Am I playing for the wrong team? (WoW)

Bored, I rolled a human character today. That The Craft Of War: Blind video strongly tempted me towards a rogue, but I figured warrior would be easier for a throw-away character.

Little did I expect to fall in love.

I'm guessing that warrior (so hard not to call it "WAR") is easier pre-10 than many other jobs? Hunter I semi-struggled and druid was an all-out chore. Warrior? Easy as pie. On top of that, quests around the human starting town are so much easier! Everything's so darned close! Both of my previous two characters were tauren, which means running 47875017 miles for every single quest. Even getting to Stormwind was a short run!

And Stormwind! My first time on WoW having a real connection with a city. Org never did anything for me. I hate Cliche Bluff Thunder Bluff. Undercity needs to be burnt to the, um, ground (underground?). Silvermoon City? Meh. But Stormwind! It's so pretty! And the statues! And everything's so white and clean and bright! And there are eee pretty horses everywhere!

Only thing I didn't like was the players. I know one day isn't enough to judge things on, but wow, the Ally side seems so much less mature (yes, the Horde is far from a mature group, but from what I saw today, Ally is a lot worse). And man, they fight so much! Every town I entered, every darned wide spot in the road, had a duel going on. I wanted to shake the whole lot of them and tell them to get along.

It's kind of very rough starting out 'alone' (my druid had 96 bag slots when he started and as much gold as he needed), but I can't get stuff across the fraction line to my human. Luckily I made 3 gold signing up for peoples' guilds. Good money for a starting player!

But seriously, wow. Warrior feels like a machine. It's a little annoying to lack a healing ability, but I kill things so fast!

I tried to get a good screenshot of him, but the sun was already going down so everything came out too dark. Tomorrow!

It's because Blizzard secretly has a hard-on for the alliance. That explains why they get everything cool. Then when horde gets something cool alliance just bitch and complain until they get it as well! But nooooo, horde isn't allowed to play with the alliance's cool toys! It's like they made the basics of WoW and fell in love with their own awesomeness, from this awesomeness the alliance was born, then they needed someone to fight. So, they scrapped out the last of the awesome from the awesome-pot and boom, horde was born. Although still awesome, a far cry from the first serving of awesome-pasta. Also the alliance have seasoning and parmesan cheese!

Fuck now I want spaghetti! Damn you alliance!

I guess that makes Rogue's like...the vegetables of WoW. They kinda get in the way but you can brush them aside if you have to or hide them. But then your mom says you have to take care of the rogue to get desert and sometimes the broccoli wins. Then you hit 55 and you're like, "Mmm chocolate cake!" but everyone else has chocolate cake and the people who are lactose intolerant are like, "Pfft chocolate cake is for newbs! I'm going back to my tofu based pudding!" and then the fucking broccoli shows up again! Gah!

I don't know where I'm going with this...

I've heard that before! Once or twice I've heard that it's the Horde they love, but most of the time it's the Alliance. I think the evidence is that Alliance gets the pretty, pretty ponies!

What we've found as Deneo and Eridril with getting set up on a new server is to grab two gathering skills and focus on upping your bag space asap. The 6 slotters can be bought from a vendor for really cheap. Then go around the starter area plundering all the nodes and stick them up on the AH and use the funds raised to buy the 16 slotters.

I prefer getting traveller's backpacks if they're cheap (10-15G) since it means I can send them to an alt once I outgrow them.

Anyway, at 40 we're sitting on 600+g without having to do any farming or working the AH.

As for warrior, the lack of heals is very annoying if you don't have a pocket priest like I do (<3 Chipo). Get your first aid up pronto!

Yeah, I don't understand why new people would take non-gathering skills. I do skinning/herb on every character. (Sometimes I get curious about mining, but skinning rocks because you're killing stuff anyway, and herbs are everywhere while mining nodes seem only here and there).)

Mining is very lucrative. =) And with the new patch coming the high end metals are going to be in HUGE demand.

I gave up mining for Engineering, and I won't go back, but wow...I miss it. So fun to fly around and mine the nodes in Ice Crown. Between it and Jewelcrafting I made a TON of gold.

I've been playing an Alliance lately because my Horde guild is near dead, and I dunno where else to go, so I joined the server of an old friend.

