Voltron, Transformers, and WoW
May. 1st, 2011 05:05 pmVoltron: It's strange to have so many TV channels that you not only don't know all you have, but you have channels that you never even knew existed. I found that I have a station called MYX TV (pronounced 'mix TV'). "Asian-American Music Entertainment & Lifestyle Network". They were showing the original Voltron movie (really just the first four eps), so I checked it out.
It held up surprisingly well. There were some bad/laughable parts (one of the voice actors was just awful, and the whole subplot about the talking super mice was silly), but all in all it was both good and interesting. The 'interesting' part came in in how often the characters prayed. Seems like nearly every ep they did! And it's funny how the idea of robot lions still seems really cool.
Transformers: More than meets-- no wait, wrong transformers. There is something highly odd going on in my neighborhood. For the sixth time since December, they have to shut our electric off for an entire day to replace a transformer. The first time they did it, I filled up a whole bunch of water bottles beforehand to put in the freezer to freeze to hopefully keep everything cold. The second time I somehow had fewer bottles. The third time, even fewer. Last time I was down to three bottles! I hope I have at least that many for this time. Darned electric company...
WoW: Dandelion the worgen druid hit 60. It's funny how WoW becomes a whole new game once you can fly. I barely had Stormwind's layout down, now I have to learn it all again from the air!
Either they made serious and major changes to questing or I've gotten better at it (or both). In previous characters, I could barely get one level finished before I was amazingly annoyed and disgusted with the whole thing. Now? I did 55-60 in one sitting, no rested XP, and it didn't even take all that long (two hours?). And best of all? Not counting my one trip into a PVP BG, I haven't died even once yet. (I think. I seem to remember a falling death, but I can't remember if it was Dandelion or not. Either way, falling doesn't count!)
I do wonder why they made Hellfire the first BC zone you go to. At 59.5 I poked my head in, thinking maybe I could do the first couple quests for easy XP, but I hated it. Hated every second of it. I scurried back out to vanilla lands to finish that last half-level easy-peazy. You'd think they'd pick a pretty, less Hellish zone (questing-wise) for a first experience.
Anyway, now that Dandelion can fly, I took up archaeology on him. I can't say I like it much, but it's good for a little XP here and there. Between that, fishing/cooking dailies, and herb picking, I'm going to get a couple levels before I go back to questing (if I ever do).

little_details comm is so interesting! Writers go there to get answers to little questions. Everything from poisoning pumas with methanol to how one would address a nun in Spanish. I can't stop reading!

Date: 2011-05-02 01:09 am (UTC)HOLY CRAP. Thanks so much for posting this. I failed to bookmark it when someone linked it to me a long, long time ago, and I've been searching for it ever since. I do a lot of my own research for my characters and the various stupid things they get into, but Google just can't provide the more subjective or obscure details. This is my dream comm.
Fffffffffyes, thanks again.
(And apologies for the inbox spam. Still screwing up tags. Damnit.)

Date: 2011-05-03 01:17 pm (UTC)Hmm, not only is it the Alliance/Horde difference, but this is the first time I've leveled only in EK. Usually I barely step foot in it! I'm going to try to get my other worgen to level in Kalimdor, if I can get there easily without moving my hearth from Stormwind (SW is where all the RP is!).
:D

Date: 2011-05-03 08:37 pm (UTC)At any rate, things are so improved now from 1-60 that it seems like you gain a level from scratching your nose. If you bother to continue leveling, you'll notice a huge change as you move into the now awful BC zones. BC was awesome right after Vanilla, was eh during Wrath, but now is just terrible. I keep getting characters to 60 and then leaving them because I can't bear to go through it yet again.

Date: 2011-05-04 08:46 pm (UTC)Very very true.
At the moment I'm not questing, but I'm nearly 62 from fishing/cooking dailies, herbing/mining, and archaeology. I don't do much of any of those, but a little of everything adds up. In another level or two I might quest for a bit, just to get better armor so I don't get eaten when I step foot in Northrend.
I'm so torn when it comes to Northrend. I actually like questing there, which means I level faster, which means I leave Northrend faster. I won't turn XP off, I don't like it THAT much, but I hate that every time I level up there it's one step closer to being done with the area.
Oh well! Luckily my worgen are really just RP alts, so it doesn't matter too much how quickly they level. Dandelion needed flying for RP, but other than that it's all good.
