thistlechaser: (WoW: Keen)

I don't know if it was because I was having just an awful day, or because I was dehydrated (drank less than a third of what I should have today -- was having such a bad day I couldn't make myself care enough to), or because [livejournal.com profile] elo_sf posted about drinks with empty calories, but darned if I didn't want a Slurpee. Drinking a Slurpee would be really, really bad. Pure sugar, and a whole lot of it. A ton of utterly empty calories. But I want one so badly. I didn't want a shake. I didn't want a soda. I wanted a cold, sweet, icy drink.

I pulled into the 7-11 parking lot lying to myself. I said I'd "just go in and look". Really, I actually said that to myself. I went in, and wonder of wonders, one of the flavors was Crystal Light Strawberry-Banana. Strawberry-banana would not have been my first choice, but Crystal Light! I was saved! I got a big one and boy did it make my day better. A full-sugar one would have just left me depressed and angry at myself all night, but this one was mostly guilt-free! (I know artificial sweeteners aren't good for you, and they do still mess up your body's handling of food, but they're a whole lot better for me than a full-sugar drink would have been!)

I may just go and get another one tomorrow. Such a big, long-lasting treat! It took me two hours to drink the whole thing!

RP: Oh my god, second time saved today! RP IS BACK IN SILVERMOON CITY. So happy! I went there tonight and it was like the old days: I couldn't walk two feet without tripping over a scene! HAPPY. No more endless hours of hateful archaeology to fill my time, I can have fun!

I was so very amused at the first scene I got into. Backstory: My character (Keen) had a "drug" (fel, magic) problem. He spent months getting off it, aided by a very controlling paladin with way too many rules for Keen's liking. Of course they were rules with a purpose. Example: Keen wasn't supposed to go back to his old haunts (namely: SMC).

Tonight Keen broke the rule, went to SMC, and the very first person he met there was a "half-felblood" person. That's what they had listed as their race, ha ha! The person had so much fel in them that it changed their race? :P Lore issues aside, I did enjoy the scene quite a bit. Person was a WoW-average RPer -- not great, but not so awful I wanted to run away and never come back.

He wants to RP with Keen again, and I'm OOCly open to that, but I just worry lots... Keen going back to fel would ruin his life, but... look at RL me. I couldn't even resist a darned Slurpee. Ha. Maybe Keen needs sugarfree fel? :P

Your last paragraph ninja'd my entire reply...

Now my lore knowledge of the butt elves is kinda foggy but wasn't part of the reason they became the way they are now because of the fel magic they used as a supliment for (was it the sunwell?). By that logic I could totally see how someone with such a bad fel magic addiction could get comsumed by it and change into, what would appear like, an entirely different race.

(Yes I'm sure i mangled that lore explaination but I know I'm at least partially right.)

Not mangled! Felbloods are, indeed, blood elves that just sucked (off) too many demons and essentially -become- demons themselves. Thus the term felblood. Yes, it is within lore to play one, but... not in the middle of SMC if you're not going to take any steps to hide it. Same reason I facepalm at people who play high elves in SMC. Yes, High/Blood/Fel are -technically- all the same race with varying levels of taint from the Legion, it's just... High elves hate the Blood elves as much as the Blood elves hate the Felbloods. @_x

So yeah. If you have blue eyes and aren't a DK or if you have green and horns and tails where you're not supposed to... The guards would probably escort the person out of Quel'thalas or throw them in prison. Sadly, the NPC guards can't do that. :/

That would be rather interesting to watch on RP servers heh. "You're RP breaks established canon! To the dungeon with you!"

Good to know I didn't completely destroy that. I remember reading a rather large post with some flow charts in it that basically explained the entire elf ancestry but it is all rather over complicated, which seems to be how Blizz likes it and why the Red Shirt Guy exists.

The dungeons would be SO FULL. :P

Oh! So felblood is actually a real thing, I thought he made up the term. I figured 'wretched' was too boring for him, so he made up felblood. (Are both the same thing? Or two different results of too much fel?)

