I wasn't going to post tonight, but I wanted to save this. Usually those lolcat macros are funny or cute, but this one was really touching:

The man's expression kills me.

*sniffles* Poor kitties. Yay man! And very fitting text.

Edit: Wow, and go go go Canada! For the first time, members of Canada's Armed Forces represented the military in Toronto's annual Gay Pride parade. "The message to the public is that the Canadian Forces is an employer of choice. We have employment opportuntities that people can pursue, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation..."

What a mature stance on the matter. We could learn something from it...

Wow, never seen a lolcats that was not lol and actually had a message to it, nice find, very good pic.

I was actually reading about the soldier thing in the paper today (as I am like 30 minutes outside Toronto) and there was alot of coverage on the parade (capping off the annual pride week that happens in Toronto). I completely agree with letting people into the military regardless of sexual preference. Anyone that is willing to stand between me and people with guns who want to kill me has my support.

That's a good way of thinking about it! I might have to quote you in the future. :)

If you have not been in the military, you do not have a... what the right word... hmm.. i'm not saying that the opinion of someone not in the military is not 100% valid.. but it's not necessarily the right perspective.

In a normal job... Ok I can understand... you go to work, you see your coworker, you go home. In the military, you must work with your coworkers, eat with your coworkers, share a bathroom with your coworkers, in some cases sleep in the same room with your coworkers. In the private sector, if a male or female was asked to do the above with a straight coworker of the opposite gender, is it hard to believe that some might find that a bit uncomfortable?

If you're trying to create a military where people have to depend on each other for their lives, it's awfully hard if there is animosity between those that you are trying to train. The military is a reflection of society... not the other way around. If you want change in the US Military... change in the general populous will need to come first.

Though you might find this shocking... I don't really care. I think "Anyone that is willing to stand between me and people with guns who want to kill me has my support." is a very logical comment and I agree wholeheartedly. I can see where there is difficulty in the military thoguh, that is not present in your "standard" workplace.

Straight people, men especially, seem to have this mistaken belief that any gay man is after any guy's ass. I would be just as uncomfortable sleeping/eating/living with a man as I would a woman. However, I'd also find being yelled at by a DI, having to run 57847571 miles, having to potentially shoot people to be a heck of a lot more uncomfortable than having to sleep in the same room as a gay woman. The "worry" of being hit on wouldn't be even on the same scale!

If you're trying to create a military where people have to depend on each other for their lives, it's awfully hard if there is animosity between those that you are trying to train.

And in most countries, just being gay isn't reason for there to be animosity. Why is it here? Why in the world does it matter at all? Why does who someone wants to sleep with have any effect on how that person will be when standing shoulder-to-shoulder with you in battle?

If you want change in the US Military... change in the general populous will need to come first.

Not going to hold my breath until that happens, otherwise I'll turn blue. :P It boggles me, I mean brain-hurtingly boggles me, how much Americans care what other Americans do in their personal lives. If you don't like something, don't agree with it, then don't do it! Why in the world do you care what other people do? ('You' being general people, not you personally.)

Though you might find this shocking... I don't really care. It sort of doesn't shock me. Now and then we agree on stuff! :P I can also see why in the American military there is difficulty, because it's there in America as a whole. It's so amazingly wrong, but it's there.

Bah. This whole subject makes me sad. I wish people would just... 'get over' their issues on this stuff.
