I'm not exactly sure why I put Iron Man into my Netflix queue. Robert Downey Jr is cute, but that's not usually enough to make me want to see something. Maybe I had fond memories of the commercials?

Whatever the reason, it arrived on my doorstep and so became Movie of the Week. There's about a half-hour left to go in it, so the fact that I'm posting now might be a hint as to how I feel about it.

It had its moments. Mostly in the beginning. Some moments were cool, some were amusing. But the storyline? ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ I knew from the first moment we saw the bald guy that he would turn out to be a bad guy. Every step of the way I was guessing correctly what would happen. Plus there's the silly element, so little of what happened made sense or is the slightest bit realistic...

I'm not a comic book movie person, so this wasn't a good match for me off the bat. I've watched an hour and a half of it, but it feels like it took a week and a half to do so. zzzzz I suppose I'll watch the last half hour of it, but if I had anything better to do I'd do it instead.

Edit: I really should have found something better to do. Gah. RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU WERE SURPRISED BY THE ENDING. Bah.

Tony Stark is Iron Man?!? Mind = Blown!

I don't know, to me the Iron Man movies are more about pulling together the members of The Avengers then being about Iron Man, so they seem to be more simplistic and don't have complicated story lines or anything like that.

*blank look* I know nothing of the The Avengers, were there other super heroes in the movie that I missed?

SHIELD is the organization that basically set up The Avengers with Nick Fury leading that organization. Iron Man 1 was like introduction to Mr. Stark and Shield but Iron Man 2 was like all about The Avengers.

Oooooh. I did see SHIELD mentioned on my flist today (in relations to Thor? I think?).

Probably, Thor is another member of The Avengers and SHIELD showed up in the movie as well as in the obligatory "big reveal" (which was actually pretty big for us comic nerds) at the end of the movie.

Iron Man wasn't an awesome movie because the plot was original or unpredictable. Iron Man was awesome because RDJ was fantastic and it's laugh out loud funny. :)

Yeah, I've been thinking about it since posting. I would have much more enjoyed two hours of watching him do science stuff and be funny. He really was good in it, I'm slightly tempted to get the second movie just to see more of him.

Plus Pepper wasn't useless.

It's nothing dramatically great, but the small touches made me grin.

Yeah! I didn't mind her at all.

I liked a lot of the small touches, too. I think if they had taken the bald bad guy and the second armor/suit out of the movie (thus getting rid of the whole final fight), I would have liked it a lot more.

OMG, I loved Iron Man for precisely those reasons! It was so cheesily predictable-- like, you could probably even predict exactly what was going to happen in that fight in the end! I thought that that was part of what made it such a fun movie.

I suspect I went into it expecting the wrong thing (or my standards were too high). I actually put the second one into my queue for the coming week; I'm guessing my standards are so low now, that I might actually enjoy it! And if nothing else, I'll get to see more of Robert Downey Jr. :D
