If you haven't looked at Google's main page yet, do so! Not only is it fun and relaxing, it's interactive! That little switch on the side moves your view! :D

Dear WoW,

Copying FFXI is a bad decision. Really, it is. Take my word on that.

No love,
Thistle

Switching my archaeology digging to EK means I have to catch the zepp from Org (I'd rather not move my hearth). How many times a day I stand there waiting for the damned zepp to arrive! And then it hit me: It's the same thing we used to have to do in FFXI, waiting for an airship to land. Just stand there, minutes at a time, scratching our asses and waiting for no reason at all.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Taking the portals out of Dal was a bad decision. If they wanted people to spend time in Org instead, they should have made Org more attractive (I don't mean looks-wise, though that would help too). People should want to spend more time in Org, not be forced to.

I dunno if they can really be said to be copying FFXI in this regard. Waiting for the zeppelin/boats is how the game pretty much ran for years before there were any portals of any sort at all.

If anything, FFXI copied them on that part ;)

Unless you count that XI came out 2 years before WoW did. I'm sure someone who'd played games longer then I could trace "waiting for boats" back to EQ or even old DOS games or something.

Either way, oh mah god thistle has become a wrath baby!

The google main page was fun. I was messing with it earlier today and was thinking to myself "Dive dive dive!" as I made it go into the virtual ocean.

Woops! So it was! For some reason I thought WOW came out first. My bad :D

It's because MMO's didn't exist before WoW. Kinda like how FPS didn't exist until Halo. *shakes fist at fanboys*

You could always level up a mage! :D

It is weird, though. Right now, we have portals to Outlands, and the Cata zones...

wait a sec...

For archeology, just take the portal to the Blasted Lands at the mage trainer in the drag. This is in Eastern Kingdoms. Then just don't go into the Dark Portal. Sure, you're not in a city, but who cares, the archeology zones are all over the place. (And this didn't occur to me until I was typing this post.) Also, Vash'jr is in Eastern Kingdoms, though probably even less convenient, but you could portal and swim up and find the flight points back, but that's worse than waiting for the zeppelin.

Yeah, I wasn't being serious that it was copying, more that they both have the same thing -- if FFXI has something, then WoW really shouldn't want it. :P

Yeah, I thought FFXI was older, but I wasn't being serious about copying, more like flippant wording that if FFXI had something, WoW really shouldn't want it.

If by wrath baby you mean I'm unwilling to waste my time to travel, then yeah. :P I have less and less patience with WoW these days.

Yes! Lots of fun. :D

Problem is, to get any benefit from a new mage, I'd have to open a second account and put it there. No way I'm giving Blizz another $15/month.

Yeah, I take the Blasted Lands portal when I have sites down south, but if they're all/most up north than it's a 10 minute rental flight from south to north...

Well I think given Blasted Lands -> Portal -> Org/SW it might actually make more sense to set hearth in Eastern Kingdoms say Undercity than Org. Since they left that other path intact as of when I quit the game in December.

The various cata changes made me see the game for the treadmill it was and I got off, but I wasn't in favor of the changes overall.

Cata has not been a positive change for me. I was bored before it, but I'm annoyed after it. All in all, I'd much rather be bored.

Is the archaeologist 85? You could always take the portal to Twilight Highlands, or, barring that, Vashj'ir! That puts you halfway up the continent.

SE learned a lesson there, at least. All the new zones (Abyssean) are accessed via a Cavernous Maw. There's a teleporter NPC in Port Jeuno who will plop you, for practically free, directly in front of any Abyssean Maw you want. Then once in the Abyssean zone (and they're single-zone areas, using the same map as an existing zone - Konschacht, Tahrongi, etc) then you have 8 teleporters strewn out over the map so you never have to run that far.

In the next update, SE says they're uniting all the Auction Houses into one system, and placing Abyssea-teleport NPCs in all the home cities to reduce Port Jeuno crowding.

Oh snap I hadn't read about that AH thing yet! That's freaking awesome!

The only complaint I have left then is that there isn't a teleport person to take you back to Jeuno from Abyssea (at least that I know of) but with the lowered cost of the scroll of warp it is super easy to just grab one of those before I go anywhere.

Oh god, this means I can hang out in my MH and still be able to get everywhere! Awesome.

My solution for this was to be a DK. It works wonders. :P

I believe that qualifies wrath baby, yes! :P

Plus we all know even if they did put portals in Org, you'd still complain because Dalaran was so awesome and you want to hang out there! Since...well, Dalaran was so awesome and all.

Good idea! Though I generally avoid TH like the plague, it would be at least halfway to the north areas!

Hell my parents played DIKU. I remember them playing DIKU as well! They were old school though, I hear stories about magazines full of binary that would take a weekend to type out and then the program would play like, pong.

Sometimes I wish it were still old school...

Yeah, DK (and mage) are great choices for archaeology. However, you also want your archaeologist to be your alchemy person... so that stuck me with Keen the hunter. He's a good choice in general (+movement speed and a pet makes any aggro a joke), it's just the lack of a death gate/mage portals that hurt him.

Sometimes I dream that Blizz will give all classes portal spells. Then I wake up. :P
