I hate it when people make me destroy markets. Luckily I have more gold than I will ever need, so I am able to do just that.

There's a new troll in town. She thinks she can waltz in and drive me out of my own markets, markets I have controlled for more than a year now. Undermine Journal is a very handy and very harmful site. I can see what other people are doing, but unfortunately they can see exactly what I am doing, too. This person used my own trick: Looked me up, saw I was doing well, so expanded into all of my markets.

For this she shall die. Or at least lose gold. Hopefully a whole lot of it.

I dropped enchanting, but I do have a free professions slot so I may just level it again so I can ruin that market of hers, too. I already have a JC, and though I really, really don't want to get into the gem business again, I may just do the cuts that she does, just so I can drive her prices into the dirt.

I hate it when people make me do this. Well, okay, I sort of enjoy it as well, but I'd rather live peacefully, making money on my own.

This battle is going to be hard because she doesn't work or go to school(?), she's online later at night than me and comes online soon after I do in the morning. As far as I can tell, she's online all day. It really pisses me off when having a RL job hurts me in these efforts. As soon as I left home to return to work after lunch, UJ reported that she went through and undercut me on everything. Sigh. Insert my usual rant about kids who can play all day having advantages against adults with jobs. Oh well, eventually I'll drive prices so low she won't want to undercut me, then I'll just need to keep them there until she gives up. Hopefully crying. I'd be extra happy if she quit WoW altogether. And got a job, you damned hippie!

On the "plus" side, I can take a break from leveling Clover to babysit the AH. I've kind of missed doing that, babysitting the AH all day. Less "plus", I'll lose out on RP. Will have to try for some kind of balance.

Some troll named Kruezhev (http://theunderminejournal.com/seller.php?realm=H-Wyrmrest%20Accord&seller=Kruezhev). I feel funny calling her a troll, but she really is!

Is it wrong that this made me laugh? <_< Maybe you need to rp a trader and thus have ic reasons to ALWAYS be in the AH and you can rp and work at the same time! Maybe. And as a "hippie" with no job, I'll apologize for the ones that suck. :p

Good! Better you laugh than be scared of me. :D I always worry these kinds of posts will make people think I'm insane RL!

Psst! It's a secret, but I actually like hippies and envy their no-job-ness. Enjoy it!

OMG, I know. I'm always paranoid when I post something game or rp related in my rl journal. But then I realized that the only friend watching that journal who isn't into those things is OBSESSED with fanfiction which by default means she's crazier than I am so my posts are ok. *sage nod*

And due to the stay homeyness + living in the middle of nowhere I don't have a whole lot else to talk about!

And Technically I was raised by hippies so I don't know, it's genetic? And right now constantly chasing after an-almost-two-year-old is enough of a job for me! XD

Oh, I bet it is!

I'm always paranoid when I post something game or rp related in my rl journal.

That's kind of funny. When I read my friendsfriends list, it's always amusing how RP posts are mixed in with "normal"/RL ones.

"Today someone tried to kill me..."

"My best friend is a werewolf..."

"I killed a man today..."

I always boggle for a moment before realizing those are IC posts. :P

You know, I had a pretty shitty 10 hour shift on like 1 and a half hours of sleep. This post made everything instantly better.

For this she shall die.

This made the post. I suggest removing all limiters, fuelling the low flying bombers, activating AH Protocol 66, and perhaps (just for fun) sending an ultimatum. Not one of those metaphorical ones, like a real one in mail. Then cut off all communications and fire an AH shot across their bow.

like a real one in mail.

Very good idea! Bonus points for RL postal mail.

If I was partaking in AH PvP and got a "cease and desist" order in RL mail from my opponent I'd probably gtfo to a new server just to be safe.

Many people I know play WoW while at their jobs. She might be a stay-at-home mom (a tougher job than it looks) or work from home. Ya shouldn't assume she's a lazy good for nothing person in real life just because she's undercutting you. Or a she at all. :)

Her character model is female, that's what I go off from. She could very well be male RL! Or really female! I just always call folks by whatever their character is.

And true! She might work from home or something like that. :)

Heh! No worries at all. It's a new thing in WoW that people use the person's RL gender instead (and often name, too). It drives me batty! But I'm quickly becoming the odd man out by using the character's gender.

man. I wish I could say something like "I have all the money I need" In or out of game.

Make sure you don't drop anything, vendor all your greys and quest greens that you don't need. It all adds up, that's the start to being rich. :D

Good luck!

