For some odd reason, I've been dreaming about WoW a lot lately. I'm doing almost nothing on the game, just standing in Dal for hours on end, so no idea why I'm suddenly dreaming about it nightly. Most of the dreams are nothing major, but tonight's was really rather yummy and exciting.

In this dream, WoW was real. It was "me" (a physical me, though looking like FFXI Thistle). The world was real, not WoW-cartoonish, yet still I had things like a minimap and I could hover my finger over items to read the popup text about them.

So, in my dream I enjoyed PvP like I used to. It was fun and exciting! Giant open grass fields to "fight" on (I don't think there was any actual blood or killing? Or maybe it was just me who didn't do it). Horde would start at one end of the field and Alliance on the other, and we'd run at each other.

In-game, my Keen character (belf) has a thing for humans. He /flirts with them all the time. In the dream, this "big" human (wasn't too much taller than me, but he was really muscular/wide) tackled me and was holding me down and (darned being at work!) things progressed really rather nicely from there. :)

It was a cool dream for "RP" reasons too -- we couldn't understand each other's languages, but eye contact and gestures and touches communicated everything we needed to say. I'd really love to try cross-faction RP over IM sometime.

An interesting thing this dream brings up is that I'm never RL me in my dreams -- I've not seen myself as "me" in my dreams for many many years, I always look like FFXI Thistle. It should seem strange that I picture myself as a short, young, oriental man, but it doesn't.

Yeah, now that it doesn't use real names anymore, I might have to try that! Though exchanging IM names is spiffy, too.

It doesn't?

I've got PoMR on RealID, and that's either a real name or a bizarrely specific pseudonym :D

Is this a setting that can be changed or something?

Path Of Most Resistance. :)
A nickname given to me by a friend based on my style of playing Magic the Gathering. :) I didn't play to win (though I did fairly often!), no, I played to see my cards come out and do their thing, so I would do whatever it took to keep the game going.

And I see your real name, not sure how I changed mine (or if I did) to show just the email. :)

No, I meant that I see your *real* name. I just didn't want to share it out in LJ. I was under the impression that it always shows real names (or at least the name in your billing info, which if you pay by credit card pretty much has to be real).

I'd love to hide my real name if that were possible. I only added you because you already knew it (or you did five years ago, at least) ;)

Mendicant Annoying Ridiculous Kook -- I could post the last name, but that's on a need to know basis, and Thistle's FList doesn't need to know. I could tell them...

And yes, I knew it already. :) Your name that is. I'm a flake but I'm not that big of a flake.

Oh please! There's no end to your flakiness! :D

I'm flakier than powdered mashed potatoes!

Actually, I typed too fast. There's an option to make it not use your real name, but I believe it uses it by default. Don't ask me where that option is! I hadn't intended to ever use the service, so I didn't pay attention to the posts about it. Maybe google will tell you? Sorry!

I have no idea, I just don't RealID people I don't know pretty well and/or trust. :)

I shall google it up just as soon as I get home and report on what I find!

Buuuuuu...

According to Battle.net the only way to opt out of showing your real name is to disable RealID entirely :(

***************************************
Can I opt out of any Real ID options?

Yes. By default, your real first and last name is visible to the Real ID friends of your Real ID friends. However, you can choose to not appear to these "friends of friends" by toggling the option in Battle.net account management (under the "Communication Preferences" section). You can also choose to not be included in "Add Facebook Friends" search results. You can also disable the Real ID feature entirely.
