Pizza rec!

It had been about eight years since I had last ordered Domino's pizza. It was horrible stuff, about the lowest quality pizza you could get. So, when I saw the new commercials "We know our pizza sucks! We've improved it!" I just snickered and rolled my eyes and figured it was meaningless.

Then I saw a post on my flist saying they tried the new pizza and it was good. Not just better, but good. Hm.

I have no good pizza around me. Delivery is basically just Pizza Hut and one local Mexican pizza place (seriously, the pizza comes with packets of hot sauce...). So I decided to try it.

Bad first impression: Trying to order online took me 20 minutes and the site had countless errors. When I finally, finally seemed to make it work and tried to submit my order, it told me there was an error and I had to call in my order. At least it gave me the phone number in the error! ...the wrong phone number.

Eventually I got my order placed, and in a half-hour or so the pizza arrived. My first complaint was an odd one for delivery pizza: It was too hot! Fresh out of the oven hot. Impressive!

Once it cooled enough not to remove a layer of skin from the roof of my mouth, I ate a slice. Not only was it better than it had been, it was good. Then I got to the crust at the end of the slice. OH MY GOD, best stuff ever! So garlic-y and good! I couldn't seem to taste the garlic flavor much on the part of the slice with the cheese and toppings, but I gobbled up every last bit of that crust! (Usually I'm the type who leaves the outside crust behind on my plate.)

So, if you're lacking in good pizza, you might want to give Domino's a try. It's not the best pizza on the planet, but it's darned good for delivery and much better than any frozen pie I've had.

I was talking with [livejournal.com profile] kelen about this very topic just the other day, see, we live about 400 feet from a Dominoes. They could WALK our delivery over! Alas, their pizza was awful in the past, I wouldn't feed it to a dog I didn't like. =) They have good wings though, really like their wings.

Anyway, might try ordering from them now, I have to give them credit for their new commercial -- the comments 'sauce tastes like catsup' and 'crust tastes like cardboard' were comments I personally made in the past. Takes heart to advertise your former failings and then take steps to try and correct them.

Oooh, I've never tried their wings! To be honest, I never tried any wings until a couple months ago, then I didn't have them again until a week or two ago... now I'm in love with them! So bad for you though, all skin and just a little meat. So good though, mmmmmmmm.

Hope you enjoy it, if you do try it!

I just had a Domino's Pizza at lunch for work this week. I never HATED Domino's but it wasn't my favorite delivery pizza by any means.

I think I shouldn't have gone with the 'Hearty Marinara' sauce though, as it was too chunky for me and I ended up giving the last four slices to co-workers.

Pizza Hut is still my favorite chain store pizza, and Freschetta my favorite frozen.

I think 'Hearty Marinara' came with mine by default, but luckily I didn't notice any chunks in it (I hate chunks in my tomato sauce!).

On one hand, I do really like Pizza Hut. The problem with it is it almost always makes me sick (too greasy) and it's damned expensive ($30 to have a medium pie with one topping and one single order of bread sticks delivered).

Freschetta thin crust used to be my favorite, then I discovered that I like the store brand better. Wacky!

I think default sauce is actually tomato sauce! I had to choose hearty marinara. I guess I'll just go for tomato sauce if I do again.

Oooh! Maybe that's the case! Yeah, do try the default sauce. It wasn't great, but it was fine/normal/good.

Pizza Hut's normal prices are atrocious; I agree, but right now they've got the deal where you can get any pizza for $10. Any size, any crust, any toppings.

Okay, done advertising now.

Huh! I hadn't heard of that deal. Man, I love their crusts, too. Mmmm, fried/greasy goodness.

Bah to Pizza! I have been won over by the all powerful Panzarotti! *nom nom nom*

*never heard of that word, googles* What's the difference between that and a calzone? Looks like the same thing?

From: [identity profile] veloxe.livejournal.com
Looks like the difference is mainly that the Calzone is baked where as the Panzarotti is fried.

:o Oh, frying would make it even better! Mmm.

Huh.

Like [livejournal.com profile] pomr and [livejournal.com profile] kelen I have a Dominos easily within walking distance of me, but the pizza has been horrible and greasy, to put it mildly. I guess now, I might have to give it a try. Not only are they close, but they tend to be the cheapest around. o.o

Mine was not as cheap as I thought it would be (deal was $5.99 per pizza for two mediums with two toppings... so how did it come out to $19 delivered? HELLO high delivery charges!) but still, it was worth it. I'm looking forward to heating it up tonight and seeing how it reheats (I'm one person! I can't eat that much pizza in one sitting!).

Hope you like it too!

Y'all have Papa John's out there? They were my favorite of the chain places, but they might be strictly East Coast, or maybe Midwest and East Coast. (Right now I'm on a no-pizza diet until the gall bladder is taken care of and probably for a while after that.)

We do, but they don't deliver to me, grrr! I live smack dab in the middle of Silicon Valley, it's insane that they won't deliver!

The new Domino's crust reminded me of them though. It tastes just like PJ crust after you dip it into the garlic butter sauce... just not dripping in grease!

From: [identity profile] kamalloy.livejournal.com
Huh, weird that they wouldn't deliver in a very populated area.

There's no Domino's near my house at all. There's a Papa John's, a Pizza Hut, and a couple of local places that specialize in various forms (wood-fired, coal-fired, etc.)

From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
Yeah, I have real delivery issues, but it's really strange because this is a very populated area...

Condolences on the gall bladder. I apologize in advance for the TMI moments.

I had mine out at the ripe-old-age of 26. I was never one to eat greasy food before, as my parents both had theirs removed while I was growing up. But after the surgery, it still amazes me the food I eat that I know isn't greasy or fatty yet still makes me rush to the bathroom. Even having almost 2 years to adjust, I get caught off guard because a taco salad with grilled chicken demands usage of on-site facilities before I've even paid the bill. My parents told me a good bit of what to expect, but as someone who pays close attention to what their body says/does, I was quite surprised at the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) differences. Trying to leave out the grosser details, let me just say that, no matter the diet, you will notice that a significant step in your digestive process is suddenly missing.

That said (and after reading, I realized just how negative I was being), it is really nice to be able to eat and not have severe abdominal cramps for 12 hours following the meal because I stole a few french fries. The surgery was a breeze, as surgeries go, and I was at 80% within 3 days, 100% in 2 weeks. The only real lifestyle change I've had to make is acute awareness of restroom locations, and vigilance+caution during road trips.

But as a proper southerner, I still really miss fried chicken.

Yeah, I've heard about that, though it's definitely the part that no one likes to mention. I think, however, that I'll take sudden need to use the bathroom over horrible abdominal pains and chance of future infections. I'll try to be as careful as I can but also prepare for adjustments and note where the nearest restrooms are. Thanks.
