We "win"?

The local news just ran a story gas prices. They said the national average was $3.74 a gallon, but San Francisco was $4.13 -- the highest in the nation. Wrong, Mr. Newscaster! Down here an hour or so south of San Fran I just paid $4.26/gallon (and all stations around it were the same).

So, my happy hometown apparently has the highest gas prices in the nation! We win?

Edit: Ha! I emailed the news show (because I'm becoming an old person and correcting things on TV is what old people do best) and they wrote back!

Hi [me], the $4.13 that was reported may have been the average price in San Francisco. We checked out the prices for about a dozen bay area cities on www.gasbuddy.com and it does appear that [my home town] has some of the highest prices. It looks like there's a Chevron in [my home town] selling it for $4.39.
Thanks for writing.

Ours is as high as $4.09, but gas prices in Bellingham are usually pretty high because we get so many tourists from Canada. $4.26 though... that's outrageous!

I'm lucky I don't drive far, so I only fill up about twice a month. $30 x2/month isn't all that bad! Excuse me while I go laugh at SUV drivers.

For real. I can still (barely) manage to fill my car for about $20 and our gas is about #3.73 right now (or it was yesterday... it's been known to jump up 5-10 cents in an hour, ugh).

I cannot imagine blowing $50+ each time you have to fill up. Dear lord.

Hopefully it'll never be reality! D:

Gas is up to $3.59 out here so far. We're praying it doesn't go over $4.

We're told we're going to be over $5 in a month. D:

Edit: Ha ha, this echoes the game, doesn't it? Our raw mats are higher than yours! :P

I didn't need to know that; I need to get gas this week, and was already suffering sticker shock from the $4.03 I payed last time. :P *faints*

And we were complaining about gas prices creeping up to $3.50 here! I guess the rationale is that California people can afford to pay more?

There are two reasons that I know of. The first is that in the summertime (starting now? soon?) we get some kind of gas mix instead of straight gas, it reduces smog. Unfortunately, it's also more expensive... The second reason I can't remember the details of, but basically came down to "Texas screws California". I learned about it in the last election Bush was in. Somehow Texas cheated while making contracts and so can charge California much more than any other state.

Winner winner chicken dinner! :D

(I haven't filled up for a week, but gas was 4.10 last time I checked in the foothills.)

Oh ya, well if I convert the price of gas up here to American language it's about $4.74/gallon! Eat it!

...

This is why I don't drive.

Exactly, I can get everywhere I need to via bus/foot/train/whatever.

A couple years back my parents questioned me about not seeming to care about getting a car or really worrying about a Driver's Licence (which I got more for convenience of it being an almost universal source of photo ID) and I basically told them that it would basically result in me spending all my savings on A) The vehicle itself. B) Maintenance (cause I wouldn't be buying new that's for sure). C) Insurance (Late teens/early 20's driving a car? EAT INSURANCE RATES BITCH!!) D) The ever rising price of gas.

Once they were satisfied I was not worrying about it because I enjoyed being, you know, not broke and wasn't just being lazy they don't bother me about it anymore.
