The last of the miniseries is on tonight, and I'm so tempted to stay up and watch it, but instead I have to be good and record it and watch it some other time. I can't believe this is just a miniseries! It's ending way too soon. I hope HBO does another history-based one again.

An interesting thing I learned from one of the earlier parts: The White House was built by slaves. I guess that makes sense, but I had never really thought about it before. One of the "characters", either John Adams or his wife (what an amazingly interesting woman!) had the best line. "How could something good come out of a place built by half-starved slaves?" I couldn't find the exact wording of the quote, but that's the general idea. It really made me think.

While googling to try to get the exact wording of that quote, I found something exciting! Eee! NPR did a 40 minute story on the series and it's online to listen to! Eee! I need to check that out at work tomorrow. :D

I can't wait until it's available for sale/rent and more people watch it. I want to hear what everyone thinks! Amazon says the DVD is due June 10th and the soundtrack is out on this Tuesday. Eee! :D

You know, I started to watch that On Demand, and I had to turn it off after about 10 minute because the shaky, hand-held camera work was making me feel sick to my stomach. Does that change as the series goes on? I liked what I saw, but I can't stand it when they do that with the cameras.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one interested in that series..

and i hope they do a lot more. Hanks and/or Spielberg do such great historical documentary things... (Band of Brothers) I'm not sure if Spielberg was involved with this one, I can only recall the Playtone logo.

*makes notes to check out the NPR story*

While it's probably that slaves were involved in the construction of the White House, the one you saw in the series isn't the current White House. The first White House was burned to the ground in the War of 1812. :)

When Band of Brothers was on, I did the '*roll eyes* A series about that war? How boring! *skips it*' thing, but now I want to go back and check it out! If it was anywhere near as good as John Adams, I missed out on a great thing!

Huh... I hated Blare Witch Project and I skipped Cloverfield for that reason, but I didn't notice it being used in John Adams, so I'm going to say that it changed? All inside shots seemed to be really steady to me, but it seems like some of the outside ones might have been hand-held cameras? I guess they were trying to make it feel like the viewer was really there...

I wasn't that much of a fan of Saving Private Ryan, or the more recent war movies... but I could watch Band of Brothers anytime. History Channel has a bad habit of showing a couple eps here and there and i'll catch one or two then have to put the DVDs in to watch the whole thing.

I think party of the appeal for me is much of the narrative that occurs before and towards the ends of each episode.

I just got my copy of John Adams from HBO! It's a nice 3 DVD set with all the episodes. Now I just have to find the time to watch it...
