Never let it be said that I don't give credit where credit is due. You go, Mr. Republican! Three cheers for you!

Republican New York State Senator Roy McDonald is one of the few Republicans who's said he will vote to legalize gay marriage in New York.

"You get to the point where you evolve in your life where everything isn't black and white, good and bad, and you try to do the right thing," McDonald, 64, told reporters.

"You might not like that. You might be very cynical about that. Well, fuck it, I don't care what you think. I'm trying to do the right thing.

"I'm tired of Republican-Democrat politics. They can take the job and shove it. I come from a blue-collar background. I'm trying to do the right thing, and that's where I'm going with this."

McDonald's support for the gay marriage bill leaves it only one vote short of having enough support to be made into law.

C'mon, California! So many other states can do it, we're California! How can we not be in the forefront on this?

Semi-related.

I tend to keep the live C-SPAN feed of the House floor droning in the background at work. Usually it's exactly what you'd think: Dead boring and enough to put someone to sleep, and most days there aren't more than 30 or so people present when Generic Congressman/woman #24 is going on and on about something nobody really cares about.

But, oh my god...

The soul-crushing level of boredom it produced was suddenly shattered when the phrase, "remote Skype robo-abortions" filtered on up into my ears.

So, that phrase was repeated several times and I'm not sure what he thought Skype was capable of, but I'm pretty sure it can't give abortions (context: He was talking about some bill provision that would allow women to get the morning after pill 'script without having to go into a clinic to get said 'script.)

That got me listening because it really struck me like the Lewis Black "If it weren't for my horse..." bit, and the guy kept saying bizarre shit that made me wonder if he was actually hearing the words coming out of his mouth.

In referring to Obama, while he was a senator, he called him a "very urban Senator from Illinois". In 'context', I suppose, he was talking about him in reference to some farm bill, but c'mon, really?

After that he moved on to the gem of, "When the Irish go after each other, they don't call it racial discrimination."

At that point I went to lunch and spent my entire lunch break going back to the "remote Skype robo-abortions" comment and wondering where in the holy living fuck he came up with that phrase. My best theory is a young intern thought it would be hilarious to see if the old guy would say something that dumb because he's old and not good with those newfangled computer-internet-thingies.

It was Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa, 5th District) that provided me with afternoon WTFery on Thursday.
