Okay, I think I figured it out. For a long time, it's been pissing me off that people care argue about if a DK can get an erection. (DK = death knight, for non-WoW folks -- dead people brought back to life to fight.) We're working in a world of magic here. A world where people can turn into wolves/cats/birds/bears/fictional animals. We're talking about a place where dead people can be brought back to life. Why in the world would you accept that it's possible for someone to be brought back to life, but the idea that somehow, for some reason, the penis might still work is just way too much for you to buy?

Then it hit me. It's like the near-weekly stories of anti-gay folks being later caught with some young man (or worse). Like this week's Anti-gay pastor arrested for public masturbation while watching young children.

The anti-DK-penis-working group are as rabid, spew as much vitriol, as those in-the-closet anti-gay folks. There's a lot of anti-ERP (cyber, TS, RPing sex) people out there too, I bet a lot of them fall into this category as well.

It's not that I'm pro- or anti- dead things having sex, it's that it's bad RP to say "it shouldn't work for anyone!". If you feel that it shouldn't work on your DK, so be it. If you feel it should, knock yourself out. Not every DK is the same! Some have more flaws than others, some have more strength, some have no ability to speak, some have no memories of being alive. If we're willing to accept all the other differences, why is there so much flailing over a penis working or not?

(Yes, I know that in the real world it takes blood and a pumping heart to get it up, but in the real world dead things do not walk among us either.)

...man, I can't believe I wrote a whole post about the penises of dead things.

I know there was more to this point than penii, and whether or not they could be gotten up, but... I can't help it. I just giggled through the whole post, thinking about penii and their ability (or inability) to be gotten up. It amused me. I'm immature. I know. Hehe.

I saw this earlier this morning and almost posted it! I'm excited too! Especially after his post on LJ. I mean, I'm not gonna hold my breath until he actually says he's finished, but... this is still good. Very good.

In late-breaking news, Blizz has announced that the death knight ability "Raise Ally" ability will become "Raise Penis".

And yes, eee! I sort of believe this date -- if he really wasn't ready, they wouldn't announce it, um, again... right? :P

Teeeeeeeechnically they could keep it as "Raise Ally" since we all know how males feel about their... well...

I would hope so? I mean, from the sounds of it he's closer to being done than ever (of course, I guess that was true before too...) and there's really not much to be done now, and they've talked about how they're all confident about this one, so I guess we'll see! ^^()

What if it rotted off while they were dead huh? If anything why wasn't this brought up about undead males?! I think the likehood of their penii being in working condition (or there at all for that matter) is a far more important matter! Plus more, wouldn't sex with a DK be like, the ultimate way to prevent ones self from being impregnated seeing as they would probably not have any living sperm?!

So many questions that should never have been asked and don't need an answer, thank you ERP!

I've actually had disturbingly long and over-analytic conversations about this. Although, if I recall it ended up in more of a general agreement that they're undead, they probably don't care much anymore about biological functions like that, so it's a moot point.

All the same, ew. Rotting penii.

I think there are worse things than rotting penii! Think about the women. Maggots living in... well... PENISES WOULDN'T GET LONELY

I had been thinking earlier of like, Horde STD awareness posters: "'Help stop the spread of Vag Rot, use blessings and protection.' -Horde Warchief Garrosh Hellscream"

I suppose lots of flesh got rotten off, and Arthas didn't sit there thinking, "Hmm, yes, mend that arm back, fix that leg, straighten that neck, EWWWWW PENIS! *flails arms*" Heeheehee.

Agreed that there'd be no living sperm. GHOUL SPERM FTW?

Haven't these people heard of rigor mortis?

I have no idea in regards to erection or sex. All I know is that they (Assuming that DKs follow undead lore.) can't reproduce.

I say let people believe what they want.

100% agreed on not reproducing. Even if for some reason a living man had sex with a female DK or a female living woman with a male DK... unless there's something odd happening (*hand waving MAGIC*) it's not going to happen.

Haven't these people heard of rigor mortis?

HA!

Sylvanas flat out states in one of the low level quests that undead are unable to reproduce. It's why she's happy to have the val'kyr after Arthas is killed. I assume the DKs follow the same basic principles.

Just remember, Forsaken DKs especially can't reproduce, being Forsaken that were killed and resurrected by the Lich King!

I bring up this topic often when talking about DKs. I actually listed it on a site I frequent that lists various things that occur often in media under the heading of "Nightmare Fuel." XD Cause it is kinda disturbing to think about.

I never understood the appeal of sex with the undead. Vampires, Death Knights, Forsaken-who-look-almost-human-no-really-ignore-the-bones-sticking-out-on-my-player-model -- it's all kinda 'ugh' to me. Borderline necrophilia. :P Anyway, what's the point of RPing an undead if you're going to basically act like it's really no different from being living? (And according to Blizz, DKs /are/ undead.)

Also, I am actually STUNNED that GRRM actually finished another book in that series. Stunned, I tell you.

Personally, I tend to ignore the part about being undead when I have fantasies involving Sylvanas.

Maybe that's the true reason there's so many alchemists in Forsaken lore: They're trying to find something to cure the maggot issue in the hoo-hah issue. =P

Personally, I agree. Living thing/undead or living thing/DK seems highly icky to me. DK/DK, something like that, well, that's not the same. (I originally wrote "that's not so bad", but I had to change it. Two icky dead cold bodies instead of one is no better! At least to living thing me. to another DK, maybe DK/DK is fine and dandy!)

However, if someone out there has done the RP to get their character past this sort of thing being icky, who am I to say they can't RP this if they want to?

I don't know. I suspect part of it is a thematic disconnect. Sex implies reproduction (even if it is often a form of recreation), but a death knight is the opposite of life. So...how is that supposed to work? A penis squirting spermicide? That's not quite right, either. It needs to be something that creates *unlife*...and most people can't possible conceive of such a thing.

P.S. : "A penis squirting spermicide"... I can't believe I just typed that. The "conceive" joke is kinda lame, too.

Date: 2011-03-04 03:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
*laughs* A penis squirting spermicide is actually sort of an interesting idea -- the same sort of thing happens in some animal species (chemicals in it are harmful to other male's sperm, but not to their own).

In the case of my DK, it was sex as a weapon. There's a line in the opening quests that tells you to go inflict the most terror possible on a town. What would be more terrifying than your loved ones getting killed defending it, standing back up to fight for the bad guy, and raping you?

This is because the thought that someone somewhere might be having fun is simply unbearable to some people.
