Reed hit 53 today, mostly through the random dungeon finder. Clove is 32-ish, leveled the same way. Last night, for the first time since I started leveling them, I heard 'gay' being used to mean 'bad'. Last time I leveled an alt this way, I heard it multiple times in nearly every group. This time, after being jarred by it and frowning mightily at my screen and calling the guy out on using it, I realized how rare it's become. I doubt it's rare as a whole, I bet the trade channel still throws it about endlessly, but if I'm seeing it so much less often when exposed to the general WoW player base, it must really be becoming less accepted. Such good news!

I did two levels of questing on Reed (51/52) and it went SO much faster! Gah! It took me three hours of random dungeons to get two levels, then just an hour of questing to get the next two. I'm going to do the rest of the way through to 60 questing (then finally, archaeology time). So close to flying!

In other happy WoW news, Reed has his Blood Knight tabard! Eeeee, it looks so good! And if I'm not going to instance, he can wear it all the time! :D

Yay for the blood knight tabard!

I've noticed that the level 60 pvp gear is meant not to be moggable, but if you plan on making a blood knight set to mog and use, never fear! The Dark Iron set, except for the helm, matches perfectly. The helm is sold for JP by the naaru in Shattrath, and it's really not hard to get even before level 85, if you do all the Shattered Sun dailies and the Northrend random dungeons (which aren't actually painful). The cloak you can get from Magister's Terrace or with JP. The matching belt is from JP as well. I love the transmogging, because then I have so much extra bag space for important things like voodoo drums and amber. :D

Also, if you have even more JP and want to use JP instead of find someone to make Dark Iron stuff, the fire resist gear from the Shattrath vendor also matches perfectly.

The only thing I haven't found is shoulders that match the lvl 60 pvp set. If you like those shoulders you might be out of luck. I like the Dark Iron ones better, and they come in a green BoE version you can camp the AH for. They're Outlands green shoulders. My paladin uses them because they look awesome and match the Netherstorm blood knights.

Edit for another note: The NPC blood knights I've seen use the spell sword from Shattered Sun rep, so doing Shattered Sun dailies and running Magister's Terrace also nets you a matching weapon :D Put fiery enchant on it and it looks just like that NPC marching around Silvermoon. The shield is from heroic Ramparts and shouldn't be too hard to get. If you need someone to run you through, once you hit 70, let me know, I don't mind.

I am with Kelenar in supporting more fine looking Blood Knights.

There is a shield, Bloodforged Guard, that is a quest reward in Shadowmoon Valley that is identical to the Ramparts one: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/item/30986

There are also quest reward shoulders from Zangarmarsh: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/item/27725

I totally forgot about that shield. I must not have gotten it because I did all the BC quests long before I thought about RP. I know that's why I didn't use the shoulders.

I like Warmaul Epaulets (http://www.wowhead.com/item=24996/warmaul-epaulets) for my belfadin. I dunno about male blood elves, but the Boulderfist model looked a bit odd on her.

That the level 60 pvp gear isn't moggable pissed me off big time. D: Now I have a lot more farming to do, but at least I have all these comments here to help. >_>;

I was majorly bummed about it :(. I picked up the Inferno-Tempered stuff for under 500JPs though and now am a happy little BK :D

but if I'm seeing it so much less often when exposed to the general WoW player base, it must really be becoming less accepted. Such good news!

I wonder about that. On one hand I do see that, at least around here, that it's becoming less acceptable and rarer to hear it as an insult. But I wouldn't think WoW as a good barometer for humanity (if it is, we're screwed). I would more think that since the average WoW player who uses "gay" as an insult is the same kind who can't go half an hour without complaining about wanting new content that they aren't using it as much because it's an "old" insult. It's kind of like how 5 years ago people wouldn't shut up with the "Your mama" jokes but now they are less used overall.

I think of it in meme terms. Look back at some of the older internet memes, most of them have been forgotten or are simply used more sparingly. It's because new stuff came along to fill the void that had been controlled by those memes.

So, it's not so much that the people who would use gay as an insult think it's not acceptable to anymore, but that they just got tired of it and went to find new words or sayings to insult people with. You're theory would mean they've matured, which isn't bloody likely!

In real life, "it's so gay" as a negative comment has lost a lot of value in my social circles (work at McDonald's, socialize with gamers both online and not, hang out in a local dive bar, my church) largely due to the social influence of 4 rather prominent homosexual couples (two pairs men, two pairs women).
It has lead to some rather uncomfortable sentence alterations when describing clothes.

On a slightly related note, I was amazed to hear a "In Soviet Russia, Inanimate Object does Something to you" joke in a radio ad on the weekend...
