So much for overnight shipping on the new TV. Of course it need someone to be home to sign. However I, like many folks, work during the day, so I wasn't home when they came. I called them and had them hold it so I can just pick it up myself at the FedEx station tomorrow.

Guess I get out of having to attempt to set it up tonight...

Ya I never understood why shipping companies do that. I mean, I get why they wouldn't leave a TV box outside your house or whatever but why show up in the middle of the day? I mean people are at work. I guess it would probably be too much to ask for people to work from like noon till 9pm or something so they can actually deliver stuff when people are home.

FedEx drivers are already usually working 12-14 hour days. They are contractors, not employees, and they have to get as many of the packages on their truck out as possible during the day. Your scenario would have them delivering things in the middle of the night, which certainly seems like no improvement.

I recently ordered a laptop for myself, and they had in their FAQ that they require signatures. I ended up putting the shipping address as my work. It didn't occur to me until afterwards that my work may frown upon that! I asked my boss, she said that she wasn't sure but thought they did, so she asked our head purchaser who said people do it all the time.

Granted, there's a big difference between a laptop and a TV. Just a minor comparison story. =p

And many folk do not work during the day. 9-5 jobs aren't necessarily the norm anymore. Additionally, the time your packages are delivered is based upon your geographical location within the driver's route. You just happen to be in an area where the driver has to deliver earlier in the day in order to get his/her route finished. Others do get their stuff delivered in the evening.

As a word of advice, whenever possible when using Fedex, have it shipped via Home rather than Ground. Home's work week is Tuesday through Saturday, so you can arrange to have a Saturday delivery when you're home.