Right now, I'm switching between my Human mage and my Draenei shaman. Both are fun! I also have a Draenei paladin and DK, and a couple NEs.

It's a nice perspective.

And yes, Alliance is almost always less mature than Horde. >_> Dunno why.

And I'll agree with the person above me, mining and skinning for money making.

Herb gathering I've always found meh. Mining is a good profit because there's a lot more professions that use the mining stuff.

Having leveled a warrior.. I found it gets worse. Started off good, but that lack of healing proves a real chore later on.

Now.. I don't know if they've improved warrior leveling since I did it, for I did it even before Paladins got a boost, but I HATED the fact I had to rest after every damn fight. Kill one mob, rest, kill, rest.. :P

Get used to carrying half an inventory of food and bandages. You'll need it.

This is why warrior still isn't 80. I hate leveling her. I've literally been leveling her two dailies at a time. It's just less hassle for me.

I leveled a warrior to about 24 once -- it was pretty smooth, but you might also seek out Energon's thoughts on the matter. I think he has a warrior and loves it. =)

Ya I leveled warrior up to about 67 I think and once I hit about 58 or the beginning of outlands it just started to slow way down and it got way to hard to kill stuff and I would need to rest a lot. This was probably due to my horribly gimp gear but it still wasn't any better even after I upgraded to at least decent BC quest gear.

Ya that's one of the main downfalls of WoW I think. I mean, if I want to be a Tauren Mage, who cares if I would be kinda gimp and I'd hate to work harder to get the best gear and be the smartest about the job to do average? I payed to buy the game and I payed to keep playing it, I should be able to play any combination I want. It's annoying.

Totally and 100% agreed. I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around the 'one character, one job' thing too. Some guy named himself Leetmage or something stupid like that, and every time I see him I keep wondering how he could have named himself that -- what if he plays some other job?

I'm now on like day 33 or so of WoW, and the initial starting difficulty vs later ease is quite variable both across the classes and across your play style.

I found my Human Paladin MUCH easier from 1 to 40 than 40-74. Whereas the Dranei Shaman I started is slow going now (23) but I hear kicks butt around 40 or so.

The first time through she was a bit of a chore to level however I suspect that knowing what I do now I'd probably burn through it were I motivated.

That's the thing -- hate leveling. So. Much. =)

The biggest advice I can give a burgeoning Shaman - Totems Totems Totems! And don't forget your weapon imbues. I didn't really start using totems until I got much higher level, and it was dumb of me. They are amazing.

Yep to both! The humans are pretty strange looking though, all chunky, and their calves are so muscular they're wider than their heads.

Eh, I think the immaturity is pretty much the same both sides, and even if that's not the case, I'm betting it will even out after the faction transfer goes live. Tons of people play both factions, so if they're obnoxious on one, they'll be obnoxious on both. There's just a lot of stupid players in general.

Hmm, I've honestly not had a single bit of trouble leveling any class other than rogue to 10. I haven't done paladin or warrior at all and I've only done shaman in a group, but the others that you think are hard I haven't had a problem with.

I'm glad you've tried Alliance now, though. I think the factionism that goes on OOCly is stupid. Both factions are fun and it's interesting to get the other side's perspective with quests and such.

I have to disagree with your wishing every race could be every class. The game keeps getting more and more homogenized as it is. It's neat that there are some individual differences in things, and when you consider the lore, there are a lot of combinations that would make no sense. For example, all the night elves that were using arcane magic were kicked out thousands of years ago. They became the high elves, most of which subsequently became the blood elves after Arthas attacked Silvermoon City. Night elves are completely against using arcane magic and consorting with demons because they caused the cataclysm that destroyed most of the continent and caused the Maelstrom to form when they used it before. So it would make absolutely no sense for them to be mages or warlocks. That's just one example.

Blizzard has done some retcons, but remember, they're working with the lore of three previous games in WoW. They haven't just made up the game out of nowhere, it's part of a world they've been building for fifteen years.

I think part of the issue is just how much I hate XPing. I have an hour-ish a day to XP, and what did I do today? One single quest. If I just buckled down and concentrated on it, it might be easier.
