It's so depressing when you finish a really good book and the next one in the series isn't out yet. I've been reading the Gone series (Gone, Hunger, Lies so far), and I just finished Lies this afternoon. It was one of those books so good that I carried my iPad around everywhere with me so I could sneak a bit of reading in every chance I could get. Luckily the next book is coming out in April, but after that it will be a whole year wait for the next... I know I'll like other books this much, but right now there's that old "No book will ever be this good again! D: " feeling.

And on to fruit! I went to the farmer's market this morning, and this time really, really looked at the fruit before I bought it. I was going to get to the bottom of this fruit going moldy issue! And I think I did. I stopped by the orange stand (a booth that sells only citrus, not a little of everything including oranges -- the same booth I went to last week) and I looked them over. Oddly there was white in the indents of the oranges. Not all over them, but in patches. Mold that had been washed off? Last week I overheard the workers talking, and they do wash/wipe down each orange before putting it out to be sold... I looked at the apples, and saw similar stuff. Grapes? Even more clear (cobweb-like stuff between some of the clumps). Maybe the white stuff was something else, like leftover hard water stuff, but maybe not.

I'm going to get some fruit wash next time I see it, and wash everything as soon as I get it home.

From what you described, yeah, I wouldn't have purchased that fruit.

I don't know exactly what the white stuff on the citrus was, but when I see that, I think 'mold' and won't pick it up.

As for cobwebby stuff on the grapes...yes. Definitely 'ew', and not something that belongs there. Could be some kind of insect infestation, that might go away on washing, but not something you'd want to pick up and then leave like that.

Yeah, I'd rather just avoid it than deal with what it might have been and guessing the source of it and such.

Ooooh, this. I'm still sulking about the fact that I finished ASOIAF. I want something to read so badly, but everything just falls short. It's terribly depressing. Those books were a huge chunk of my life for a couple of weeks, and now I have to wait who knows how long for the next one... sigh.

Yeah! But on the plus side, this Gone series I'm loving? I wrote the author last night, and this morning I had a reply back! Eeeee, not only did he reply, but so quickly! :D How cool is that!

Oh wow, that is cool! It's neat to realize that authors of stuff we love are, y'know, real people too. And it's especially nice when they act like it, as opposed to being snobs or aloof or ivory tower.

Yeah! On his site he told a story: Some blogger was interviewing him and she was clearly nervous. He wanted to tell her he was just an "old, fat, bald man" and she should treat him like she would any old, fat, bald man! :P

I'm going to take a wild leap and assume you haven't finished the series yet?

I'm like, 1/3 or so through the first book. Right now she's just a whiny princess and i bugs me. Considering they are all basically pretty young still I figure some of them will get better but still! I just finished the events around the Tourney and there was a glint of something more from her so there is hope.

Aaaah, okay. You've still go a ways to go, then, so I'll keep my mouth shut. My boyfriend's just over halfway through that book and I've been having to really bite my tongue to keep from spoiling things for him, too.

Yknooooow... on one of the ASOIAF forums someone mentioned that doing that's one of the cruelest jokes you can pull on a person. "Hey, you should really read these books! They're fantastic!" And then the person finds out it's a massive cliffhanger and hasn't had an update in six years... *snickers*
