In my whole online life, the idea of a group with no standards to join generally doesn't work for me. MU*s, linkshells, guilds, all the same. My current guild works off the "Hey, I got a friend, okay for him to join?" idea. This brings a lot of crap into too-close contact with me.

I was just called a cowards. Because I didn't want to run an instance. I never run instances! I'm on WoW to fricking RP!

The guild has three 12 year olds in it. 12! I boggle that someone that young can even function, let alone get on the net and figure out how to get onto WoW. (Bit of an exaggeration, but not all that much.)

12 years old. That's a good deal less than half my age. *rubs head* (Not all young people are bad, of course. We have two good 17 year olds in the guild... but there's a big difference between 12 and 17.)

I have such a headache. Back to work RL, plus I get endless IC crap. People ICly (and OOCly) hate our guild, so they generally attack our members for no reason. Tonight my poor little rogue (who isn't a fighter) got jumped by 8-12 big melees (DKs, warriors, etc). Overkill! Fricking hell!

I have such a headache. I like it when a guild/linkshell is like a family or good friends, where everyone gets along and helps each other. This fricking guild has one member who is a rabid "OMG YOU MUST DO THIS AMOUNT OF DPS OR YOU'RE UNFIT TO LIVE!". He endlessly bites members' heads off about talent/gem/armor/whatever the fuck crap. This is a RP guild! Not a raid guild! *froth* I do not want to hear that crap! That's the exact thing that would drive me away.

Ranty McRant Rant. Why can't people just be nice to each other?

12 year olds don't really "function" in the normal sense of the word as people. They more or less just exist and do whatever they happen to be doing at that moment. Time is irrelevant to them and there is no past, present, or future and thus no consequences for any actions that take place.

*goes back to Dragon Age*

I'd totally buy that.

I was running D&D and other paper and pencil RPGs when I was 12. =) Not every 12 year old is a vapid twit. That said -- sounds like your guildies need to chill the fuck out.

As to rogues not being fighters, that's your own choice, I've seen many rogues do amazing DPS. =) Even so, nobody does enough DPS to beat 8-12:1 odds. Well, maybe Gandalf or Conan, but not many.

The instance thing makes little sense though, presumably they should know you don't like them...then again, I can see asking a guildie for help too, so there you go. Calling you a coward was more than a little assinine -- was it one of the 12 year olds by chance?

As to your rabid guildie -- my solution would be to buy a set of RP armor, and gem/enchant it all with +spirit because 'the sparkly blue gems are so pretty'. That will probably give him an aneuryism on the spot as he rages. =) Pure win.

You're not thinking evil enough.

Lustrous. Sky. Sapphire.

On a rogue.

If you REALLY want to give him a stroke as well as throw a lot of money at uselessness for yourself, make it Lustrous Majestic Zircon.

Oh, I meant ICly! He's more concerned with saving his own skin than anything else. :)

And ha ha ha, I love that idea!

One of my guild leaders posted a ToC 10 run, and every time he posts he says not to bother if you weren't geared. So I always declined.

And then they desperately needed a healer.

When someone new wants me to do DPS, they ask me what my DPS is. I always say "I don't know. You can either take me, or I'll keep going about my business." I will tell anyone, even my guild leaders, that I don't care about numbers. In fact, the one time one of them had me come out to a target dummy, my Ambien was kicking in so I don't even remember what he told me I was doing. Let alone if I was doing all I could.

That happens to me too! Apparently everything about my gear sucks, all my weapons are "ghetto epics", and all this other crap... yet when they need someone, they still ask me to go. WTF? I don't want to go, you all think I suck, yet when you need someone...

XD The other thing about parses is that they don't see everything, especially in regards to healers.

My guild leader told me that a number of people complained that it was my fault that we were wiping on things because I had the lowest HPS. Discipline priests are about damage mitigation, so that's what I did. Guild leader knew it, but seems most people in the guild didn't understand discipline priests. I still continue to be brought to raids as a healer. Go figure!

No doubt you're brought to the raids because your GM isn't a moron and understands that disc works through mitigation. I'm continually amazed by the stupidity exhibited by some people...though not knowing disc priests mitigate isn't quite as bad as the hunter I ran into who wouldn't use his pet...

Hunter...that wouldn't use pet...

That's like a druid that wouldn't use forms. D= Incredibly stupid and doesn't know how to play.

But yeah, my guild leader is awesome. I'm the only disc priest in my guild, but she's also a priest so she knows what each spec does at least.

And now you know why I don't like being in a guild. Closest thing I'd consider is the one Cid and One from FFMux are in. I'm just not a guildperson. At least I can turn off the channels if they get to spammy.

I like guilds, I just want a good one. Something with standards, where people are nice, without "lol" all over the place... It has to exist somewhere!

Funny how in love I was with Shadewind when I first joined it.

When I was around 12, I played a few MUDs, and the guilds I was in had no idea how old I was. Most had policies against < 18y.olds, but I didn't say anything about my age, and noone asked. Everyone assumed I was early-twenties. But then, I always caught shit at school (even from teachers) for being way too mature for my age. Now in my late 20s, I get shit for being a crotchety old man. My girlfriend finds it adorable when I growl at obnoxious children to go away (I yelled at some neighborhood kids to get off my lawn once, and I nearly died laughing afterwards).

People who behave like the spastic pre-teens in your guild don't change much because they get older.
