thistlechaser: (Cat shrimp (hungry now?))

I've never had jerky before. I've considered it many times (I do like meat, and I do need snacks), but it always seems like an odd thing. Dried meat? So I finally bought a package. Teriyaki flavored, since I love that.

It sat on my counter for weeks. I'd get hungry and eye it, then lose my nerve and not try it.

Tonight's RP involves jerky, so I decided what better time.

It's... not totally horrible, though I have zero desire to eat any more of it. It IS odd and strange and all that. Dried meat is odd. It wasn't bad enough that I spit out the bite I had, but though I hate to waste food, I'm not going to eat the rest.

It's a shame I don't like it more, the calories are really low. 80 calories for a third of the bag, and I don't think I could eat that much in one sitting. Wow, you need to finish the bag in three days of opening it.

Edit: Oh, but speaking of food! I love greek yogurt! It took eating it many, many mornings, but I really like it now and totally understand the dessert comments -- it's so thick and creamy! It doesn't taste sour to me hardly at all anymore.

In as much as I don't prefer jerky at all, it's like nearly every other food out there... some types are good, and others really, really suck.

Don't discount it because you dislike one brand. :) I've had some jerky that was amazing. And then there's the brands Mark likes. *cough* Ew.

Teriyaki isn't my preferred flavor, not one bit. You should try an Original, or if you like pepper, Peppered.

Original I'd be willing to try, but not peppered. If I get a chance to try original without buying a whole bag, I will!

I don't know if you can find it, but try looking in a South African food shop for something called "biltong". It's the South African equivalent of jerky but much tastier. It's spiced, not sweet.

Hee. It's so fun when you blog about food. Half the stuff you try that is so strange and new to you is old hat for me, so I love seeing your responses! But yeah, as above people have said... careful what kind of jerky you get. I love the stuff (I grew up munching on venison jerky the hunters make around here) and yet I've still had some truly horrible jerky.

Also, I'm glad you like greek yogurt now! Yummy stuff.

Yeah, I figured people might like reading because of that, that's why I'm more okay with posting such minor things.

Did you watch this week's GoT? My favorite ep so far!

I did! And totally agreed. They just keep getting better and better, seems like. This episode felt very... HBO-ish. From the gore to the nudity. I was amused by Theon, and immediately taunted my sister with the fact that they did, in fact, show exactly what she'd been wondering about from the first episode. Back then I'd told her it was HBO, they'd probably do it. And sure enough, they did! I didn't tell her who, though, so I'll be curious to see what she says... hehe.

It's funny how different seeing things is. The open-sides cell? At least it was a lot bigger than I recall from the book! But seeing how high it was? EEEEEK

The gore was something else! Poor horse! (And poor Ned's leg, ha.)

For the first time, I kind of didn't dislike Robert as much as usual. (I didn't hate him in the books, but in the show he's just so... ugh.) I feel bad for both of them, what a horrible marriage.

I was surprised they actually... showed the horse killing. I mean, they didn't show Lady's (which I'm just as happy about - not that I'm squeamish or anything, but it would've been depressing) so I was a little surprised they showed the horse. It happened so fast I was like, O_O

That's one thing I've noticed about the show. The books really waited to sort of "humanize" a lot of the characters until we got to see things from their perspective. In the show we see a lot more of that earlier, making people like Robert and Cersei a bit more understandable. It's very interesting.

Also... the thing with Renly and Loras. I don't remember that. Do you? I was like, "Whoa. Whoa, really? REALLY?! ...Hawt." But I still don't remember it happening in the book. Not that I'm complaining! I just... don't remember it.

I think they showed the horse to show how strong Mountain was, though that still seems like it would take more strength than anyone would have... but then I don't know much about chopping heads off horses.

GRRM commented on the Renly/Loras and gay characters in general. He said there were some in the books, but he never mentioned it in his writing because it didn't fit/wasn't important, but that the HBO series would have a much clearer gay pairing. I believe he said that he wasn't going to say if it was a pairing he had in mind or not.

I love greek yogurt. I can't stand regular yogurt, the consistency makes me gag. But the greek yogurt is creamy instead and I can eat it without a problem. Love it especially with fresh cut strawberries.

Mmm, I bet strawberries would be outstanding in it! I'll have to try that next time I buy some.

Jerky is like the bacon of the snack world. Fresh jerky, that you can see it still glistening and moist with flavour, is the best thing in the world to guys like me.

Greek yogurt is thicker than normal yogurt, and took some getting used to for me, but I love it. My gf and I used to have to choose what we'd get; greek yogurt, because I was a picky bastard and wouldn't even try it, or gelatin spheres for bubble-tea. Which I loathe with every fiber of my being. blegh.

Those are my food stories. :B

I was going to compare it to bacon! But I thought people would think I were crazy. It had that salty, chewiness that bacon has.

I'm with you, bubble tea scares me. D:

I am sad I do not live near you, I would take that jerky, and I would EAT IT. I WOULD EAT ALL OF IT. I love that stuff.

You are more hardcore than me on the greek yogurt though, I can only have it in smoothies.

I wish I could give it to you! Wouldn't be any use in even mailing it because THE OPEN-BAG CLOCK IS ALREADY TICKING. ...plus the postage would probably cost more than a new bag. BUT IF I COULD PSYCHICALLY SEND IT TO YOU, I WOULD
