I keep meaning to sit down and write about this (as well as Hunter PvP in WoW) but I keep not having time for a long, thoughtful post.

The short version: Some of the best book(s) I've ever read! I'm still just on the first one, but I'm so very in love. Every single character is so perfect and real! And, somehow, in just a matter of words, the book pulls me so fully in! I wish I had more than an hour a day to read.

But that's not the point of this post! Eeeeee, I'm so excited about the news on the Game of Thrones HBO miniseries! Among great, great casting, the production team is the same one that did Rome and John Adams! Two of the most beautiful, well done miniseries in a while!

If you've not been following the casting news, Sean Bean is Eddard, Mark Addy is King Robert, Peter Dinklage is Tyrion (eee!).

My friend and I once had a short exchange about the upcoming Game of Thrones miniseries that I think you'll appreciate. It went like this:

Him: "They're making 'A Game of Thrones' into a miniseries.
Me: "... ... HOW?!"
Him: "They're doing the short version. They're going to take ten fluffy kittens, and hit them with a sledgehammer."

I love the books too, but sweet heaven, the misery.

OMG.

SO. Fucking DEPRESSING.

It took me years to get through the Fionavar Tapestry. I gave up for a LONG time when what's her name got captured by the big-bad (Maugrim something?) and we learned what had been happening to the elves.

Once I /did/ finish it I was damn impressed.

I don't think I'm far enough in to see much of the misery yet! There was a worrying time when poor Tyrion was stuck in the cell high up in the mountain, one wall opening to the long drop down, but yay as of where I stopped tonight, he's free! Other than that, there's the whole brother thing... "I'd let his 50,000 men and their horses rape you if it got me my throne...".

Oh god, YES. I had no idea!

The third book is my favorite (no spoilers, don't worry), but they get better and better as the story progresses. The level of depth in the world is amazing, because that's exactly it - they're real. Every single character is helplessly flawed, and you will hate and love every single one by the end.

Yes, finally! I don't know how I missed the books this long! Books three and four just arrived from Amazon tonight, even though I'm still just halfway through one. :D I can't wait to catch up!
