Seriously though... to an extent I agree with the sentiment. If I opted to move to Germany... or Japan... I would think myself incredibly arrogant if I walked everywhere speaking English and became irate if my desires and expectations were not being met due to a language barrier. I believe it is the responsibility of anyone who wants to participate in a foreign society to prepare themselves to function in said society. The number one effort would be to learn the native language. I plan to be in Barcelona for only 1 week this summer, possibly the only week of my entire life I will be in Spain. But yet, I have spent the last 3 weeks using the Resetta Stone software to learn as much spanish as I can. I have spent 3x the time I will actually be in the country learning their native language because I feel it's my responsibility to do so. I simply cannot endorse going to a foreign country and then having outlandish expectations because I did not fulfill my responsibility to take the most basic steps to participate in the society.

Hell, my father-in-law is from Mexico. He said the #1 most important thing for him when he came here was to learn english as fast as possible. In coversations he and I have had about the issue, he has expressed a very similar sentiment of needing to speak english to succeed in the US. So while the person who wrote this on their car window did not express it in the most eloquent manner... I can understand their sentiment and I know MANY other Americans do as well. It's not an invalid argument, and thinking it does not automatically make someone "dumb."

I thought so, but I wasn't 100% sure so I didn't comment on that part. The Minuteman sticker makes me strongly suspect it is. (They're the group that chases those "dirty Mexicans" back across the border, using guns and whatever else they feel is "right".)

Also, Thistle, the only bearable part of this image really is the hilarious misspelling, overall it's depressing as fuck that people with pro-choice bumper stickers get vandalized but these people can live blissfully unaware of how shitty a human being they are. At least I can hope that the obstructed visibility in the rear window means the owner will be in an accident and their insurance premiums will never be the same again.

Heheh. You know, just this week I was reading something written by Ben Franklin and his fears that the German population in Philadelphia was going to take over. That soon speeches would have to be given in English AND German since the German immigrants refused to learn English.