He had been sitting in the shadows when I found him, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and pretend he snuck in and was avoiding guards. :P

Yup, Felbloods are effectively Blood Elves that joined the Burning Legion. They have scraggly wings and horns (but no tails, that was lorebreaking!) They overdose on demon blood and energy until they physically mutate with demonic traits. This is NOT acceptable to Blood Elves, so Felbloods are kill-on-sight, much like Blood Elves can be to High Elves.

Wretched are the oposite end of the spectrum, they didn't get enough mana and fell into a cycle of wasting away, tormented by their own cravings. Thus their elven-Forsaken kinna look (they do share the same animations and all). They're husks of what they were, truly wretched.

But his tail only appeared when he was excited! :P (I'd really like to know how that works.)

So wait, am I wrong? I thought Keen would become a wretched if he kept up with the fel, it would have been felblood instead? (Wings and horns are cool! Maybe he should go back to it~.)

To my understanding the difference is that felbloods were/are corrupted by the blood of demons (See: Orc lore). Apparently the blood is very addictive and contains great power. It's sort of like the ultimate hit for the magic junky elves I suppose. The wretch thing doesn't seem to be as fleshed out, but basically it looks like a wretch is a blood elf who "snaps" and gives in to their thirst for magic.

Apparently this transformation can happen instantly. The reason I'm not very sure is the things I've been reading isn't clear if it's just the thirst for the magic that causes the transformation (like they snap and then transform), or if after they snap they go and gorge themselves and that causes the transformation.

In RP at least, these things tend to happen slowly. Of course, RP =/= lore... I'd say it makes more sense for it to happen slowly, but this is a world of magic and monsters (and tauren paladins!) we're talking about.

So if felbloods come from drinking blood and not just sucking on fel, I'm still fine with thinking wretched is where Keen would be headed if he kept it up...

Blizz honestly isn't all that clear on -what- makes a Felblood, be it gorging on fel energies or otherwise. Or, at least, if it's completely clarified, I haven't stumbled across it, I admit I haven't done much research on them.

Wretched, however, are most certainly NOT limited to fel intake, like Felblood are. High Elves also become Wretched through non-fel/demonic energies via arcane sources. Wretched are... I guess the best comparison to real life would be to take a look at a meth addict, compared to a pothead.

I asked on channel and got some interesting thoughts (yay strong-lore people!).

There's this quest/A> where you pull fel from a felblood to turn it into a wretched.

There's also a felblood boss in MGT who is surrounded by wretcheds gorging on fel crystals.

So the general thought is wretched comes from not wanting to (or being able to) control your addiction, felbloods are probably psychologically more stable and in control?

So I guess we're back to where we started: Wretched for Keen! (Though hopefully not!)

You see the felbloods up on the rise in Hellfire. They're not, precisely, drinking the blood of those ugly gits up there, but they certainly are directly siphoning off a lot more power than they need to soothe their addictions. I don't think it /requires/ the direct sucking of blood, though I imagine that would really hyperaccelerate the process.

Hee, sorry!

And yeah, that's Keen's problem: He had been using so much fel he was starting to change. That's why he's so sick now, his body is trying to recover from that and return to a normal elf.

Wait a minute...if you're returning to being a normal elf, does that mean your going to switch to alliance and play a night elf? :P

Also, oh god what have I started above!

Sorry to have generated a slurpee craze, luckily I ultimately find them more disgusting than drinkable for my own binges so only can get a sip or two down before trashing.

Hee, I think it was probably not you, no worries! The timing was just amusing.

Yeah, this is the first one I've had in many years. I have no idea why I was craving one when it's not something I'd usually have/want!

YES! YOU DO! Eeee! And Keen has negative willpower, he's going to fall off the wagon and it's going to mess up all his current RP. D:

Controlling paladin had been right! Keen should have stayed and listened!
