I rarely ask for people to click on links. I think I've done it only one other time in the history of my LJ. But this one is close to my heart, so here goes.

I first learned of Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society through a news story: Their shelter had a fire during the night, and while the firemen were able to save the dogs, all the cats were in cages and the firemen didn't have time to get them out. Every poor kitty in the shelter died, and the cat shelter itself was a total loss.

That was years ago and they've since rebuilt. I donated to them, so I'm on their mailing list now. They sent out word that Chase Bank is having a contest: Five million dollars will be given to non-profits, based on number of votes -- the group with the most votes gets $250K, and it goes down from there.

You do need a Facebook account to vote, unfortunately. If you're the rare person who doesn't have one (like me!), having a fake one is handy for this sort of thing.

But I don't have a facebook!!! But I want to help animals...hmmm, time to forward to all relatives! That should work, suck it facebook! What with your likes and your friends and social type stuff! Back in my day... well we had hotmail for that back in my day... *shakes stick*

I've had my account since Facebook opened, so if they wanted to shut it down, I would hope they would have done so by now. And if they do it now? Meh! I only use it for this and some game I used to play that required a FB login for some reason.

Did you see my Homeland post? I just watched the first ep again, and it has me grinning. I think I'm going to try to watch an ep a day so I don't get through the season too fast.

Yeah, honestly... I have no clue how they'll actually be able to find and shut down all the fake accounts. I don't even see why it really matters, unless you're using it to spam. But eh. Whatever. No real skin off my nose, I guess.

And yes, I did! I actually... um, never finished the last season. After everything went on hiatus (I hate that they do that) I fell behind on it all. There is so much to catch up with and so little time now! But actually, when we do get the time I'll probably re-watch everything with Alex. He was kinda interested in it last time, so. Watching stuff with someone's more fun anyway. Then you can go into tangents about it, hee.

I'd be surprised if they even notice my account. It has one friend (I have no idea how he found it or connected it to me). I do nothing on it, nothing with it (other than this voting thing just now). I'd think they'd shut it down for being inactive before they do it for being fake.

Besides, I AM Thistle Chaser. :P

When I downloaded the app, it gave me the option of who to let it talk to. I picked 'self only', so I think that would keep it from doing that? Just a guess, I'm clueless about Facebook!

Voted. I volunteer at an animal shelter (and lo, I am buried under piles of kittens!) though not as often as I used to (new job = longer commute = less time). Hopefully this will assuage some of my guilt over stressing my cat by moving (he is very unhappy with being a new house already populated with a very friendly cat...hoping they get friendly soon as they're both super friendly to dogs).



In weird other news, my boss is convincing me to rejoin WoW for a bit. At least in the tech industry, it seems WoW is like golf - outside of work socialization with management. Very bizarre. I'm expected to be available for raids one night per week with voicechat to talk to coworkers.

Wow. I'm glad the tech industry around here isn't like that! I think if my boss and co-workers played, I'd be more likely to quit. :P
