WoW: Drips and drabs

It's official! Cata is coming out on December 7th! :D :D :D Day before my birthday, eeeee!
So, December 7th... I think that will be long enough to make one pre-Cata goal, but the other is more random so it's harder to guess.
My first pre-Cata goal, for no real reason, is getting 100K gold. I keep getting close, but mini-Keen is sucking out a lot of funds. His fast flying set me back 4.5K. D: Also, my AH markets are deader than dead. But still, I need about 11K and have two months to do it. Should be fine.
Second goal is to have a whole guild bank tab full of the two XP items that come from fishing (sealed poison and waterlogged recipe). I now have five alts who do fishing dailies, and the wonderful
chryseth has been sending me his, so I'm getting close (about two-thirds full)! Also, I started buying them at the AH, though that had been originally against my rules. (I decided that was a silly rule. I'm all for tossing gold at XP and rep!)
In Brewfest news, big-Keen got yet another kodo this morning. Current count:
Keen (mount collector) - Kodo x3!, Shanker x2!, Ram (97/100 mounts!)
Haken: Kodo, Shanker, Tankard
Crowfeathers: Ram
Thack: Remote x2, Shanker, Tankard

Date: 2010-10-04 05:03 pm (UTC)Now, with Cata coming out, would be the best time in the world to start farming and gathering stuff to sell when it does release, but I don't even know where to begin! I'm so pathetic. -_-;

I think you're probably right about that. I think raw mats are probably selling better right now (I deal in finished products, unfortunately). I suspect ores, herbs, cloth... maybe skins/leather might move well for all the new characters who are going to want to powerlevel their professions.

Date: 2010-10-04 09:01 pm (UTC)Dunno if you ever heard of Markos, from Just My Two Copper, but he used to have a blog that Alex followed all the time. It was on money-making strategies and how to earn a crapton of gold. He used to suggest things like that, especially when new patch was coming out. It worked even more beautifully if you played the PTR, because you knew what was coming up and could specifically start saving and get an edge on the market.
Oh, if only I had the attention span for all that. I envy people with more gold than they know what to do with.

That, or often good raiding guilds won't provide the flasks, buff food, etc. for a raid
Wow, it boggles me that any guild would! In my MMO experience, you better bring food, "flasks" (not called that elsewhere, but generally tools for your job), or you're not getting in.
(And I, like a retard, decided after playing a hunter with mail to repair -- hey, why not then roll two friggin' plate-wearers? Yeah!)
Ha! Plate repair is insane! Happily I have two leather folks, which helps to balance the two mail and one plate 80s.

In general, I wouldn't follow an online guide on making gold because too many other folks could see the info as well. Luckily the vast majority of WoW folks don't want to do research, so they work a little better here.

It's just another aspect of the game! I feel like I couldn't ever raid, I'd stand in fire or forget what order to touch crap in or something like that. So we're just good at different stuff!

Date: 2010-10-04 11:48 pm (UTC)Aye, the "good" guilds definitely expect you to come prepared with what you need, but there's a lot of really carebear guilds that'll just hand out the stuff like it's everybody's birthdays. In those cases I take it... even though it's not what I need to perform my best. If they don't care, I don't care. Heh.

I know exactly what you mean, but he usually doesn't give specifics. His stuff is more akin to teaching someone to play the stock market. Instead of saying, "Go out and do this, and sell it for this, and then do this." he gives the basics. It's helpful stuff, I'm just too lazy to actually implement it...

Oh! That makes sense.

Date: 2010-10-04 11:49 pm (UTC)With some of the Cata stuff that's coming up for guilds, I am going to talk to my guild leader about perhaps providing flasks and food for the core members in the future. With the guild level perk that generates an additional 10% of looted gold specifically for the guild bank we will need something to spend it on other then repairs heh.

Date: 2010-10-04 05:48 pm (UTC)I've never had more than 7 or 8.
And I've made three choppers -- one for a now ex-guildie, one for a guildie, and one for my wife. :)

2x Tankard o' Terror
1x Remote
I still need the ram! ; ;
Time is running out!
At least I got a remote for getting to MC faster and the 2x Tankard for some easy enhancement weapons if I switch before Cata.

Date: 2010-10-05 02:14 pm (UTC)Yeah, I must say that I prefer WoW's money system to the Asian MMOs that have a single currency (e.g. gil from FFXI or kinah from Aion) that goes up into the millions. Spending a million kinah on some item, while I know in my head it's approximately the equivalent of 100 gold in WoW, still feels like OMG MILLION. Spending 100 gold however just doesn't feel as bad.
I suppose it's relative to how rich I'm feeling. I have about 2.5 million kinah on my main character in Aion, whereas I had a lot more (equivalently speaking) in WoW, so maybe that's it.

Yeah, though I don't feel anywhere near as rich as I was in FFXI, though my buying power in WoW is so much more.
