I believe the FL rankup quest is pre-300 movie? Still, that quote amused me muchly.

Longest. CS. Ever. The third game alone took me 45 minutes. Four CSs, each with an hour wait between them = not much else done tonight. Still: YAY First Lieutenant! I need nothing else from Assaults now! No AP or ranking points! (Shhh, Captain isn't a reasonable goal for me, I'm not even trying for that.)

Fishingbot's woodworking rose to 21, which was only 3 levels, but it was the last thing on my to-do list tonight.

However! That 'wait an hour' thing worked out well for RL. I'm starting to feel better (zero energy but almost zero pain, too!) so I got a whole lot done around my apartment. There's still stuff left to do, but I made a darned good dent in it tonight. :D

Next up, very important thing: Must go grocery shopping!

Oh yeah, and I have my first 'like' vegetable -- not one I'm just willing to eat, but one I actually liked. (Corn and potatoes don't count.) Red peppers! This was my second time eating them and second time liking them. I had thought that all peppers were gah horrible hot, but these were sweet. (Roasted, if that makes a difference.) I also tried green peppers, but didn't like them much, they were kind of bitter.

Edit: Just got to watch the last CS. *sniffle* ToAU is my favorite of all the expansion packs, hands down, nothing else is even close. So much heart and great story! Even Wings' basically free XP can't come close. :) I should do Besieged more, I sure do miss that city. :D

Glad you're starting to feel better.

Red, yellow and green peppers really aren't hot at all. I don't normally care for them just because of their texture, but roasted red peppers are lovely, and they're great in sauce.

I second this! So very glad there's no pain!

I don't like those peppers either (Like the hot ones though!), but have been told they are great stuffed. You should look up some recipes. :)

Me, achi, and a couple other people from our LS are going for captain rank >.> we are 4/6 already at FL and I'm only 7 assaults (5 being FL ones...) off of it! No excuses!

But that CS was very awesome. I thought it would never end though, it took forever!

Red bell peppers are very sweet unlike their green counterparts. Yellow is a bit in between in terms of sweetness. Roasting only concentrates the sweetness and flavor. Plus if you char off the outside skin it's much better since it can be a bit tougher. Have you tried beets? They're mostly flavorless and a little sweet. Just tossing ideas.

I'm glad you're feeling better. ^^

Just because it's called a "pepper"... Thistle is so prejudiced :P
Red, orange, yellow, and green peppers pretty much go from sweet to vegetable-ee down the rainbow scale. I like them mostly for color more than anything. Green is booooring. That said, have you tried broccoli yet? They're not terribly strong in flavor and pretty much soaks up whatever seasoning/sauce you cook them in.

Also glad you're feeling better :P the posts are back to their usual cheeriful tone ;)

Even among the "hot" peppers there are varying degrees of "heat", denoted in the Scoville scale: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoville_scale
As you can see bell peppers at the v v bottom :)

Heh, Vel posted the exact comment I was going to post. XD If you ever want to go for Captain, my static is catching people up and doing all the FL ranks. XD We need two more people, and you got the jobs to fit right in! =p

Oh, and 300 preceeded FL rankup quest by five months. =p

Oh yes, there is that. I'll only eat green peppers if they're stuffed. Something about the sauce they're cooked in makes all the difference, and having the filling to offset the texture helps a great deal.

Favorite way to have broccoli? Very simply, steaming it and squirting some fresh lemon over it with a little butter. Very tasty and light.

So glad you're feeling better!

I loved the FL quest, too. I really got attached to the other characters. It was so sweet. ^^ The games were fun and not too tricky. I'm kinda sad there aren't going to be more. (My group's going for Captain, but the last quest is apparently not that involved. ;p)

Glad to hear you're doing better. I also congratulate your veggie accomplishment and compliment you on your taste. Red peppers are delicious when roasted, especially in hummus, and they're an excellent compliment in any stirfry. (Heh, I'm one to talk. I just fell in love with red peppers recently after hating them for years and years.)

