Romney lies so much, I can't even come up with creative titles for posts about it anymore. Also, I hope this is the last political post I make until after the election!

I think people who believe Romney isn't anti-choice are few and far between (or Republican), but a new video of him has gone viral. Once more, Romney's own words are what are coming back to bite him. (Doesn't it say something that what he says when he thinks he's speaking off camera keeps coming back to haunt him? The fact that he's being honest those times and lying when he knows he's on camera? See also: Romney stating outright that he doesn't care about half of Americans. Oh, but he didn't mean that...)

Romney, in his own words, saying he is against abortion, that no woman should be able to have one:

Starts at 3 minutes in. The first 3 minutes are nearly as scary though, as two grown men talk in a matter of fact way about where the second coming of God will take place.

Please, please, please. Think about your vote this coming Tuesday! Women worked long and hard to get the rights we have now. Will we give them up so easily? Do we want to return to having men decide what we can do with our bodies?

The economy will eventually improve, no matter who is in charge. (Then it will likely get worse again, then better, then worse. Happens.) But our rights are a long-term issue! A vote for Romney will hurt women. It will hurt anyone who is not rich. It will hurt any dogs he wants to take on cross-country trips.

Please think, please vote. Hopefully these scary times will end on Tuesday and women won't end up barefoot and pregnant on Wednesday. (I wrote that sentence in an attempt at humor, but there's so very much not funny about this. "I can't imagine" is a term people throw around a lot, but I literally cannot imagine being forced to carry a baby to term if I do not want to. That's not even making women a second-class citizen, that's making a woman into livestock or slaves.)

I am 47-- and I had my tubes tied 15 years back. I have had two children. So unwanted pregnancy is not going to happen to me. But having rights for women dissolved is very much my issue. It should be a red hot priority for everyone. Romney would set the country back 100 years, if he gets in. I am so scared he will win. (And afraid about what it will say about my country if he does.)

The point you make about the economy is a good one too-- it goes up, it goes down. Even if you believe he will improve it short term-- and I don't--- it is not a reason to throw everything else away.

That, so much. I read a fiction story once, about what the future of America might be like. Religious police, no one from a country that practices religions other than our accepted ones let in, anyone other than 100% straight getting sent for reeducation, etc. It's so scary because it seems so possible. I worry about the country so much, and if Romney got elected, we'd be further along on the path to that future.

Tuesday. Just two more days, hopefully less than 48 hours, and we'll know. Then we just have to worry about what happens four years later...

I worry about this election because of what happened at the barn the other day. My barn manager was all a-flutter because she was angry that "that Obama asshole" made it so she can't buy shotgun shells and guns at her local Walmart anymore.

I felt like asking her if her ability to hunt was more important than women's rights and the rights of our instructor and her employee, as he is homosexual. But you know. Gotta shoot things.

If that's a reason to vote for Romney.. I don't even.

Sigh. Wow. You'd think she'd be happy she couldn't buy shells there! If she can't, criminals can't get them easily, either! I do not think it's unreasonable to have to go through some paperwork process to buy things meant to kill.

...wait. I'm asking for reason from someone on the Right.

I watched that, and I certainly didn't need to be convinced/terrified of his policies on women any further... but what I'm (also) looking at is his behavior. Look how belligerent he gets at a man who is flat-out saying he agrees with Romney. He won't answer the questions, goes off about the dj "making this all about Mormonism, all the interviews are about Mormonism, Mormon Mormon Mormon" -- note that the dj didn't say a damn thing about religion and it's Romney shoveling his faith into half the interview -- then gets up and prepares to leave while finishing the interview, which is just one big flouncing-off slap of "I don't have time for a peon like you".

How's he going to behave when he comes up against anyone who isn't a bobbleheading yes-man? Republicans with differently-nuanced views? The Congressional Democrats? Military and diplomatic advisors? The rest of the world? I don't want to be represented by the political equivalent of a cranky three-year-old faced with vegetables.

Yes! I noticed that, too! Right wing radio talkshow host, agreeing with him, and Romney throws a hissy fit.

