The nature of guilds (WoW)

When Reed and Clove were wee little alts, I picked a level 25 guild with a non-embarrassing name to join. Alas the run with them didn't last. I logged on today to find myself kicked out, all members were (a few hundred). Apparently the owner logged on, typed in all caps "I DON'T KNOW ANY OF YOU!" and kicked everyone.
My initial intent was to put guild chat in its own tab and ignore it, just ride the perks to 85, then I discovered I knew people in it. Jad and Justcallmefelix from the IC Twitter project. Suddenly I started talking to folks, and in a twist that always boggles me, people started liking me and I made friends.
Then poof! Gone. Blah. Some of the old people made a new guild, but of course it's level 1. I hate hate hate having to pick a guild based on level and perks, but I hate XPing even more... So I found a new one with a name I liked (Dragonfly) and got Reed and Clove into it. Unfortunately there seem to be fewer people in it, so eeeeek they all want to talk to me and they're nice but NEW PEOPLE EEK NERVOUS. I'm still not sure it's the right decision, maybe I should have gone with friends instead, but I'm only on the alts a half-hour or so a day, so I suppose it's okay.
In other less than happy news, I spent the entire night questing. UGH. Even though it was BC level stuff on my 85 alt, I hated every moment of it. Not to mention, I died once. One of the quest took me into slabs to kill the second boss there. Little did I know that if you don't kill everything else in the room first, it all mobs you. 85 vs a level 70 elite mob? No problem! 85 vs dozens of level 70 elite mobs? SPLAT. Anyway, eventually I finally got the staff I wanted for transmogging, Wildcaller. Only after I spent three hours on it, did I realize that the other color of it, Fleshling Simulation Staff, is actually nicer. I have the blue one on Keen, but it took many hours to get, so I'm not going to redo it on Thistle.
An issue with transmogging is that your enchant still shows, so now I have a black paw on a stick... that glows red. I'm thinking of putting a lesser enchant on it just to get rid of the glow.

"Pick me! Pick me! I know the answer!"
Unfortunately, as you can't transmog cross-type (plate to mail to leather), I didn't actually get to do too much of it. Haken got his whole outfit done, but he wasn't exactly lacking for space. Thistle, who is, only got two or three pieces done.
blightheart linked me to Haken's old blog,
haken_the_dk which on some level I recalled existing, but I hadn't looked at it in many, many months. I read a couple posts, and it's been long enough that I forgot them -- it was like reading something not written by me. On one hand, I'd like to sit down and read the whole thing from beginning to end, I bet it would be interesting (and perhaps embarrassing), but on the other... I'm kind of worried about waking his voice up in my head. Sleep, Haken, be happy living in Northrend with Morn and the wolves and Dragon and their collection of books and animals and such.

Date: 2011-11-30 03:42 pm (UTC)Tom Walker is one scary dude. There's something wrong with his head, in a much worse (scarier) way than is with Brody's. (Or maybe it's less scary, since it's obvious with him and Brody's is more hidden...)

Date: 2011-12-03 05:23 am (UTC)I have zero issues with people hating each other, it's going to happen, but /spitting and such is just plain rude.

For that split second I was like "wait...did I click the wrong link or something?"

Date: 2011-11-30 08:55 am (UTC)I know a couple people who are/were in Dragonfly, and they have nothing but good things to say about it, so I think you chose right. :D

Date: 2011-11-30 08:44 pm (UTC)I'm more pissed about how the guild lead acted, and the giant gbank that's been left behind. Most of that gold was deposited by people who were kicked, or from guild challenges the owner had nothing to do with. Either way, the new guild seems to be doing well enough.

GOOD LUCK to you guys, too!

Date: 2011-11-30 12:07 pm (UTC)And sorry! I didn't mean to wake up your dormant one. I just found it pretty funny that we both forgot about the ear thing. xD
Is that paw-on-a-stick IC?
no subject
Date: 2011-11-30 03:51 pm (UTC)Nope, the paw-on-a-stick isn't IC at all. One of my other alts (Keen) has used the blue version ICly, and Haken would be delighted with it (and would walk around happily beating living folks with it), but it's not something Thistle would use.
And no worries! I'm still boggling that we both forgot about Haken's ear, too.
Reading over the patch notes, I think I understand what happened with the guild. 4.3 brought that "removing idle guild owners" thing, so the owner probably came back to kick everyone out before her guild could get taken away. Level 25 guilds with good names (this was Risen From Ashes) sell for a lot of gold. (Or maybe she was going to keep it and invite her friends only into it.) Plus she got all the gold and items from the guild bank...

Date: 2011-11-30 01:14 pm (UTC)Sucks that your old guild dumped you though! And a level 25? Sucks. D: Glad you found a new home in the meantime though!
I get what you mean about reading dormant characters. I always go ARGH WANT TO BRING THEM BACK.. even if it's just an old story I wrote for a non-RP character. Then I want to make them into an RP character! I'm glad I'm not the only person who talks their characters back into quiet submission. XD

Date: 2011-11-30 03:56 pm (UTC)While I don't like being dumped, I think it was probably a smart move on the guild owner's part. 4.3 brought about that 'if guild owner is idle, someone else gets ownership' thing, so she was probably worried she'd lose it. Or she was batshit insane. One of the two.
I'm glad I'm not the only person who talks their characters back into quiet submission. XD
Hee, yes. It's easier with Haken because his story ended on a high note (mostly). Living in Northrend with lots of books and animals, plus work he enjoys doing (for the Unu'pi villagers). Most of my other RP characters just fade out without any closure at all, which makes it rougher.
