Olympics (dark) humor & WoW
Aug. 17th, 2008 10:08 pmEven at best of times, I have little interest in the Olympics. This time, with it being held in China, I have zero interest. That's probably why I missed the humor in this for so long: Screenshot. Your cursor isn't included in the shot, but I was hovering over the body face-down dead in the water. The hover-text is in the lower right hand corner. (I actually thought they meant Fred, which amused me as well.)
I spent a good hour fishing next to that body, so I got to hear all sorts of jokes. Heehee.
Anyway! I did lots of WoW stuff today, but none of it was interesting, exciting, or fun other than fishing! I found out where FFXI's old-style fishing went! Eeee, that's just how WoW's is, other than you click the mouse instead of hitting enter.
Skilling is sillyfast. Max skill is 300. I started at 20 and in an hour was 150. :D Heehee. (It does get slower as you level, but still that's pretty darned silly.) Man, it's so relaxing and nice (plus it keeps my cat fed!).
Speaking of little Miss Ghost Kitty, she finally has a name. Brightstar, semi-named after my first GarouMUSH character. The character was a werewolf/garou and they all had a human name and a wolf name. She was named Brightspot by some outscast character (metis -- spelling?). I adapted it a little, since stars twinkle in and out and Miss Ghost Cat fades in and out, but when she's visible she's darned bright. So Brightstar!
Before she got a name, I made a fun screenshot: Brightstar and Starbright? Her and her reverse! (She's also 'grown' since then, so she's equal to that other cat's size.)
And lastly, I don't generally consider WoW to be a pretty game, however it does have its moments. Pretty ship and sunset!

Date: 2008-08-18 05:47 am (UTC)Those little circles near the bank? You catch better stuff in them!)
Oh, huh! I had no idea, thanks for the tip!
Isn't it amazing to be able to fish without RL pain? I don't think I ever posted about it, but I fished up two stacks of low level fish for a LS person (the fish were like 30 levels below me), just two stacks and I was in pain all through the next day. 9.9 Wish they'd change the system back... :/

Date: 2008-08-18 06:02 am (UTC)As for the circles.. just keep clicking on cast until the bobber is inside. You'll catch crates that contain all kinds of stuff. Along with fish of course.
You know you can buy, and download, BC from the web site? Just log into the main Wow website, access your account, and you'll have that option.

Date: 2008-08-18 06:56 am (UTC)On one hand it is easy to do and I like that I can tell it: "Craft 400 of these things, I'll be back in a bit." But then on the other hand I think it's a bit too easy. I mean, I did blacksmithing while I still played and ended up getting to the point where I became an Armor Smith and was still going strong and it took little to no effort at all. Just my mount and some time running around in a mining route. It feels too easy and because of that it's way more open than the FFXI crafting market in that getting 300 in something is just like, "Pffft whatever". But I guess that's because there are so many more people on any 1 WoW server when compared to any 1 FFXI server so there are more people who are willing to be lazy and grab ingots and stuff instead of spending the 5 minutes it would take to go farm enough ore to make like twice as many ingots you need.

Date: 2008-08-18 04:23 pm (UTC)To 350, it starts getting expensive.
To 375, it's like 'ouch my wallet and I have to put my mount into hock just to get those last 20 points'.
So yeah, there's a ton of people at 300-350, but not so many at 375 in the non-gathering skills. Also, not everyone has the same recipes/patterns, because there are some you have to do high-end raiding to get (the coolest ones, usually), or grind reputation with certain factions.
So yes, it's easy(ish) to level up your skills, NOT so easy to have all the stuff that people are going to want to buy off of you when you say you're an x (jewelcrafter, blacksmith, leatherworker, etc.)

Interesting how different FFXI and WoW are. For once, WoW actually seems like the more realistic of the two, and usually I'd like that, but... how annoying would it be to be a top level X crafter and still not be able to make everything in your craft? Though I suppose for the market that might be better, since you'd have fewer people trying to sell the same stuff...

Date: 2008-08-18 07:41 pm (UTC)Yeah, I did see that. If I stick with the game, I'll get it. I'm still totally not sure if I will or not.

That's pretty cool! I actually encountered one of those yesterday, but that was before I was fishing so I had no clue what it was. :P
I just noticed that I have to hit level 40 before I can advance further in fishing, so I guess that's next on my list before anything else.