I don't want to be represented by the political equivalent of a cranky three-year-old faced with vegetables.

Ha! That sums him up so perfectly.

What really sets my teeth on edge is that he's emphasizing how well he knows the church, how he's been in leadership positions within the church and he knows it so well.

He says "Mormons should not participate in, encourage, or in any way support abortions" and that is flat-out wrong. The church's official stance is far different than what he represents it as.

Here is something directly from the official website of the LDS church. (Here's a link to the full statement http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/official-statement/abortion )

The Church allows for possible exceptions for its members when:

1 Pregnancy results from rape or incest, or
2 A competent physician determines that the life or health of the mother is in serious jeopardy, or
3 A competent physician determines that the fetus has severe defects that will not allow the baby to survive beyond birth.

I am a member of the same church that he is. It annoys me immensely that he's using the faith that he and I both (theoretically) share to support a disgusting, heinous position that will cause only suffering, pain and anguish for God's children.

Ugh. I'm sorry you have to share a religion with him. I'm sorry we both have to share a country with him. Maybe, once he loses tomorrow (fingers crossed!), he'll move elsewhere. Maybe buy a small island where he can set himself up as king (of the crabs and seagulls).

Pffft, whatever. We're all crazy. Some of us just manage to be lovable-crazy. Others just scary-crazy. A very small number of us manage lovable-yet-scary crazy.

And, FWIW, bookies are placing the odds for the gamblers among us at 4:1 Obama winning. Not a sure thing, of course, but for people putting money where their mouth is, Romney isn't considered the safe bet.

Obama's odds keep getting slooooowly better day by day. I'm not confident at all, but I'm not sick with worry either.

Also, I'm the safest kind of crazy*: I may talk to myself and I might end up with 8741047324 cats one day, but so long as you leave me alone, I'll leave you alone!

* Unless you're a cat.

It's so scary that the right thinks they're the correct ones, they're the moral ones, they're the ones who will make the country better. They have no idea how backwards and insane they look to the rest of the country and world.

I get the feeling that they're actually well aware of how backwards and insane they look to the rest of the world. The thing is, they just don't care. They have no time for the rest of the world, only contempt, because they believe that they've got the moral high ground, they're the good guys, and they're doing the right thing for everyone.

That fits with what we hear from them about America's status (that we're the BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD EVER, and how the world will go back to looking up to us, we'll be the WORLD LEADER, the most powerful blah blah blah). It's just so embarrassing.

I attribute it to a form of the Dunning-Kruger effect. The less intelligence person has (to a point), the more they think they know. The more intelligent the person, the less they think they know. Some politicians fall into this...I'm afraid the others are just manipulating the people who do.

When thinking about voting, I always think "Which candidate reminds me most of the Patrician of Ankh-Morpork?"...In this election, I think Lord Vetinari would kill them both so they don't poison his city with incompetence.

I feel exactly the same as you. I already sent in my absentee ballot to vote for Obama, but Massachusetts always goes Democratic anyway. ;_; I'm crossing my fingers...I'm really scared, because it seems so close.

Same thing. I voted, but I'm California, so we're always Democrats anyway. Fingers crossed, too! So worried. Hopefully in just over 24 hours we'll know!

He's such a jerk. I'm speaking apart from his policies and the lying ads and anything he's done before, he is just a mean-spirited, pushy, bossy person. This video isn't taken out of context, it's not a quick and easy soundbite to enrage the liberal public. It's a full five minute clip of him being a genuine arse to that radio show host.

If he was running Democrat, I don't think I would vote for him, regardless of his policies. The fact that he doesn't have a vested interest in the women or gay people in our country just makes the decision easier.

You know, I'd have to do the same. I'd have to vote Republican for the first time since I was old enough to really understand how things work. (In the first presidential election I voted in, I went Republican because I liked the guy's name or how he looked or something stupid like that.) I think he's just a bad person, period.

Hopefully today will be the last day we hear anything about him. Hopefully he'll lose, then he'll wander off to abuse his own personal staff, animals, and anyone with less power than him.
