Proposition 8, banning same-sex marriage, was decided on in California courts today.

"Proposition 8 serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California, and to officially reclassify their relationships and families as inferior to those of opposite-sex couples. The Constitution simply does not allow for laws of this sort."

Prop 8 declared unconstitutional! Of course it will be appealed yet again, but for today? A win for love! :D

Yeah. I was listening to talk radio while driving back from lunch, and unsurprisingly they were talking about this. Some of the comments were so hateful, but they tried to make them sound reasonable. I wanted to yell.

I don't expect anything to change in Virginia or Georgia any time soon. Blegh.

But good to know that I might be living in a state in the near future that's at least trying! :D Even if they're arguing over this for awhile, it's still definitely a step in the right direction. \o/
