Sad... sort of. (FFXI)

Lottery ended today. I actually did a lot better than last year (two rank 4 prizes, took hides -- last year I got nothing). And, as planned, as soon as it ended I canceled my content IDs.

It's funny, for the last two months it's been bugging me that I couldn't cancel (I had almost never logged on other than to buy the lottery marbles) but I was still sad to do this tonight.

I'm happy that I'm not leaving with bad feelings, no "give me my five years back! D: ". In a way I wish I could still love the game, but in a bigger way I'm very happy I don't anymore.

I would have enjoyed giving my stuff away, but people who quit always kick themselves for doing that when they come back. I fully intend to never return... but everyone who quits says that.

I wish I wasn't sad over this. I've been wanting to cancel my account, and it's not like I can't come back (for the low low low price of $30! Or whatever the figure they gave was). And not only was I not logging on, I didn't want to log on... so there's no reason to feel sad.

Still: Blah.

Goodbye, FFXI. It was a good five years.

I wasn't really intending to sell Thistle, but I was curious how much cash I could get for him. For all his gil (a few million), 5 75 jobs, and all his crafting mules... they wanted to give me under $30 ($28 and change). I laughed!

That can't be right... A friend who quit some months back sold his acct with no 100 crafts and only a couple jobs to 75 and he got something like $480 for it. Wtf?

Anyway, all that aside, sad to see people leaving.

No, this was to a company, despite my suggestions to the contrary. He got 4 new tires for his car and a few other household things from the proceeds. It's a personal call, but I would just delete my character out of existence before I'd sell it.

Yeah, I wouldn't really sell (goes back to the 'what if I ever want to come back?' issue), but I can see where people would. All that time and work put into it, might as well get something out of it if you no longer care.

If I were ever certain I was going to sell my character I would spend the money to server transfer him and make sure his name was taken on another server and then change the name so that it erases all connotations with me and it makes it look like I just quit and didn't sell the character.

I've been feeling like that too, and I might do it ^^; I haven't logged in for more than 2 days in a row in almost a year now, so yeah ^^; Still I'm a big old wuss when it comes to cancelling stuff like this! So yay you :)

I don't really get a lot of enjoyment out of FFXI anymore, but every time I decide to quit I start missing it, so I log back in and run around the starter cities for a while soaking in the nostalgia :p

This kinda reminds me of when I broke up with my first boyfriend. We were together for almost three years, but it just wasn't working anymore. And even though I knew it was the right thing to do, I still felt like utter crap afterwards.

That's exactly what I was comparing it to in my head: A relationship that just doesn't work anymore. You don't hate the other person, but you two being together just isn't the right thing anymore.

I added you to my friends list when I used to play FFXI. I quit when my WHM hit 57. It just wasn't interesting to me anymore.

I did give all my gil to a friend on-line, it was only about 500,000. Not much. A few months ago, I did just want to visit Vana'diel for a quick nostalgia revisit. But, they delete your character after six months of inactivity. So, I said, "never again."

Oh well.

They have a new "service" now. For $15 or so for the first character (and additional money for each mule), they'll restore your character at any time.

I still wouldn't go back. ;)
