FFXI-2 (MMO)
Jun. 3rd, 2009 04:55 pmTwo posts in two days! I'm on a roll!
The whole world is talking about FFXIV (FF14), so I should probably post about that, too. I wouldn't want to be kicked off the world!
I'm very torn about it.
On one hand, I don't want to play another MMO ever. I said 'never again' after FFXI and now I'm on WoW, but I mean it! No more!
Related to that hand, I'm not really interested in playing another FFXI-ish game, even if it's only the races that remain the same between the two games (and I don't believe that).
Semi-related to that, I do not trust SE. Period. They claim 14 will have soloing content in it, stuff that you can get done in "40 minutes" (why 40? that's an odd number to use as an example). However, they claim that now about FFXI as well. Unless this game lets you reach the highest level while soloing (fairly soloing, not FFXI BST or BLM soloing), AND lets you do all missions, quests, etc solo, then I am not interested in it.
Now, on the other hand... it's FFXI. A fresh start! And, while I have no interest in putting another five years into a MMO, especially one made by a company I do not trust... it's tempting. (Why's it tempting? I don't know!)
Related to that hand:

Eeeee! It's me! My character model, hair, hair color, everything! Just seeing that picture is enough to make me want to check it out.
When word was it would only be supported on the PS3, I had zero interest in it -- I would not buy another gaming system for just one game (like I have five times before!), but... it's for PC as well.
*sigh* I hope I can be strong and not even buy it just to see what it's like, I do not trust SE and I don't want to get hooked again, but... but...

Date: 2009-06-04 12:09 am (UTC)I think that's a fair enough request. Given their recent workings with FFXI and attempts to get it to more of a solo/low party game I'd expect solo to be easier and be able to get, if not max level, at least very high.
AND lets you do all missions, quests, etc solo, then I am not interested in it.
Honestly to me I think that won't happen. It's SE, it's all about the storyline and it's an MMO so it's all about other people. A lot of the game will be more solo oriented but I think it will be closer to a 50-50 with solo vs group events. As opposed to current day FFXI where it's like 20-80 solo vs group.
I'm going to give it a fair shot. I am also going to use it as an excuse to get a newb PC (muwahahaha) but I mean, it's probably going to be one of the MMOs that stands a chance in getting my attention. I feel like FFXI is kinda out staying it's welcome now and it's almost time to move on (perfect timing for me with FFXIV). So, it's probably going to be the closest thing to an FFXI experience I can get. I hope it's not too WoW-ized though cause I really didn't like the way WoW makes all you're work almost pointless every 5 or so months and then every year or 2 makes all the work of that last year utterly pointless by raising the level cap.
Oh well, if this falls through at least I have Star Wars: The Old Republic to fall back on as far as MMO's go! Hurray Star Wars!

Agreed, which will probably be the killing point for me. While it is fun to work with friends, I do not want to be required to do so. I do not want my progress to be held hostage to being able to get 5 other people to work with me.
And yay new computer! I'd probably have to get one as well, but that's not a bad thing!

Date: 2009-06-04 03:50 pm (UTC)I like doing things with friends, but that should be my choice, it should not be forced on me.

Date: 2009-06-04 04:59 pm (UTC)Unless you count selling items. Then it wasn't.
I think the only times I actually interacted with people were my friends, and the time I joined a player-run city.
And technically, The Sims Online you could do solo. Considering it was essentially an interactive chat room though, that would suck.

Date: 2009-06-04 06:37 pm (UTC)These walrus people ones are awfully nice (easy and 500 rep each for only three of them!). I hope whichever one I do next is just as nice.

Date: 2009-06-04 07:09 pm (UTC)That's kinda how I'm seeing FFXIV ending up, except with more of an SE flare on it so more of a focus on storyline and storytelling instead of how WoW works on it's "story"...I guess it's more like a mythos at this point in time though.

Date: 2009-06-04 10:30 pm (UTC)And I'm glad you commented! I thought I had you on IM, but I guess not. Beanie is totally wrong on that CTY comment. The '2 AF limit' rule applied only to non-freelot stuff. Beanie hates that rule, so she says it the way she wants it to be. Remember Fawk? He used to walk away with 6 or 7 AFs per night, and the rule never changed since then. I called her on it once and she attacked me for it. 9.9

*snickers* Still under construction, huh? That shouldn't amuse me as much as it does.