You mean not that involved besides FINISHING EVERY SINGLE LAST ASSAULT MISSION AND ToAU?!?!
Yeah I'm bitter, having so little time to play that I got demoted in WotG make me so. :(

No, I mean once you get the quest, there's apparently not much to it. Obviously, getting the quest is the hard part. ;p

Also, I feel your pain, having gotten to the heights of the third WotG ribbon, then having a really busy month and getting demoted back to a Brass Ribbon. I can understand not getting promoted, but the demotion personally annoys the hell out of me.

But broccoli is scary! What's with the top? Those little... bit... things must be really odd to eat. :/

Yeah, there are a ton of assaults I've never done, and honestly have no interest in doing. I'm no longer interested in doing non-fun things in FFXI! (Wacky idea, I know!)

I've never had hummus! I thought it was... um... eggplant and garlic? Is it those two things and red peppers?

Yeah, I was surprised how attached I was to the characters, even the more minor ones. (The dark haired elf, the "mice".) It was also really, really nice that the games were fair and not CoP-ish -- it was almost like playing Professor Layton! (Which I haven't touched in two weeks or so now. :/ )

Yeah, our group is working differently than your group. For many of our rank ups, we did nothing but repeats. (We had two stretches where Desant was out for multiple months at a time, and we were trying to stick together.) Let me count how many ones I have left to do...

Okay, there are 50 assaults total. I've set foot in 17 of them. 15 wins with my static, 1 win with randoms. So 16 clears of 50 assaults. Wow, that's a lot worse than I had thought. Heh.

But broccoli seems scary! What's the texture like of that top part? With all the little... bit.. thingies. Seems like it'd be a horrible thing to put into your mouth. :/

From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
Oh, huh. I wonder if they used the 300 quote on purpose then? (I hate PCs quoting it, but if SE did that would amuse me muchly.)

And thanks, but my static worked oddly and I'm not even close at all to Captain. Of the 50 assaults that are available, we've cleared 15 (plus I have 1 clear with a group of randoms). That's a heck of a lot of them left undone!

If I wanted captain rank, the most fair thing to do would be to join up with some new low-rank static, so that I didn't have to make everyone else repeat so many. (But I'm not really interested in it. :) )

Thanks though! <3

I've passed up many chances to try broccoli because it's scary! I mean, I could try the stem part, but that top part? What the heck is up with those little thingies? It seems like that'd be a horrible texture in your mouth!

Nope, but beets sound good! One day I'm going to go back to the all-you-can-eat salad bar place. They had beets there, so I can try them then!

You and Achi are too nice! :) <3 But I'm not even close to captain (I've only cleared 16 out of the 50 assaults!) and it's not really a big deal to me, so no worries. Thanks though! :)

Yeah, I'm not sure about trying them raw or any way other than roasted, but roasted = mmmmmm. Grilled smokey flavor plus nicely mushy!

Just hit Chapter 4 in Layton tonight. This after going back and redoing large parts of Chapter 3 because I missed a puzzle. I know you can get them in Granny Riddleton's shack (in fact, the reason I found out I missed one was because the game told me it was going there) but I doubt you can get bonus stuff by doing it there. Maybe you can. But my obsession with trying not to miss things wouldn't let me skip it, so back I went. ;p

Stupid non-sequential puzzles. *grumble* Why would I expect to be looking for 24 when I'm in the 30-40 range?

It's a spread made from chickpeas and garlic. Some varieties add spices and red pepper. It's really good stuff, particularly on pita bread or other vegetables. I like dipping baby carrots in it.

What chapter is 4? Last thing I remember doing is catching the cat (and a few puzzles after that), on and I think some guy got murdered. Am I behind you now? (If not, hopefully that's vague enough not to be spoilery! :P )

I love dipping carrots in hummus too. There's really nothing quite like that little crunchy-smooth texture.

Oh, hey, have you ever tried apples? I find that the sweetness and crunch are comparable to carrots, plus you're getting a little more fiber than you would with a carrot.

Hmm, let me think about it--NO! ;) :P Besieds, if I were to do the FL level ones, it sure wouldn't be with a yucky Galka! Ha ha! ;)
