it was gilsellers doing it, but I think maybe the economy is just funky. Stay out of the market for a little while, and it'll balance, and you can destabilize it again. It sucks and is why I've sat at 87, making .2 a week, but it keeps me in the black. Praying 88-92 will be better with icarus wings. Then panacea (which reminds me, i can start buying your philosopher stones again) which noone sells, with good reason. Panacea + gold/platinum leaf = stack of nuggets.
Sorry for the rant&ramble. Angry at crafting lately, and bored at work.

How are nugget prices compared to ingot? If ingot are worth a lot more, maybe we can work out a deal. Chaser can turn either nuggets into ingots. (I think it's 6 + 1 ore = ingot.)
