Okay, so it's not ME Google hates...
Sep. 2nd, 2015 07:34 amYesterday I posted about Google challenging me (on my work computer) because they didn't think I was a person.
This morning I came into the office and opened Firefox. google.com is my home page.
Instead of Google I got:
"You're seeing this page because the website you tried to access may be hosting viruses or other malicious software. This site is blocked to protect your computer and the [company] network."
Apparently my company and Google are having a spat!

Google doesn't love me anymore...
Sep. 1st, 2015 10:27 amA fandomsecrets secret used the word outercourse, and I wasn't sure if it was a real word or not, so I decided to google it.

I have never, ever been CAPTCHA-challenged on a google search before. o.O
( Image back here. )
Wacky. Maybe something is up with our work network or something...

Recall how yesterday I posted about the Internet Wayback Machine not having archived a site I was looking for? Well it turns out Google is better than the Wayback Machine. I've never seen this feature mentioned before, I found it by chance.
Google archives stuff!

At the end of the URL, there's often a little arrow. Click it and you get a 'cached' option. I found lots of stuff I had thought was lost!
And in more amusing, less helpful screenshots: I decided to make a DW journal just to back up my old IC LJ one I had rediscovered, so I trotted over to their site and went through the process of making a DW account...

Um...
And, as you can see from my images in this post, I have a new FTP tool. I love WinSCP, it's exactly what I was looking for!
And lastly: So very very tired. I've not gotten more than a couple hours sleep for three nights now. Darned upstairs neighbors. I swear to god, who moves furniture at 11 PM? Especially when they also get up at 4 AM? Are there two of them? One noisy late and the other early? Blah.
My eyes are killing me, too. I've spent so many hours reading these IC journals and RP logs, my poor old eyes just can't take that anymore.

Something positive
Feb. 14th, 2014 07:43 pmIf you skipped over Google's homepage today, you should check it out.
Especially if you like stories.
Especially if you listen to NPR.
The homepage is hosted by Ira Glass (This American Life on NPR -- long stories about people), and the stories are just like the StoryCorps segments on NPR (very short stories about an event in a person's life).
In addition to recommending the Google page, I highly recommend checking out StoryCorps (though a warning: Some of the stories will probably make you cry). This American Life is great, too.
I was all stressed out today and just didn't have the time to explore the homepage. Now I'm glad I did. Some of the stories are "heavy" (as Ira says -- very emotional, sad), but it's so worth it. A lot of them had me sniffling, but the middle blue one really got the tears flowing. (I'd suggest listening to them in order though!)
Edit: There's a How the Google Doodle was Made video, which is interesting not just for how it was made, but for all the glimpses of what life at Google is like (so many dogs!).

Yay Google! Boo WoW!
Feb. 8th, 2011 08:20 amIf you haven't looked at Google's main page yet, do so! Not only is it fun and relaxing, it's interactive! That little switch on the side moves your view! :D
Dear WoW,
Copying FFXI is a bad decision. Really, it is. Take my word on that.
No love,
Thistle
Switching my archaeology digging to EK means I have to catch the zepp from Org (I'd rather not move my hearth). How many times a day I stand there waiting for the damned zepp to arrive! And then it hit me: It's the same thing we used to have to do in FFXI, waiting for an airship to land. Just stand there, minutes at a time, scratching our asses and waiting for no reason at all.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Taking the portals out of Dal was a bad decision. If they wanted people to spend time in Org instead, they should have made Org more attractive (I don't mean looks-wise, though that would help too). People should want to spend more time in Org, not be forced to.

My LJ so totally almost got a new name! From the odd Google searches in the last post,
veloxe got "what are these strawberries doing on my nipples i need them for the fruit salad". Then I realized that with "nipples" in the window title I really wouldn't be able to look at my LJ from work anymore, so blah!
Other than that, life's going darned good. Sit around home all day, play lots of WoW, and hours and hours of RP! I've been going out for lunch every day too, which rocks. Tomorrow I might even go shopping! To two stores!
Been exercising every day since finally getting Wii up and running. On one hand, BLAH! On the other, ...meh? I can't say I enjoy it, but it's better boxing and doing the Outdoor Challenge "games" than walking or riding my bicycle.
Short post! I'm trying to get all my comments replied to, but LJ has been being a bitch all week and won't load half the time. Sorry for the lateness!
Edit: I forgot the whole second half of my post! I very belatedly finally watched Slumdog Millionaire today. (I started watching it when my mother was here. She likes "movies that win awards", so I figured she might like it, but it was too dark and violent for her so we turned it off in the middle.) I can't say I enjoyed it, but I'm very glad to have seen it. It was dark and violent, but that's kind of the point... I was really happy to have that view into India, especially since I work so much with them at my job. I deleted it off Tivo too quickly, I need to record it again so I can watch it a second time.
I totally loved the end credits, where they all were dancing! It reminded me that I had read that that style of dancing is actually good exercise. I need to look for a DVD or something to see if I can add it into my exercise rotation. (Though I no longer have my PS2 hooked up to watch movies on... suppose I'll need to buy a DVD player and attempt to get it hooked up into the mess behind my TV!)

Why, Google?
Nov. 11th, 2009 10:43 pmFail Blog had this image, but only with the first question. I went to Google to confirm that I was getting that too, and got one just as surprising as #1. Check out #4...

Why indeed? o.O
(If you want to try it, just use Google's autofill. Type 'why' in the search box and do nothing, it'll come up with a list for you.)
Edit: Blah, I'm told that's a line from Lost, I thought it was just totally as random and silly as #1!