Absolutely this. I'm constantly being shocked by the people I see not looting in dungeons, or encountering stuff I can't skin because it wasn't looted, etc. Sometimes when I'm rep farming low level mobs for goblin or Ravenholdt rep I don't loot to save time, but even that low stuff produces things to sell that add up like cloth.

I've been farming in low level dungeons for RP stuff, and it amazes me the price cloth is going for. 8 gold for a stack of silk? Wool is like 8 gold a piece. Amazing! Farming is boring as heck, but it helps knowing I'm making money at the same time.

I don't really understand the problem here. I've seen people talk about doing this stuff before, but it really doesn't make sense to me. If you've got the gold you need...so what if someone else is selling stuff too? Since you do have a job, it's not like you can sufficiently supply the market by yourself.

Maybe it's just that the glyph market, my primary one, is so different, but I only post auctions once, maybe twice a day, don't babysit, and I usually make at least 10k a day. Stuff sells all the time even when I get undercut. I'm pretty friendly with all my competitors that I've actually interacted with. I'd love to punch the idiots who undercut a 120g glyph by 100g, but they're idiots, so even if I wanted to do anything like this, it's not like it would have any effect. They're already selling things for less than the mats are worth, driving the prices lower won't do anything.

So basically, I don't get it. Why bother? Why be nasty over a game's fake gold? I've seen other goblins talk about this sort of thing, but I just don't get it. I was getting very frustrated by the idiots leveling up their inscription and putting stuff up too low and bringing the market down, but I started buying out the way low auctions and a few others have started doing similar things and we've brought the market right back up...

From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
In reverse order:

I don't think it's "being nasty", not any more than PvP is. There's a limited amount of money to be made, and on my server it takes a lot more work to make a lot less of it than you're making nearly effortlessly:

If I get undercut as soon as I go to bed, I make under 100 gold overnight. If I don't, I make maybe 2K overnight. (Our servers are pretty different, which would account for some of the difference in our profit. I'm not sure how much the glyph market accounts for the difference, but I know MG is a heck of a lot more raidy than WRA, so it makes sense your glyphs sell so well.)

On the not making sense, for me, making money is the most enjoyable part of the game (not counting RP). In a way it's pointless, since I have way more than I could ever need, but what in the game isn't pointless? PvEers get gear to get better gear to get better gear, then replace it with quest greens when a new expansion comes out. PvPers do the same, but with honor gear. I guess it's not the gold or the gear, but the process. I enjoy researching this stuff off-game, reading goldmaking blogs, trying to find markets that I haven't tried before. I love finding vendors who sell stuff that people want, and buying from them to sell on the AH. And I guess, like PvP and PvE, I like "winning", doing better than other people. Keeping control of my market is my goal.

So basically, it's an entirely different game mindset...which means I'm screwed if anyone ever decides to target me. Ah well. Thank you for explaining!

Date: 2011-08-15 03:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
Yeah, I was thinking that after I posted the comment. If we were in the same market, it wouldn't work out well for you (which I feel like I should apologize for! :P ). Your theory is 'it'll eventually sell' and mine is 'I want every sale', so I replace things as soon as I'm undercut or when it sells. Your way of doing it only works if everyone in that market does it that way.

The other glyph seller I know works under your way of doing things, so maybe something about selling glyphs attracts that seller-personality. (Which also fits with glyphs driving me crazy and I never ever want to sell them.)

Date: 2011-08-15 10:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] firebyrd.livejournal.com
See, that's the thing-I think the glyph market is different. There are people that sit there and undercut, undercut, undercut, but my stuff still sells. There are just too many different glyphs. It would be pretty hard to drive someone like me out of the market, because you'd have to spam the market with something like 350 different items, assuming you even have them all in the first place. And if you didn't learn every glyph in Wrath like I did? It's extremely difficult to do so now.

Hmm, as I think about it, I don't think I've noticed many glyphs from the person I know was constantly canceling and relisting lately. Maybe the sheer number of items drove her crazy like you.

Date: 2011-08-16 01:36 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
Yeah, the number of glyphs (and my inscription guy did have them all), but the fact that so many of them never sell. It made me rip my hair out! Tons and tons of them, never fricking moving, so many to cancel and relist and never ever ever selling. I can feel my blood pressure going up just remembering it! :P (I suspect WRA sells a lot fewer than MG or other more-raiding one. Most of my 85s have very few glyphs, and that's fine and dandy. I'd think raiding/more PvE-types would be more interested in having them all.) There's a fellow on my friendslist who moved from some top raiding server to WRA, and he's a glyph seller. I should ask him.
